One of my favorite restaurants in the area. I definite recommend this old rams wish I could open one back home. The meat is very yummy and juicy. Tastes like your eating a steak in burger form. The cheddar cheese is shredded. The burgers here are good cause they have great meat which is key. They don't have any special sauces. They provide ketchup, mustard and mayo. As you wait they also give you shelled peanuts. Staff is also nice. If you're looking for a solid and unwavering burger joint. This is the place. It is always good, and my service this past time was very pleasant. Ground Pat'i is the first place I ever had a "gourmet burger."  It was in the early 1970s, and here comes this dark woody place with an amazing audio system behind glass (Ampex reel-to-reel, Macintosh receiver, etc) and burgers that were an inch thick.  Before that, the only place to get such a burger was in the backyard of the neighbor who always grilled fresh when most suburbanites were buying frozen packs of thin patties from Schwegmann's.  These fat burgers are now commonplace at chains at every exit across the country, but I credit Ground Pat'i with bringing the concept to New Orleans.The audio stack is gone (though the glass case remains), and the menu has expanded to include trendy and apparently necessary variations on The Burger.  Even so, you can still get the famous original that looks, feels, and tastes much like it did as a novelty 40 years ago. We were staying at the Courtyard Marriott and Ground Pati Grill & Bar was just up the street. We chose to go there for dinner on our first night in New Orleans. Some of you might be thinking, "Why on earth would you go there, when there's other places to eat on Bourbon, Magazine Street, etc. "Well, I'm old and I don't drink that much, and we had our 16 year old son with us, so it worked out fine that we chose to go to Ground Pati.We were greeted, brought to our booth, and our drink order was taken. When the  waitress returned with our drinks, she also brought us a basket of peanuts to eat while we waited for our food. Those peanuts were GOOD!My husband and son each ordered the Rib Eye platter and I ordered the Pork Chop platter.  When we got our food, my husband and son were kind of bummed that their Rib Eye was flavored on the sweet side - like BBQ ribs sweet. However, they still ate and enjoyed their Rib Eyes.Now, my Pork Chops was DELICIOUS! Side note: I really, REALLY love pork chops. I'll often order the Pork Chops if I see it on the menu. Anyhow, my Pork Chop was grilled perfectly! It was nice, hot, and juicy! The sides were just as delicious. My sides were mashed potatoes, pork and beans, cole slaw, and Texas toast. Dang! I talk about Westbank institutions a lot around this website, but this one truly reaches back to when my parents were dating. I have grown up in this place. My dad and mom used to go on dates in the 70's here and I always hear the same damn story about how my dad got mad because my mom gave another man a tomato that belonged to him... HAHA. I have grown from the pure iron cups that would keep your barqs rootbeer cold till the end of time to the plastic knock offs that have now. So, how about the food?First things first, you will have peanuts to eat while you wait for your food. Which instantly makes a restaurant A OK in my book! Second of all, I always order (and I mean since I was 11 here now), the fried chicken breast fillet sandwich with enough cheddar cheese to drown in. Add some mayo and put some salt on your fries and you have the standard Grand Pati meal for me. I am happy that this place is still rocking and keeping pace. Bee Gees are "Jive Talkin'" over the sound system along with favorites like "Baby Come Back", "You're as cold as ice", "I'll take you there", Drownin' in my Tears," Doobie Brothers, KC and the Sunshine Band, and now it's the Bay City Rollers! This is still a good place to get a decent burger.   The Cajun Burger is really tasty.  We enjoy the chili drenched El Patio burger.  You can't go wrong with the standard Ground Patti with cheese.Atmosphere is just so-so, as the building is decades old and hasn't seen too many updates.Serves is normally fair to good.  Prices are reasonable.They still serve those peanuts at every table, but the pewter mugs are gone. I've been eating here for 3 decades! Absolutely perfect cheeseburgers! Impeccable service. The waitress always remembers us. Burgers are served fast and cooked to perfect temperature. Nice location. Exactly the same since the early 1980's, which, in this case, is GREAT! Jeans, T shirts, tennis shoes, scrubs, overalls, work boots... This is the place. Laid back, good way to end the work week. I'm only docking one star because it was over $30 for two bacon cheeseburgers with absolutely no drinks or anything else. Price aside, the food was great, especially the steamed vegetables . Ate during lunch. Ordered the Ground Pat'i with cheddar on top. The service was good, the waiter was friendly and prompt. Our order was accurate and it did not take forever to get there . My burger came out really good and just the way I ordered it. One little thing about the burger though was that the cheese is shredded and not sliced so be prepared to possibly have pieces of cheese come out when you bite into it and this is a separate charge as well. I was hoping the cheese would be a little melted so they put it on as the last step before serving it to you. The establishment is actually quite small from what you think it would be, it is very clean though and it's very quiet and does not have obnoxious loud music playing while you eat for once. It is a bit expensive even for a lunch meal, the price is a bit higher than normal but if you have a few extra dollars to spend, I recommend this place. More...

We ate there for the first time. The food is good and generally less expensive than similar resturants on Kaliste Saloom and Amb. Cafferty in Lafayette. I had fried shrimp that was pretty good. The baked potate was also good. I at my wife's Key West Salad the next day (she did not have a strong appetite). This is one of the best burger places around, without a doubt. Don't let the exterior fool you. It looks like a dive but I promise the burgers are great. They will actually listen when you tell them how you want your burger cooked, too! I absolutely love the Ground Pati, and if you go I know to you will too. Our experience was an awesome one. Our server, Victoria, was very attentive and friendly. Our burger was cooked to perfection and our baked potatoes were nicely loaded with toppings. We arrived early for lunch and watched as the place quickly filled. We never had to ask for a drink refill or a check or anything other than a little extra butter.
