Delightful winter Japanese Izakaya pop up for our honeymoon weekend highlight dinner! Service was superb and each dish had a lovely flavor profile. Loved the shiitake mushroom crab appetizer bombs and scallop nigiri small plate with cranberry topping. Leave the chicken bap buns or ask for more BBQ sauce on the side - the buns were too dense for the spices to come through. Definitely check out the wine shop curated by the chef and restaurant sommelier! One of the cocktails was not to our taste, and the server immediately struck it from our bill and brought a delicious replacement! More...

My husband and I went for a date night last night and it was far and away the best meal we have had on the Cape. I was very familiar with the Red Pheasant so when my husband recommended "The Pheasant" I was intrigued by the new name and "pop-up menu". We arrived to the cozy 18th-century house and were seated near the inviting wood-burning fire. Our server, Katie, was attentive and knowledgeable and made great recommendations on the cocktails and menu, but when we asked her about the wine, she humbly deferred to the level 3 sommelier and co-owner, Alex. That's when we noticed the wine shop in the restaurant. WHAT!?!? Amazing. We hopped up from our table and selected a bottle of wine to enjoy with our dinner and one to take home. The bottles of wine were unique, complimented the food, and didn't come with the normal mark-up of ordering a bottle at a restaurant. We ordered the ramen, temaki handroll, chicken bao buns, fish katzu, and tuna nigiri. It was all delicious. We also ordered the yuzu highball and pandan negroni; they are two of the best cocktails we have had in a while. Overall, the experience here was great. They are opened until Valentine's Day and then will reopen in June. We cannot wait to return. More...

I'm coming back in for a new review after leaving a bad review a few years ago. Perhaps this Japanese pop up is what The Pheasant needed. It's still the same inside, but the food is Japanese tapas. Something the Cape is in desperate need of - quality tapas and great Japanese food. The menu isn't sushi, mind you. It's a small selection of tapas, small plates and a few large plates. We shared a few of the small plates and moved on to sharing the large plates as well. All of which were delicious. I think the only one I wouldn't recommend was the yellowtail tuna large plate. It was just a bit bland and hard to manage with the tail and bones. Still tasty, just not my first choice over the fried chicken special and definitely the wagyu steak. I could have blown through each of the tapas and small plates as well. The cocktails are really good. They have a great selection of craft cocktails (see photo), beer, wine by the glass, and sake. Our server was wonderful as well. Definitely ask questions when in doubt. Here's my only "buts." The place is freezing early on. That brought back memories of the old Pheasant. The restrooms were like a freezer too. It takes a while for the place to warm up, so dress appropriately. The wine situation was weird too. They have a short wine list, but then they encourage you to go back to this weird area where there is an extended wine selection. You can buy a bottle there and for a $10 corking fee. Finally, the stupid Toast thing. You just sign the bill and have no idea what you just signed and don't get a receipt. I despise ToastI definitely recommend hitting The Pheasant before the Japanese pop up goes away in February. More...

My wife and I started going to the Pheasant just after they opened. It's one of our favorite--if not our all-time favorite -places on Cape Cod. We were very unhappy when Covid made it too uneasy for us to dine out. Last night, we had our first meal in a long time. And last night's meal--as all many meals we have had there--was fantastic and surprising, in the best ways possible. The cooking/preparation  is always inventive, fresh, and unexpected--and excellent. Last night and for the next few weeks, the menu/restaurant has become a Japanese pop-up. We can't rave enough about the food; the chef is an expert, obviously, when it comes to Japanese cuisine. We are impressed always how the owners--Erica and Adam--are trying (and succeeding) new things. The menu never stays the same. It's not the kind of restaurant that you go to because you know just what you want; it's not like many other tired places or a diner, where there is no invention or experimentation. Those other places might be comforting sometime, but not if you want fantastic, inspiring and delicious food. The owners and the bar tender and wait staff are friendly, helpful and happy to answer questions. This is not a snooty place; it's festive and inviting. We have begun calling it the VERY PLEASANT PHEASANT!Treat yourself to a wonderful dining experience!! Five stars just aren't enough! More...

Always a great meal at The Pheasant. It's a new, updated version of the old and tired Red Pheasant.  The food is always prepared to perfection and the hostess is always accommodating even during the busy season.  The brick chicken is to exceptional and a family favorite.Keep up the great food and friendly service!!!!! We went to The Pheasant at least once a week over the summer as it was our favorite outdoor restaurant. All through the summer they were very accommodating for dairy and gluten allergies as well as for my mother who is vegetarian. We were so excited to try their new Japanese pop up and see their indoor spot. It is still our favorite place!!! It is incredibly cozy with a wood burning fireplace at the bar and a wood burning stove in the main area. The owners are the nicest people and they are still VERY accommodating to my dairy and gluten allergy, and the drinks are delicious. It will always be our favorite place to go for date night, as well as a place to bring our friends & family. If you have not been yet you are missing out! More...

