My fiancé and I went on dates here often when we lived in Richmond. We recently got married in RVA and hosted a family dinner at Sen for about 30 people. The staff were very nice and worked with us on all the details. They set up everything so beautifully; I love the decor sitting outside! The food was amazing as always. The service was great, the food was even better. Some of the seating was a little tight, but most of it wasn't. Our favorites were the quail in five spice butter and the french open faced sandwich (pork loin); the quail was, understandably, small, but we polished the plate, and the pork loin was perfectly cooked (the portions were large but we could easily bite through them). I visited there 2times with my husband .Overall atmosphere is really good and every sauce was hand-made so that it was great! And I felt like to be more healthier. First time I ordered pho and Bunzazo noodle with spring roll. It was soooo great However I visited again and tried to eat Vanmi, octopus and grilled chicken.. it was not so delicious .. The service and food were fantastic! My husband and I indulged in a rare date night. This place was amazing! We started with mushroom pie and then each ordered a bowl - my husband the vegan bun bowl with fried spring rolls and mine was an incredible Buddha bowl with tons of fresh veggies and fruit. I really like the pho. I remembered it being very tasty when I came here for the first time, and I don't have high hopes for asian food in Richmond, but I was willing to come here a second time. Second time, I got the pho again and enjoyed it, but the soup was extremely salty. Not a one off thing because 5 other friends I ate with who also had pho said theirs were very salty too.So 4/5. This was the best pho I've ever had. Beef brisket was marbled with fat and so full of flavor I took a few minutes to enjoy each piece. Broth flavor was multilayered and so unique while still being recognizable as pho. I had the Sen tea with, as suggested by the staff, sweet tea up front and herbal potency after taste. We went to this restraint for a late lunch and ordered starters like an octopus dish, 5 spice buttered quail, fried chicken wings, and sardines with quail eggs in a pot with various other sauces. We also ordered a rice noodle soup with a variety of meats in it. At first, I was suspicious of the quality of Vietnamese food outside of Washington DC where we come from. DC has a variety of quality and reasonably priced Vietnamese restraunts, and I was reserved about this restraunt's offerings over the restraunts we knew from home. The octopus starting dish arrived first, and I was pleasantly surprised by its unique flavor and fresh taste from spices unknown to me, as well as it's great overall quality. The refreshing taste from the spices was subtle, just enough to tickle my taste buds to an appetizing level. The 5 spiced butter quail came next along with its good quality and juiciest wings I have ever tasted, however not extraordinary beyond belief. The chicken was crispy and juicy to my liking, and the spices were unique with salt, lemon grass, and other ingredients difficult to find elsewhere. It came with a bowl of more of this spice mix and some siracha. I tasted all the varieties of meat in the noodle soup includibg the pork belly which was nicely seasoned. The soup was not the regular pho-type soup and aligned more with Thai-style soup, which was sour, spicy, and sweet from pineapples. The non-alcoholic drink selection is great here, coupled with a healthy menu and many vegan/vegetarian options. My wife had the vegan pho after only having beef pho previously, and to her surprise the vegan pho at Sen is on par if not better than the beef variety at some notable Vietnamese spots around town.
