Came here for the first time today, and it was my first foray into Polish food! We ordered the stuffed cabbage plate and kielbasa plate to go. Both dishes were hefty sizes and tasted fresh. The kielbasa was definitely the way to go though! Next time I come here I'll probably skip the pierogies and stuffed cabbage. The market also has a lot of cool pantry items and home items to browse while you're waiting for your food! More...

This is a Pittsburgh bucket list must. love it here. There are so many flavors of pierogies. Never had a blueberry pierogie? You need to come by. They have good options for vegetarian and gluten free. Be aware, it's more a diner vibe than a restaurant. My reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5, is that if you've never been there, it isn't super clear what to do. But fear not, just walk to the little window in the middle of the store and order -- it'll be great. More...

If you're into pierogis then this is the place for you!! So I'm not a fan of those little dumplings but the experience was great with quick service and the market/shop with trinkets to entertain us. If you're Polish or know someone who is it's the perfect place to pick something up for them! More...

Nice place to stop in for some authentic pierogies this afternoon. Shared a plate of the Potato and Cheddar Pierogies and the Potato and Farmer's Cheese Pierogies. While I prefer the fried pierogies, these boiled ones were fresh and had a nice texture. Would like to stop back in and try many of the other food options. More...

Golumpkis are the key to my heart. When you step in it smells like a Pulaski Club sweatshirt by Uncle Boscoe gave me that, even after washing 6 times, still has a distinct odor. Ahhh....anyway. This place takes you there! You walk in and they got it all--chocolates at the front, a fine refrigerated section of deli meats, mushrooms (chantrelles, boletes), a fridge full of pierogis of many varieties, and a kitchen. You got to FIGHT for your seat, screw everyone else. This is about you and your collective memory of your grandma making you borscht and pierogis. Grab that seat and claim it! The portions are nice and the price is low. Delicious! More...

Lots of food to choose from, and the warm atmosphere made it quite a nice place to get lunch. There were also lots of imported goods from Poland that are hard to find elsewhere!

I quickly learned that the Strip District has grocery stores for just about any ethnic food you could want. Chinese, Japanese, Mexican. ..but Polish Now that's one I don't think I've ever seen. I know just about nothing when it comes to Poland or Polish food, but it's safe to say that this grocery educated me real quick!  With the selection they have, you wouldn't even think you were in the U.S... Meats, packaged goods, sweets...it's just about all there.  So much culture in one tiny little shop! More...

This is now my go-to for comfort food. I ventured here recently to get some good quality sauerkraut and dumplings for my traditional New Year' s Day meal. I ended up leaving with kielbasa and pierogies and two different types of sauerkraut. I want to return for a meal, which seemed to be pretty popular with other customers. Everything here is authentic and the employees are super helpful explaining the different varieties of products. The store also sells homemade pierogies, sauerkraut, soups and cabbage rolls. This is the real deal. More...

We definitely underestimated this tiny little gem.  The food is outstanding and well worth the wait,  because seating is without a doubt an issue here.  We each ordered something different,  and enjoyed sampling each other's meals.  We look forward to returning and other than the lack of seating,  have no complaints. This place definitely lived up to the hype. The pierogies were out of this world. I was raised by my Lithuanian grandma who had made homemade pierogies at our local church. As amazing as hers were these definitely would have given her a run for her money. Stuffed cabbage (halupki) was excellent as well. Picked up a couple nut rollswhich I haven't tried yet but I'm looking forward to enjoyinj. Can't wait to visit  here again when I'm in the city. More...

Kielbasa, pierogi, and haluski... oh my!S&D is a little market and deli that also offers hot meals and has a couple of large tables to sit in at the back. The kielbasa, haluski, and stuffed cabbage were all enjoyable. I think pierogi are my least favorite dumpling sibling since the potato and cheese ones tend to be quite mild and bland, but the mushroom ones offered here were really good. Overall, I had a very comforting and delicious lunch. Highly recommended for a quick and casual lunch at great value. More...

Yummm! Such a delicious and affordable place to stop in the strip district! S&D Polish Deli is like a little Polish deli/market in the front with small ordering window and a few tables in the back. They don't have a large menu, but they have all the staples! I ordered a polish platter with kielbasa, haluski, and pierogis and then added a cabbage roll on the side.  I split this with my boyfriend and we had more than enough food at a super affordable price! I also checked in on Yelp and was able to score a free drink! The lady at the window was super accommodating and helped me with ordering all the best food! Everything we tried was delicious, the haluski was my favorite but really everything was great! While S&D polish deli may not look like much on the outside, it is definitely worth a stop! More...

