We have been here a couple of times in the last few months. A few months ago, our experience was downright bad, but this most recent time, it was wonderful. Maybe they have things on the right track. Most recently, we celebrated our anniversary here. They patio is nice, but midway through our dinner, a Starbucks delivery truck parked in front of us and unloaded stuff for about 25 minutes. Not Sabio's fault, but one of the challenges with the patio bring right on the street with no "buffer" zone. We ordered cocktails. I had their special barrel aged Negroni, which had a weird minty taste. I asked them to make me a more traditional version, which they gladly took care of. The remake was much better and set our dinner off on the right track. Appetizers were good: we had the bread with butter and black salt and the gnocchi. Both were excellent. We also enjoyed the octopus salad with a perfectly poached egg on top--the octopus was grilled perfectly. The salmon crudo was just ok--the mango sauce was too sweet and overpowered the raw fish. The zucchini flowers were okay, but the wood ear mushrooms were a bit too chewy. The service in the past was been weak, but this latest time, it was on point. Summary: great place for a special occasion or business dinner--just a bit too expensive in terms of value to make it a anytime dinner out. More...

One word: Amazing!  I have heard rave reviews of Sabio and finally made a reservation to dine here with my husband and good friends. The staff is very attentive to your every need, always making sure your wine glass is filled, as well as being a part of the presentation of dishes. The food was impeccable, served in perfect portions. I love that the majority of the ingredients are sourced locally.  The bartenders make fabulous drinks as well. Do not miss an opportunity to dine here but make sure you make a reservation as it is popular. More...

I was in the area for a work trip and trying to find a place that would be nice eat alone. I went here for their Happy hour menu which is Monday-Friday 4-6pm. I was craving for oysters and it was awesome to know they have $1 oysters during happy hour along with other items. Reading from reviews it seems their cauliflower and truffle cheese is very popular but I was more interested in the '24 Month Jamon Serrano & Manchego with Sesame Crostini'. I took a seat in the bar and ordered A half dozen oysters and the Jamon which was enough for me. The oysters were fresh and I wish I gotten more! Jamon was as expected and it also came with some mustard which was a nice complement for the crostini and Manchego. The atmosphere is very impressive. Very romantic to bring somewhere here for a first date or have a ladies night out.  Parking in the area was easy, there are many 3 hour free parking areas on the Main Street. When I arrived at 430pm it was pretty empty but by the time I left at 5:30pm it was a bit busy and it was only a Monday! More...

We had our rehearsal brunch here and absolutely loved it! We were sat in the Castille Room which fit 20 people comfortably. The food was a great hit, especially the French toast. What I loved the most was the service; Abigail is incredibly attentive to detail, she went to the farmers market in the morning and picked up two flower bouquets for our table. She also packaged up all leftovers for us to take back to our hotel and enjoy with the bridal party. All this was for a reasonable price as promoted on their website. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! More...

Very very classy and a good experience overall. Their dishes are mainly meat dishes, so if you're a vegetarian expect to only have one or two options. The Gouda cheese For The Table dish is amazing, I ordered it twice in one sitting. The sourdough bread is above average but not to die for. The lemonade was a nice balance between tart and sweet. Service was good, but could have been better. More...

Well deserving of five stars! This is high-dining and I loved every bite. The portions of cheese were a little small for a table of 6, so we had to order two. Loved the olives that it comes with as well. I didn't love the charcuterie board. The meats didn't have a big enough variety for me personally. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes melted in my mouth. I even loved the crispy leaf on top - ate the whole thing. Our server was nice, but sometimes getting something like a drink or something else took a little long. Overall, terrific high-quality restaurant. Felt classy while being there eating classy food. Would highly recommend to my Pleasanton friends! More...

But I ordered the Dry Aged Burger, took off the pickles, added the avocado & some spicy habanero sauce to the top of the burger, and took the top of the bun off, cut it in ½, it was DELICIOUS! And I took the second ½ of the burger home. We also ALL shared the Oysters, Cauliflower, and Dutch Baby Pancake. And ALL of them were also DELICIOUS! We will definitely be going back AGAIN! More...

This is a great restaurant on Main Street in Downtown Pleasanton!  I've been here once for brunch and three times for dinner.  My first visit was soon after their opening.  My most recent visit was this past Sunday for dinner with my family and parents.  I have to admit that my first impression was just good around 4 stars.  However, I feel that they have perfected some of their dishes over the years and I love their changing menu that highlights seasonal ingredients.  We started with drinks and enjoyed a variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts.  We shared everything so we could all have a taste of every dish-that's my favorite way to dine!!DrinksDirty Cougar-citrusy vodka based drink is a fave.Pink Sapphire-gin based cocktail was ok.Chef's Gin&Tonic-light and refreshing. For the TableCharcuterie Platter-assortment of meats served with mustard, pickles and crostini.Sourdough Levain Bread-great bread and butter.  My youngest could have eaten the entire loaf!Cauliflower with sambal-we always get this spicy, tasty cauliflower dish.Appetizers Tempura Squash Blossoms-delicate crispy fried blossoms filled with chèvre and served with oyster mushrooms.Gnocchi with Italian Sausage Sugo-this was delicious and I want more!!  Pillowy soft gnocchi in a savory sausage ragu is a must try.Octopus terrine-I always order octopus when I see it on the menu.  I love octopus and it's something I don't know how to prepare.  This was really good because the octopus was very tender and I liked the slightly spicy vinaigrette.Albacore Tiradito-this was the only dish that was just ok for us.  We love sushi and sashimi, but felt the sauce overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the albacore.Entrees Monterey Black Cod-delicious fish with crisped skin served with a sweet butternut squash purée and braised fennel.Jagerwurst Sausage-my husband loved this very flavorful sausage dish served with sauerkraut, apple, grits and a mustard sauce.Pumpkin Seed Pesto Cavatelli-I was surprised how much we all loved this pesto pasta dish.  The pesto was so good and I liked the chunks of thick sliced eggplant.  The pasta was perfectly al dente.Wagyu NY Strip Steak-this was a splurge, but my dad insisted since we were celebrating my birthday!    It's pricey, but the steak was a generous cut around 18 oz!!  Our steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and so tender and flavorful.  It was served with mushrooms and fermented potatoes.Desserts-We ordered them all!!Pound CakeStrawberry Hibiscus Jelly DonutsChocolate and Raspberry cake-our favorite!!  Delicious family dinner and we'll be back!!I More...

