We take my kid to get his haircut here. The staff is very friendly and patient with a squirming kid. Soleil has two special cars for kid to sit in while they have their hair cut- this eases my kid's anxiety. I can't say enough about the staff's professionalism. I love going to Soleil 21. I only get my haircut here in the city. Doan does a wonderful job. I have long curly hair that needs a specific cut and attention to detail. I have had the hardest time finding someone who can cut my 2.5-year-old son's hair.  After getting a number of mediocre-to-bad haircuts around the Hill, we recently had an appointment with Ziba.  She did a wonderful job cutting it.  It's easily the best haircut he's had (and his hair grows fast, so we've had a lot of them).  The salon also has car- and firetruck-shaped seats just for kids.  We will definitely be back. I got a long hair haircut from Ziba a few months ago that was AWESOME! I made an appointment with a different stylist online for the next day, which was a Sunday (super convenient! ), but when I arrived she was running late with another client. Ziba has available to cut and blowout my hair and it couldn't have turned out better! It did take awhile - probably longer than necessary at an hour+, but still worth it. More...

Looks like this place is hit or miss for many and your experience may vary greatly depending on who you work with. All that aside, I had a wonderful experience with my nail technician, Tina. I had a gel french manicure, and regular pedicure. She was meticulous, gave me a lovely foot/leg massage in addition to a scrub, and it was all in all an extremely pleasant, relaxing experience. They fit me in for a very last minute appointment, as I am in town from Boston for my cousin's wedding, which I greatly appreciated. During my visit, I was also able to chat briefly with the owner who was a total sweetheart. The woman who did my nails spoke very limited english, which made communicating very difficult, but that was the only thing detracting from my overall experience. I cannot give higher praise for my experience at Soleil 21 Salon Spa. I came in for a color correction treatment going from mostly brown hair to a blonde balayage. In the past, my attempts to go blonde at other salons in the area have resulted in brassy, orangey tones. Jennae eliminated the brass and helped me to lighten my hair dramatically. I gave her a picture and she delivered it to a T. Definitely found my new stylist and will be returning to Soleil 21 Salon Spa and Jennae is unquestionably my new stylist. I went to Soleil 21 on Fri 10/19 for the first time and I'll be going back! I wanted a gel manicure (my 1st one) and decided to try this place due to all the good reviews on Yelp. When I walked in, I was a little nervous but was quickly greeted & taken to the back of the salon (where they do nails). My tech, Sally, was very pleasant & offered me wine but I declined. Sally suggested a really nice fall shade for my nails and did my nails & eyebrows in about 45 min. I was very pleased. I can tell that the techs can get chatty but as another reviewer said, I'm sure they'll respect your wishes if you ask them for a little quiet. I liked the ambiance & cleanliness of the salon and will definitely go back. Only odd thing I noticed is that instead of me giving my tech a tip directly, I was asked to put it in a small envelope and leave it at the front desk. Next time, I'll give it to her directly. Called last minute on Saturday for an eye brow wax appointment and they were able to fit me in no problem. Kim did the waxing and I was very happy with the outcome. The service didn't take long but she still did a thorough job with sculpting both the top and bottom of my brows and followed up with tweeting at the end. Men's haircut review only. I am very satisfied! I had my hair cut by Doan (pronounced Dawn). I am really picky about my haircuts and have been disappointed many times at other places, but Doan did a great job, and I left very happy. The price was very fair ($35). Soleil 21 is a salon and nail spa combo, but as a guy I didn't think the place was "too girly" and I was comfortable there. Very clean as well! My only suggestion would be to give the very sweet shampoo girl some extra training because the water was freezing and she didn't really lather my hair at all, but a totally minor issue. I've been here three times in a month and a half. Once for an eyebrow wax, a hair cut and now highlights. Mona has been my stylist each time. I was drawn to her after the brow service because she didn't talk my ear off but asked the right questions to make sure I got what I wanted. My haircut experience was fantastic. She gave me a very styled blowdry that lasted for two days which was amazing. I've