The halusky and the pierogi were also great, very well seasoned and cooked. The cabbage roll was nice and tender with tons of meaty stuffing, perfect! The staff were all very nice and my meal came out quickly. I was overall very satisfied with my meal. One word: pierogis. We ventured into S&D late on a Saturday morning after perusing the strip district. We walked in worried that we would be too early for lunch (it was around 11am), but a line had already formed at the order counter. Unfortunately, S&D was out of cheddar and potato pierogis on the day we visited, so we opted for a platter of farmers cheese and potato, potato, and kraut and mushroom. Although the website says that fried pierogis are an option, we were told at the counter that we could only have them boiled. No big deal, as we love pierogis either way and were very excited to try them. After about a 15 minute wait, our number was finally called. A heaping plate of pierogis dripping in butter was brought to our table. Upon diving in, we knew the wait and agreeing to the boiled pierogis was well worth it. We enjoyed every last pierogi on the plate, but our favorite was the mushroom and kraut. Overall, S&D is well worth the stop. We are already counting down the days until our return! More...

First off this place is amazing the food was so good, I can't wait to back again and again.  The store up front opens to a small dining area but the home style kitchen really gives it that authentic European feel.  We had a pierogi platter and the kielbasa platter and both were the best I've ever tasted.  The kielbasa platter came with a couple pierogis and delicious noodles.  The homemade mustard was delicious.  This is the only place I will eat in the strip district.  And they are extremely friendly as well. When in Pittsburgh.....we knew we had to have some pierogies and kielbasa. I found this wonderful gem on the Strip, which was right by our hotel. Mostly a grocery store, toward the back are tables and a counter where you put in your order. We had pierogies and kielbasa with mustard. The kielbasa was so tender and delicious. The pierogies were steamed and also very tender. They had a variety of pierogie fillings to choose from. I highly recommend grabbing some deliciousness while you're in Pittsburgh. More...

Well I'll be. I love pierogies but can't find them back home so I walked about a mile to this spot. It was worth every step! I ordered the pierogi platter - I asked for a substitute which the kitchen forgot to do, so they gave me extras. I had all three pierogies from the platter plus the daily special of kraut and bacon. Wow, these were phenomenal. My favorites were the two different cheese types - smooth bold flavor. I'm not a huge kraut fan but the bacon kraut were also very good. The mushroom kraut were my least favorite, but if you like Kraut, I'm sure they're great. They're served in a buttery sauce that is just perfection. Service was friendly and price can't be beaten. I wish I had time to come back and try even more. More...

This polish market is a hidden gem on the strip in Pittsburgh.  At first glance you might miss that there is a cafe set in the back of this deli/ market. On day 3 of our families food road trip my wife decided she wanted Eastern European and yelp and google reviews sent us to S&D.  We shared a pierogi plate with several varieties, a kielbasa with mustard and a cup of borscht.  The freshness of each items made for a much better polish experience than the frozen pierogi and Michigan market kielbasa we have had at home.  As we devoured our food we all agreed that if we had a place like S&D near home we would never serve the frozen options available to us at home.  As far as the borscht I personally have never been much of a fan, but as this is not my trip I was excited to try (especially from a place that seemed to hold to a more traditional roots of it's regional cuisine).  It was curiously good and pretty hard to explain.  My previous borscht experiences have been closer to stew consistency but this was most definitely broth based with meat dumplings.  I would describe the broth as both tangy and rich (mildly sweet).  My wife and I will enjoy trying to duplicate their effort at home (especially seeing as how we couldn't identify the sour component in the broth). Overall the food was prepared simply and traditionally in a way that musters memories of a home cooked meal in the "old country " if in fact we were from Poland.  The borscht was the most unique and unexpected menu item we chose and it leaves me wanting more and also wanting a good hearty bread and butter to enjoy it with.  Great find by my wife and we will be back. Honestly, this is one of my favorite places to go in the strip for Polish comfort food. It's not super healthy, in fact, the perogies are covered in butter but if you' re looking for the polish equivalent of soul food, you won't be disappointed. To me, it tastes best when it's cold out because of all of the heavy meat and buttered noodles, and also, the red Borscht will warm you right up! More...
