While Sugar Bakers has good products, the customer service is not great. I just placed an online order, before the store even opened, then had to call and cancel, right when the store opened. The lady on the phone would not allow me to cancel the order. Even though the order is for 6 days from today, and I ordered before the store opened, and they could not have processed the order or made the pie at this point. She was very dismissive. I have ordered from Sugar Bakers for years. They did wedding cakes, birthday and cupcakes for both my business and personally.
Recently my daughter was turning one so I told my wife to contact Sugar Bakers and have them make two cakes for the party. She contacted Sugar Bakers and designed two cakes. One for my daughter to smash and the other to serve. My wife was very specific about what she wanted due to an allergy of my daughters.
The Thursday before the party, my wife sent me to pick up the cake and bring it to the beach for my daughter's birthday party on Saturday. My wife asked me to send her a pic of the cake, which I did. This is when I became aware of the problem. The cake was supposed to be chocolate and it was not. My wife called Sugar Bakers who said they could not help us and could not make a new cake on short notice. My wife was disappointed and would like to speak to a manager. No manager was available and they would have someone contact us immediately. Nobody called us back all day. The next day no one from Sugar Bakers called either. My wife called again and was told a manager lived in Delaware and would get back to us again. Again we never heard back from them. My wife followed up yet again and was once again given the same runaround. To this date we neve heard back from anyone at Sugar Bakers.
My daughter's birthday was amazing despite the disappointment of having the wrong cake. The smash cake which was also wrong was fine as far as smash cakes go....The cake we served was overly sweet and the bottom layer was stale. Needless to say the cake was barely eaten and deposited into the trash after the party.
In the end we would have been better off making our own cake or going to Harris Teeter. Mistakes happen but ignoring the problem does not make things better. Between the horrific customer service and the poorly made product we would not recommend Sugar Bakers.

Sugarbakers was amazing! I was especially happy with how accomodating they were to my gluten allergy. Even in the tasting - they gave my husband normal cake and gave me gluten free samples to try! The cake was amazing and they made really great suggestions that helped our dessert table look great - we ended up doing a smaller cake and more side desserts - mouse cups and cannolis, etc. Delivered on time and no issues. Absolutely loved working with Sugar Bakers for my wedding cake. It turned out so beautifully, and the Raspberry Amaretto was to die for. I saved some $$ and got a smaller 3 tiered cake and an additional sheet cake of a second flavor, Smith Island Cake's Peanut Butter Fudge Cups Cake. Not only do I love their cakes as is, but they my wedding cake was one the guests are still talking about. Each layer was a different flavor and was delivered to southern Maryland without a single flaw! The tasting appointment was amazing, and the consultant answered all of our questions. They were ready to see my vision for the cake and run with it. I gave them a picture of what I wanted, and it was exactly down to the detail what we wanted and expected. Sugar Bakers made our wedding cake and grooms cake for our wedding on 9/7/19 in Harford County. I am so pleased with them and we had no cake left over because people went for seconds and thirds! ! I thought we would have to spend an arm and a leg, but Sugar Bakers is so resonably priced! They told us not to freeze our top tier because they will provide us with a top tier at our 1 year anniversary for free! All cake toppers were from Etsy, but I told Sugar Bakers my vision and my husbands and they did not disappoint! Everyone at the shop was extremely helpful and the cake tasting was wonderful! This is a go to when you have a cake craving--you know who you are. My favorite is their amaretto cake with raspberry filling and thick buttercream icing. I think their icing to cake ratio is a bit lopsided on the side of icing--but I like icing, so that's not a complaint. Their apple walnut coffee cake is a star!! Moist, with a perfect amount of fresh apples. I think their pies are good, but the last time we bought an apple pie, the crust was too thick. I think Wegman's Bakery makes a better pie. If you like cake-- and I mean good cake-- you must go to SugarBakers. They have a decent selection of pastries to-go such as pound cake, cookies, tarts, cake slices and pies; however, they do really nice cakes for events and celebrations. On this particular visit, I went for a slice of Smith Island, Amaretto Raspberry and a Strawberry Mousse Tart. Both cakes were moist, not too dense and the frosting:cake ratio was awesome! I also love the frosting on the Amaretto Raspberry-- not like your typical buttercream but much smoother. The strawberry mousse tart was not my fave as the crust was way too hard to cut through. I used Sugar Baker's recently for my wedding. My husband and I were very pleased with their service and professionalism. When we couldn't decide on cake flavors we were able to customize our cake to the way we wanted. SugarBakers did a fantastic job with our cake for 200 people. The icing detail was simple yet elegant, which is exactly what I wanted, and the cake was light and packed with flavor! We chose SugarBakers for our wedding cake and we are so happy we did! Our cake consisted of the strawberry mousse and the chocolate toffee mousse topped with the German butter cream icing! We fed each other our first bites and we both looked at each other and immediately said "This cake is really good"! We even had a few of our guests rave about our wedding cake, some managed to even snag a second piece!I wish we were that lucky! Unfortunately, we only managed to have the one bite of our cake after cutting it. The atmosphere: It was a nice quaint little bakery. They have a little seating area with a nice view of the neighborhood if you want to enjoy your item there. They have beautiful cake displays and a sufficient array of delectable baled goods. It has a personal small town, down home feel much like the neighborhood. I love SugarBakers!!! I ordered unicorn cupcakes and dragons. After more people Rsvp'd late, I added a cake to match. Upon my arrival, the colors on some of the cupcakes were not what I thought they would be but the decorators and ladies behind the counter made it right. The German icing was well...the icing on the cake! (Pun intended) I want to throw another event just to have their cake. Delicious!!!