bought several products here-both morrocan oil and some others here. Doan is the only person I'll let touch my hair these days. My hair is thick, coarse, and hard to work with -- Doan has transformed it! I always leave happy, with healthy-looking, sleek, perfectly-styled hair (though TBH this could be in part the result of my waiting too long between haircuts).In all seriousness, I've been seeing Doan for over 2 years and don't see myself leaving anytime soon. No matter how long I wait to come back for a trim, she always remembers me and asks me questions about my life, work, and family. She encourages me to try new styles when I'm itching for a change, and "roots" for me to keep trying when I'm sick of the grow-out process and just want to chop it off again. I have very difficult hair - long, thick, coarse.  It has always given me trouble and I have rarely found anyone who can cut it well.  Doan gets it!   My hair looks gorgeous when I leave there -- to the point where people stop me on the street to ask about it.  And better yet, it looks great and holds its shape for at least 8 weeks, although I always wait too long between cuts.  Here's the best part about the whole experience though:  She is always friendly and she always remembers your name.  I skipped 5 months one time and when I walked through the door with no appointment, she greeted me by name and asked how I'd been.  None of the snooty crap that you get at some of the other places.  I feel at home here and she's really good!  Another good feature is that it's directly across from the Marine Barracks, so if you're driving after work, there's usually a lot of empty parking spots (because there are no stores on the opposite side of the street, so it's not as busy) or it's just a block from a public parking lot.  Very convenient!!And I love that if you get a few services together (like a cut and a pedi), you get a discount.Very reasonable prices. Andre is the first European male nail tech I've ever seen among 5 states of receiving pedicures. Even though he was working on my sister-in-law's feet and not mine, he was so incredibly friendly and conversational that we both enjoyed the pedicure experience even more just because of him! We both highly recommend him!

I just had my first visit here and it was great!! I followed my esthetician, Andre' (formerly w/ Ava Salon and Spa) here. As usual, he gave me a spectacular bikini/Brazilian and underarm wax . He really has a magic touch and for 6 yrs I've only trusted him to wax my most sensitive areas.  I was so impressed with the staff here that I got a manicure too. I wish I had looked at the yelp reviews before embarking on getting a manicure today!  Per my earlier review - I went to A-List, next door to Soleil, and had a less than satisfactory experience.  As I was huffing and puffing about not having gotten the manicure I needed, I noticed a salon right next door - Soleil.  Went in, spoke to the manager, he got me seated almost immediately with Kim, who gave me a manicure the way a manicure should be given.  Super friendly, professional, and did a great job.  It's unfortunate that it took a bad experience today to accidentally come across this place, but glad I did - I'll definitely be going back. Just had one of the best mani/pedis I've ever had.  Nina is a goddess.  I've been coming here since this place opened and it's always been clean, friendly and relaxing.  The space is nice and not crazy hot like other salons around here.  They greet you at the front desk and not everyone stares at you when you walk in.  Prices are decent, they offer discounts often and they have online scheduling.  Really couldn't ask for more. I accidentally booked a waxing appointment here thinking it was a different place, but I'm glad it happened! I went for a bikini wax and the girl who did it was amazing. I've never been one to get stay terribly loyal to a stylist. Men's haircuts seem more a commodity than a service. It's now been 4 years that I've been coming to Doan to cut my hair. I followed her move from Bubbles to her own spa, Soleil21, and absolutely love the attention to detail and overall warmth of the salon. I had a great experience at Soleil 21 today.  I was a walk-in.  Even though I was able to get a slot as a walk-in right then and there, the salon was still busy, with people in the back getting other spa services, and the salon part of the shop was still busy. I had grown my hair out long in order to donate, and the salon put me in Von's capable hands.  I told him that I was making a donation of my hair, and that I wanted to do a short cut while still making my husband happy and not going too short.  He gave me a cute bob with a sharp line from front to back, and he preserved a great deal of length for the hair I wanted to donate.  