After living in my current, single family house, for 20+ years, I decided it was time to renovate approx 70% of the living space (big living room, dining room, kitchen, bathrooms, playroom and entry level) Initially, I thought I'd be able to handle all aspects of the renovation myself but it soon became apparent I was in way over my head. Thanks to a friend, I was introduced to Debra of Room Renaissance. Smartest decision I made was entrusting the entire coordination, and renovation process, over to Debra. From day one, she had a vision to transform the outdated look of the house to one more contemporary and inviting. And more marketable, I will add. Debra was meticulous in her approach...in terms of coordinating the contractor/flooring co etc and ordering furniture & fixtures. My renovation took around 5 months and I couldn't have been happier how everything turned out. More...

Debra is amazing! Her taste and aesthetic are impeccable and she is an absolute joy to work with. Debra's staging transformed my house and it sold within 2 weeks. I was so impressed with her work that I hired her to help me downsize from a house and decorate my new condo - I could not have done it without her, furnishing an entire new apartment is a daunting task. She helped me every step of the way with great ideas and was always respectful of my budget. I wake up smiling every morning when I look at my beautiful new home! More...

I absolutely loved working with Debra. She supported us in the re-design of our living room and entryway. We wanted something modern and classy. Bright and colorful but still mature. Overriding every decision needed to be a consideration of our life stage, with two messy and active kids at home, ages 4 and 2. Debra's service and design ideas far exceeded our expectations. My heart jumped when she presented her ideas - really gorgeous designs that truly reflected what we were going for. It was obvious she was listening. Debra is impeccable. She pays attention to detail and was able to adapt to our desires and needs, and within our budget. One of my favorite things about her is that she always gives good exlanations behind her ideas. She explains why she recommends moving the furniture to a different lay out. Or why a table lamp may or may not work with the space and design. So not only did I have fresh ideas and perspectives from a discerning eye, but I learned a ton in the process. She equipped me with tools and tips that I can take with me for next time. Debra is professional and responsive. She moves quickly but not at the expense of her creativity. She is flexible in her availability which I really appreciated - part of the reason why I needed a designer to help was because the demands of work and family are sometimes just too much. She accommodated that and bent over backwards to help us in that regard. For example, after choosing from fabric choices for some chairs we had re-upholstered, I quietly freaked out and thought to myself, "Now how the heck am I going to get myself to the Lower East Side to buy this fabric?" Without skipping a beat Debra kindly let me know she was going to be in the neighborhood and she could pick it up. Seriously that kind of stuff felt life-saving at the time given how paralyzed I felt about making it all happen. Debra is truly a joy to work with. An artist and a professional. More...

“Debra took the neutral palette of this townhouse and made it sizzle. Her artfully curated accessories throughout brought nothing but "wows" from the open house attendees. The happy ending tells the whole story - an accepted offer only two weeks after listing the property for sale.” Karen Keller, Licensed Real Estate Salesperson More...

Q&As

I start with a complimentary thirty-minute in-home consultation to explore how I might assist. If during the consultation you would like to dig deeper and explore solutions to problems, my consultancy fee is $150 per hour. During that time, we not only explore your desired design direction, expectations, time frame, and budget but I provide ideas, inspire you, answer questions, give advice, and offer recommendations and solutions to your design needs. If we're a good fit, upon receiving a signed Letter of Agreement and retainer I hit the ground running with measuring, photographing your space, documenting your furnishings and get started developing a design plan and reaching out to Trades that need bidding if any renovations are involved. We then present our exciting findings and designs, make adjustments to any selections, finalize the plan, and begin the purchasing process. We can handle the entire purchasing process or you can order items yourself. If we purchase the items, we include a mark-up but your cost will still be less than retail. We then collaborate with the various contractors, fabricators, Tradespersons and over see every construction and installation detail. Or you can determine which portion of the project you would like to oversee. Once all construction, if applicable, is completed and furnishings are delivered, we will do a walk through and note any, if at all, deficiencies and create a remedy plan. At the end, the photographers arrive to photograph and visually capture our completed work to be shared with all.

I would describe my style as modern minimalist, I prefer smooth clean lines, clutter-free surfaces, paired with modern architecture and light open spaces. I undertake transitional contemporary styles with ease creating calm aesthetics and love mixing up all sorts of elements that encompass modern, classics, industrial, and rustic details to achieve an eclectic look that never lacks in intrigue or creativity.

Creating and bringing change that’s instrumental in making a difference in how people feel about their homes and how they live is what I love most about my job. It starts with the “person” – connecting, relating, understanding their needs and dreams and playing a role in making those dreams come true. As I search for inspiration, select colors, fabrics, furnishings, texture, and create a smooth flow of space that will suit my client’s dream excites me and makes me want to work hard to please and create a beautiful home. I’m also extremely organized, actually omewhat compulsive about it, and nothing invigorates me more than taking on a problem, creating a plan and making sure there is a precise favorable outcome.

I’m a creative at heart who likes to solve problems. I’m always looking for an opportunity to express, design, re-imagine and renew. I’ve worked as a fashion merchandiser for large fashion houses. When I needed a change, I chose to explore the human mind and got a psychology and social work master degree at Columbia University. I worked therapeutically with people in creating solutions to their problems. When I needed a return to artistic expression, I created and founded a Bilingual Greeting Card business, Cultúrame, and sold the cards nationwide to lovers of Latin culture. Now in search of a new creative outlet, I’ve gone back to my roots in playing with color, fabrics, and design. Having designed and overseen several personal home renovations and design projects, I’ve decided to make a difference in people’s lives by helping them enjoy the pleasures of new beginnings in a freshly designed home.
