My son always wants me to take him here when we are in Meriden. I don't blame him. I never had a steamed burger before and it didn't disappoint. The meat was very fresh and very good. They put a ton of thick cheddar cheese on the burger and the ingredients are very fresh. It is a visual dive from outside and inside, but enjoyed it every time I am in town. The people working there are very nice and the speed of service excellent. My son and I also had the cheese fries, again with a thick helping of cheddar cheese, and they were very good as well. Food was great. I felt bad for the staff because it was just two of them for a full busy place but definitely handled calm, courteously and professionally. I had a delicious and filling burger. Took a little long to get stuff like our ranch sauce for our onion rings, the check, and to be cashed out but it's more due to the short handedness and could not be helped. Heard about the Middletown/Meriden areas steamed cheeseburgs for years and always wanted to try one, well today I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop at Ted's, because from what I heard they're the original and the best. I've had to drive past Ted's a couple of hundred of times over the years... When I finally decided to stop by I was actually blown away, the food was amazing! The steamed burgers were divine, the cheese was a melting blob of stretchy goodness, and then the most playful little habanero pepper, not too spicy... Holy hats!! Ted’s steamed cheeseburgers are some of the best cheeseburgers we’ve ever had, easily top 3!!! The setting is a classic Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives venue, and the food is up to DDD standard for sure. The burgers are unique in shape, taste, and the cheese is phenomenal!!! Cheeseburgers with bacon are awesome!! Love the juiciness of the burgers. The California burger my daughter had was delicious and she even finished the whole thing, which never happens. Not a fan of the home fries a little soggy for my liking, but with cheese on them it makes it more tolerable. Totally recommend for a quick bite or to sit and eat in. Close and quint is their little shop in Meriden but if you are one or two people it's not to bad. Wouldn't recommend indoor seating for more than two people. I usually do take out. More...

We went out of curiosity but still enjoyed a tasty burger which, for the cost was excellent. The steam produces a sad looking gray patty, but it works wonders on the cheese. I LOVE Ted's steamed cheeseburgers but man do I miss the Cromwell location - it was so spacious and I went all the time. The reason I don't go to the Meriden location all that often is because there is very little seating and is crowded... it triggers my claustrophobia lol.