He was also so fun to talk with, and it was clear from the way he was handling my hair and talking at the same time that he was comfortable doing something different and edgy comfortably.The only reason why I didn't give it the full 5 stars is that it would've been even better if the price - $55 for my long hair - were lower.  I'm probably being unrealistic about price, since I'm cheap, but I know one can easily drop $100 for a half-inch trim, but I'm spoiled from getting rock-star haircuts in New York for only $35.I didn't get any of the free eats or drinks, but that's okay.  I loved the look and feel of the salon, the festive, bright atmosphere, and the energetic vibe of the stylists.As a mom, I'm also excited about the kid-friendly setup they have for kids cuts.  They've got two race car seats for kids, and they'll be my first stop when next I have to get cuts for my 2 1/2 year-old and my 11-month-old. Am a first time visitor of Soleil 21 Salon Spa. Vonza, my stylist, is a talented artist when it comes to highlights. I have had numerous bad experiences with highlights at salons- either too stripy, not the color I was going for, or completely unnatural looking. Vonza took the time to hear what I was looking for, and blended low lights and highlights to make for a very natural summer kissed look. I have long locks, and where most stylists would go to town chopping, Vonza cleaned up the ends ensuring that the length remained, and shaped the front to frame my face. I still have the sexy length but am no longer drowning in hair. Vonza is the kind of stylist who listens and who proposes things you might not think of but which entirely suits you- it's the perfect combo for a hair stylist if you ask me. Moreover, he asks you before doing anything to make sure you're on board. He used very minimal product (so I know it'll still look great when I style it myself) and he ensured that my hair was conditioned thoroughly post washing out the dye- the hair is silky smooth and healthy looking (none of that dried frizz you get with a bad hair dye). Basically, I can't say enough good things about this stylist- he's phenomenal, and I'll definitely be spreading the word and coming back! More...

Doan gives great haircuts for males and I have been happy with her services for a year now. In NY where I am from there are a lot of great stylists to choose from so it made it a bit difficult to find someone in DC who can handle themselves well with a razor and scissor. She follows direction well and is more than happy to recommend new ideas. She is quick and efficient as well as extremely personal. Doan!  My daughter and  I both have straight, fine hair, and looking for a stylist at the last minute was a crazy idea, but Christmas was coming and we both needed our haircut!  Doan took back to back appointments for us on the same day we called.  She gave me the best pixie cut I have had in ... I've only come here for nails, not hair. The nail salon is in the back of the store. It is a small salon, with only four chairs for pedicures, a little waiting area, two tables for manicures, and a drying table that seats four. Good hours.They do serve wine and other drinks if you wish. Prices are on par with most DC nail salons. I've been here many times and had a few different technicians. They're super nice, have good colors, give a good massage.It's a calm atmosphere (some salons can feel hectic, which isn't as nice), and very neighborhood-friendly and intimate, people are talkative! I've had friends come visit me and they've served them wine too--even though they weren't getting any work done! Probably a perk of being a regular.If I had to nit pick, my only real complaint would be the massage chairs aren't the best--but they are okay.Cash tips are preferred, but you can tip on the credit card, which is a nice convenience as well--not all support that. MY REVIEW IS JUST ON THE NAIL SERVICEI was a walk in on Sept. 6th as I wanted to find a salon close to the Navy Yard that I could hop in and out of.  I was turned off by the noisy salon next door to Soleil so when I saw their sign on the street I walked into the hair salon asking about their nail service.  The front desk attendant didn't know what I was speaking of when I asked for gel nails but that was soon rectified as I headed to the back to speak to the nail artists themselves.  I was with "T" and she did a great job.  I could go another week with my gel mani if I hadn't used nerves to pull off some of my color on my own.  Lol.  I think i found a new shop that is close to my home and my job.  I am returning at 11:15 today for another great service.  I can't wait to get back for me and my mom to get pedicures together next week.