This place surprised me in a good way.  For some reason I totally thought that this was going to be one of those pricey "nuevo" latino places that serves up modern/upscale tapas.  But nope, it is pretty California, which I'm all for.I was told by my friends who are locals that the menus change often.  The brunch menu was basically a one pager, which I'm totally fine with.  I like it when kitchens/staff are focused, rather than trying to bite off more than they can chew.Came for a weekend brunch and it fit perfectly with the bright airy space with an artsy ambiance.  Just kinda surprised on how "not" busy they were for a Sunday brunch.  It was a long weekend though, so maybe that had a lot to do with it.  No line, no reservations, no problem.Started with a Pimm's Cup ($14/2*) and didn't really care for this version.  The ginger beer was nice and prominent but that's where the good ends.  It was too tart, so along with the ginger beer, it really tasted like a Mule drink, which I don't really dig.  And because it was so tart, I couldn't really taste the Pimm's, which has a nice herbal flavor.  Eventually moved on to their house Screw Driver ($12/5*) and that was much better.  They use Tito's and FRESH squeeze OJ.  Nuff said.Pork Belly Poblano Hash ($14/3*)  This was so close to being a 5 star dish.  Pork belly was tender and crisp on the exterior, perfect.  Taters nicely fried and chunked.  Poblano chiles in huge hunks and perfectly cooked without it being at all mushy.  BUT the over medium egg that was supposed to top it, came out over-HARD.  So no runny yolk, which would of shot it to the tops for ratings.  My friends' food arrived also, so I didn't want to send it back and not have food in front of me.  So Damn Close!Spam Loco Moco ($15ish/4*)  Only tried a bite of the "spam" because they make their own version here.  Same color as the canned version but this was way more dense and "steak-y", which I can appreciate.  They were able to replicate the flavor and salt level, which I was surprised on.  The dish also got raves on the rice and mushroom gravy combo.  And the egg on this dish was properly cooked, go figure.Banana/Nutella Dutch Baby - didn't try this but it looked great.  But it was one of the smallest dutch baby's I've ever seen, usually they are huge.  A dutch baby is like a soufle'd pancake, so it is light and airy.  My friends mowed it down, so I can only assume it was tasty. So brunch impressed me enough that I totally wouldn't mind in checking out their dinner scene.  They made a fan out of me for the most part, despite a few mishaps.  So looking forward into a probable return. Oh my stars and garters! Why did I wait so long to eat at Sabio? Where the heck have the reviews of this place been hiding? I mean I was startled by how good this was...I was expecting hovering around average and got so much better! Let me explain.Sabio has been on my tickler list for a long time but no one I know has talked about it. My spouse and I thought about having Sunday brunch and I made reservations for us and my grown children.I started out with mimosas which were fine. But then we decided to share the grilled cheese sandwich...Oh my goodness! The things they do with grilled cheese, truffles, honey, it should be illegal! In fact, I think Wine Spectator gave them the award for best grilled cheese in the state. And it is!The next course was insane! The Elvis Presley was bloody wild! Chocolate, Peanut butter, french toast, and few other items I'm sure I can't remember made an epic tribute to the King of Rock and Roll. In fact, I tasted everyone's food...and I mean four different plates of food...it was delicious! The bread is baked fresh and local (Salt N Craft I believe), the wines are varied and delicious (I'm coming back to sample more), and the food was outstanding. Now, I know places that are more elegant, more pricey, more everything. Be at peace, dear reader, I'm sure there are draw backs somewhere. But for my little town of Pleasanton, this was a huge leap forward! A place that punches heavy weight class with character and flavor! You deserve your five stars, Sabio! Keep up the good work! We really enjoyed the small plates (Sunol tomato panzanella burrata, Devil's Gulch pork belly, and semolina gnocchi) and Cavatelli fairy eggplant entrees that we ordered. The chicken fried flank steak was very tough and the lobster sauce was way too salty. Mentioned it to the staff but sadly they didn't really seem to care. Sadly that may also influence our return to Sabio on Main.NOTE: Parking near the restaurant is is difficult to find as there is a Starbucks next door and there are so many downtown restaurants in that area without parking lots.
