Unbelievably good service, i've been going here once a week for months and i mentioned that beer i had bought from them was skunked a few times, no questions asked, they immediately made it right and handed me replacement (i didn't ask for it and he insisted). I’ve lived across from this deli for nearly a year now and have spoiled myself on its sandwiches quite a few times (a lot of times. ) I’ve had most of the menu at this point and not once have I gotten a sandwich that I just thought was “eh.” The food is solid all around. The gyro here is probably my most frequently bought sandwich. Gotta love their cheese choice here too. I’m a sucker for good cheese and they nail it here when it comes to building a sandwich. This place isn't the easiest to find, but when you do you are happy you did. Tucked away by a laundromat and a car garage for an apartment complex is an great deli. Menu is great ( try the gyro or the reuben). Cheap. The key though is the daily special. The owner makes something crazy delicious just about every day. Soda. Great sub. Chips for about $8.00. I went in with a great attitude and a slight bias because of the amazing things I've heard from locals about this pop & mom market/deli. I had been encouraged to go so many times and finally decided to pop by on a whim.Ambiance: It's in a great walkable area. Steps away from Lindell, bus stops the BJC and few other locally owned markets and restaurants. Right next to a plethora of condos and apartments. It's the dwellers of this units of close proximity that frequent this establishment. It is a small space that takes in a lot of natural light. It reminds me of a NYC/Chicago corner store or bodega. When I first entered there was no one at the deli, and I waited approximately 3-4 mins. I was then cheerfully greeted by a dark haired man that seemed to be orchestrating everything that I can only presume to be the manager/owner. He helped me cypher through the menu (they were out of the ingredients to make an Italian sub) and encourage I come back. Notes: They have an ATM. All the boar head meats, sauces and condiments are all GLUTEN-FREE. For anyone that is paleo-friendly, gluten-free I suggest getting the building your own salad.Order: I ordered the ultimate gyro for my partner, the turkey club for a friend and a build your own salad with bacon, spinach, tomato and onion. I've eaten here 3 times for lunch over the past month.  Their specialty of the day has always been my choice.  Good size sandwich or wraps and I haven't been disappointed in the quality, I'll eat here over Bread Co. every time.  If you're around the Central West End at lunch time you can't go wrong!  Very clean, friendly neighborhood market. I used to go to Shapiro's market when I was a child, teen, adult, it was okay and pretty convenient. Now it's the best little market I go more often now than ever. The sandwiches are always good, the service is super good. My family, friends, and coworkers enjoy lunch from Shapiro's. A little known gem, that is by far the best sandwich in Central West End. It looks like a convenience store from at the front, but at the back is New York Style Deli in the heart of STL. Just head and shoulders above the rest, taste and quality wise and much better value for money. No contest versus all the local chain sandwich shops, like Jimmy Johns, Pickles, Subway and Snarfs. The music and smell of fresh bbq is what pulls you in. The hospitality and genuine service that is nonexistent in our time keeps you coming back. This place is one of a kind largely due to the owner being the family you've never met. The food is filled with favor and love. I moved to the neighborhood about six months ago and I've been wanting to check this place out.  Today was beautiful out so my wife and I decided to check it out.  One of the employees was outside with a grill and said that he was just finishing up some ribs.  He had me at ribs...  Generous portion, two huge sides of slaw and potato salad for 9 bucks!!  Oh, they were delicious.  My wife had a sandwich that was also very tasty.  Good selection on beer too in the store.  Will definitely be back, great local place! This is a perfect deli--fresh meat (they have Boar's Head so the quality is excellent) and a wide variety of cheese. All of the sandwich options are excellent and you also have the option to build your own. My personal favorite is the Blackened Turkey which is spicy! Perfect when accompanied with a cold drink and a bag of drinks. Shapiro's Market also serves as a small grocery store, just to name a few of the things you can get: beer, fruit, cookie dough, canned goods, hummus...random but my office has loved the occasional cookies that have resulted! They also offer some frozen foods like burritos, Amy's meals, pizzas. Located close to the Basilica, it's an easy walk from workplace. The owner is friendly and welcomes input on new menu items & grocery items. Also when the weather is warm he likes to fire up the grill & make some pork steak that is absolutely to die for!
