What a relaxed and inspiring view and location - right on the beach. While the evening menu seems pricey, the lunch menu is perfect. The price, selections, and service make this the place to go right in the middle of a fun in the sun day. Walking right up from the beach or from the packing lot gains you easy access to multiple dining environments. All with a great view of beach. They had advertising on facebook for the month of October regarding their endless shrimp month and since we discovered that there were no trick or treaters coming we decided to catch the last day of shrimpfest. We had never been here but had heard some good things about it from a neighbor and decided this was the time to try them out. I do love some fresh Gulf shrimp and they were known to serve them and with endless shrimp it sounded like an offer I needed to try. They do have Alaskan king crab, snow, bairdi & Dungeness crap which all sounds terrific but I'm here for the shrimpies! (I'm posting pocs of all 5 or 6 pages of the menu for convenience)First of all they're located a short distance east of the Florida line just a hop skip & jump from the deservedly famous Flora-bama. It's right on beach highway with ample parking and is easily recognized with the big red crab trap sign on the front of the building. We arrived an hour plus before dinner tone so there was not a line or crowd just yet. [side note] This is off season, as it's referred to, so the crowds have lessened quit a bit. However we have discovered that between 3-4pm regardless of the time of year are really terrific, especially in the beachfront restaurants, to get a pretty decent seat and normally without a wait. [end side note]We were pleasantly greeted at the door and seated and immediately again greeted by our server with a smile. Our server for the evening Ashton was very pleasant and professional young man who made us feel welcome and took great care of us and made some terrific recommendations. We chose a seat inside the very clean, bright and beachy inside (the weather was kinda iffy) right by the very nice looking beachside spacious patio. He took our drink orders and ask us if we'd been there before and then told us about the specials. After delivering our drinks I asked him some more questions about the October shrimpfest specialis & the deal on the endless shrimp and we both chose that. But first I ordered their spicy crab dip that sounded great for an appetizer, and while the dip was pretty good the pit points were not what I've been accustomed to on the area. What a number of restaurants, especially the ones close to the beaches, are serving are buttered and slightly browned pita points that come out warm, or hot, and have a crispy seasoned flavor. These were just plain cold soft pieces of pita, kinda like out of the bag. Nothing more on that but back to order .... For $18.99 you get a choice of fried shrimp, shrimp scampi and shrimp alfredo (any combination of the three, all three and as much as you like) as well as new potatoes, hushpuppies and corn on the cob, which is also offered as much as you like of as well. I started with the fried shrimp, my sweetheart got the scampi and we shared and reordered. Big fan for sea salt & cracked pepper on the table, kudos and the tartar & cocktail sauces were both spot on which is also a good thing for me. Okay without all the details the neew potatoes were good, corn on the cob was big full ears and not bad, the hushpuppies were very good and as for the shrimp the fried shrimp was a medium shrimp with a good fresh taste, decent breading and cook and the shrimp scampi was okay but lacked a bit of seasoning for my taste. In fact they were floating in a pretty bland sauce. I kinda over did it with two orders of fried shrimp & huspuppies so I expressed my reluctance to order the alfredo to Ashton he told me no problem order it and take home what you have left. So I stopped short of eating much of my second order of fried shrimp and summoned the alfredo. It was not bad at all but sadly missing some KEY requirements, for my taste, in this kind of dish and that's garlic and an accompanying fresh addition or basil, rosemary or spice that brings the dish to life. Here's the big let down, I didn't see shrmp alfredo on their regular menu, only on the special shrimpfest insert, but they did have a shrimp & crab linguine with garlic and a fresh basil cream sauce, so I got my hopes up on this alfredo that didn't materialize. Not everyone is a fussy cook, like myself, nor as particular about the spices so I'm sure that some folks would be very happy as served but I was a bit disappointed. Everything came out fresh, hot and quickly from the kitchen so no complaints there at all & it turned out that I brought home, between the two of us, enough shrimp, potatoes and hushpuppies for a very nice lunch so that's always a plus. Bottom line: This is a 3.5 star review based on one visit and without hitting their namesake "crabs" so based on the excellent service, fast & efficient kitchen and the overall beachy cool vibe I'm giving the 4 star and will revisit them again for a night of crab decadence. Right on the water, next to the Pier, this was a great setting! We had a mix of appetizers including pita chips with cream cheese crab dip, an amazing crab cake stacked on a fried tomato and surrounded with corn relish for for a unique dish and yummy, spicy gumbo. This restaurant was in a row of 3 other restaurants/bars all under so ownership and each will great atmosphere and decor. We always make a stop at The Crab Trap in Destin whenever we are in town. The views of the beach and the breezes in the evening as the sunsets always makes for a memorable meal -- and the best crab cakes in town make it unforgettable! Our server Tom was exceptional and went above and beyond for us. My toddler dropped a glass plate and it broke, but before I could call for assistance Tom was already there sweeping it up! Our food was delicious and so worth the wait it took to get seated. Pull up to the bar and order a couple drinks, walk around the outer deck and enjoy the breezes while you wait to get seated.