We loved the Pheasant! They're still doing outdoor only but they've mostly figured it out. I have some critiques but only for the owners to make adjustments to. The ambiance was lovely. It is still all outdoors, but they have 3 separate outdoor sections to choose from. There is a fire in one of the areas. They have string lights up too. When you get there, you have to wait in line to order, pay, then sit and wait for your food. The food and drinks are all served in to go containers. I'm not sure if this is how it is supposed to work or if our waiter was just nice, but we asked him for another round and he was able to just add it on to the purchase. We didn't have to give back our card or anything. Otherwise, we would have had to wait on line. If this is how it is supposed to work, I think there should be a sign, or the waiter should tell you. If we didn't think to simply ask, we would've had yo stand on line for another round. Cocktails- painkiller, best painkiller on the cape.-raspberry vodka lemonade wasn't too sweet nor too raspberryy. A perfect blend. - spicy Margarita was delicious! The food was remarkable. - Oysters from crows pasture were perfection. Well balanced brine. - The local scallop ceviche was exquisite.- CRISPY LOBSTER ONIGIRI is a must! They were crisp, and mouth watering. There are two to an order, and each person will want two. The flavor was out of this world. - Mediterranean mezze was nice. The Eggplant Muhamarrah was my favorite part, but overall, the plate was classic. - Dan Dan duck, is my friends favorite part of this menu. He says it's consistently delicious. The duck is  perfectly done, and he literally dreams about it. - lemon olive oil cod, boring and don't actually recommend. Least favorite item we ordered. Just bland. - too full for dessert with 4 of us and that order. I'm not sure why food still needs to go in to go containers. I think it does lower the experience a bit but not enough to give it 4 stars. It feels like a waste of paper goods/compostable goods. I'm sure something somewhere said it was a COVID precaution, but that logic doesn't even make since anymore. We thought maybe it was due to being short staffed on the dishwashing end? Maybe if this is the case and you're going to continue to operate like this, you should offer a free round of drinks, or discounted something. We've ate here when it isn't COVID so we know what it's like before. I do urge the owners to kindly reassess. We will be back! Thank you!! More...

We went to the Pheasant twice in late August. We ordered from the take-out window and sat at one of their many picnic tables. The food was consistently excellent. (Highly recommend the pork tacos, fish tacos, hummus, and farmer's salad.) And the kids loved the S'mores Kit, roasting the marshmallows over the fire pit. Elegant food served in an informal atmosphere. Service was friendly and really welcoming. More...

I've been visiting the Cape from middle school to present. I now have 23 & 20 year old sons. I remember the original Red Pheasant with nostalgia but I hadn't been in years. This year we heard of new owners, a new twist, and were intrigued. We went on a beautiful evening, sat on the patio and enjoyed great drinks (the painkiller was a huge hit) and hummus & pita (YUM), Dan Dan Duck, Moroccan Tacos, Farm Salad, Empanadas, tabouli, and Crispy Lobster Onigiri. All were exceptional, creative, and something we'd come back for in a heartbeat (sadly no open reservations for the rest of our vacation). We love the new Pheasant, will come back asap, and would recommend to others. More...

A lovely time. I brought my wife and my son's family here for dinner during a day trip to the cape. Seating is outdoor and you can order at the counter or via online. Their chef has created an eclectic  grouping of dishes, all of which were delicious. We started with a dozen oysters, freshly brought up from a couple of miles up the road. As good as oysters get. Perfect size, sweet and briny. Our entrees ranged from fish tacos to  sea bass to duck. Smiles from everyone at the first bite. Their small wine list was interesting. It simply listed "pinot noir", no information beyond that. When I enquired I found out that it was the particular choice of the chef and came from a small CA winery run by  a friend of his friend. I hadn't ever heard of it, ordered it, and it was spot on. Perfect with the food. We added a decadent dessert waffle for the table to split. Perfect amount of dolci to cap off the meal. Oh, and they sealed the remaining wine in a plastic container so it was nice and legal for transport back home. Definitely a standout. More...

The Pheasant is our favorite restaurant on the Cape. The team at the Pheasant nails it every time. The food is phenomenal, without a shred of pretense. The Dan Dan duck is a current family favorite, as are the ceviche and Moroccan lamb tacos (they had me at crispy halloumi). Last time I deviated and tried the curry lobster onigiri- holy #%^*, it's that good. Everything we've tasted here has been extremely well executed, fresh and perfectly cooked. Combined with their wine and cocktail program and the fact that it's family owned by a young couple, I just don't think it gets better than that. You won't find your traditional fish & chips here, and that's a great thing. More...

We were unable to order ahead for takeout and so glad that happened. We sat outside at a picnic table with umbrella, with pretty lights and a propane heater. Our dog got to sit with us. The food was out of this world. Full of flavor. Just right spice. Beautiful presentation. Staff was friendly. Very low key, mellow atmosphere. Just what we needed tonight celebrating 10 years married. Thank you! More...
