Phew. It is hard to describe how good this bbq is. I get overwhelmed every time I go with making a decision because the rib tips, pulled pork, & chicken are all equally fire. Just melt-in-your-mouth slow cooked goodness. You can taste the time put in and the staff love is amazing. Do yourself a favor and load up on the Kansa-Lina fries and Mac n cheese as well. Their ribs are so delicious honestly they are SO SO GOOOOOOD but i got their Mac and cheese $4 for a small cup and it literally was the worst Mac and cheese I've ever had, I would've rather boil my $4 and ate that instead. #1 vote from BBQ-obsessed family! The meatiest, juiciest, expertly smoked, dry rub seasoned and tangy sauced ribs we've ever had. Period. Â Unlike the skimpy meat portions we've had elsewhere, the rib meat was substantial and just fell off the bone, tender and moist. Â While I'm typically a fork and knife rib eater, these were the 1st ribs I gnawed so as not to miss a single bite of heaven. Â Although they sell dry rub and sauce, there's no way I could replicate the smoky wonder of these ribs. My husband had the brisket and that, too, was the best we ever had! Not only is the BBQ superb but everyone was so friendly, and Ricky himself stopped at our table to inquire how we felt about the meal. Â Although there is a well-known rib place in our neck of the woods, I'll willingly drive 45 minutes to Ricky's instead. Wish I could give more than 5 stars to Ricky and his team. More...

I first tried this BBQ at the Capital building in Hartford, CT. It was so good that I have introduced this restuarant to my family and friends. The food here is absolutely amazing. We ordered ribs, beef brisket and Mac n cheese for our bbq themed engagement party and the food was to die for. After looking at the lineup for the CT BBQ Fest we were planning on going to today, we decided the hour drive to go there just wasn't worth it. Instead we came to Ricky D's Rib Shack and it was a great change on plans. I'd picked up some of their ribs at TJ's in EH and we loved them so we've been meaning to get down to their place in New Haven. I honestly can't pick one favorite out of all this. Everything was so on point flavor wise and perfectly tender. Good area, clean place, nice guys, fantastic BBQ. Saw Ricky D’s while on my way to a Science Park meeting. Grabbed a menu and couldn’t wait to try it. So glad to find a terrific BBQ so close to home. Sauce and rub are both delicious. Super nice gentlemen running this family-owned place. Ricky D himself and his brother, Brendan. Wish we could have eaten more. Beware, portions are huge! So far: Pulled Pork sandwich, Potato Salad, fries, Spinach an Okra. And not-too-sweet Sweet Tea. Everything was delicious. Very high quality. Peppery potato salad is a miracle. Okra and spinach was a great alternative to collard greens. NEXT TIME: must try ribs, brisket, corn bread, mac n’ cheese. Oh yeah, chicken too. Easy to get to on foot or bicycle (RIGHT around the corner from Bike New Haven drop point and the Farmington Canal Rail Trail). Plenty of parking for folks still using cars to get around. Ricky Ds deserves 10 stars!!! This is literally THE BEST BBQ we have EVER HAD! And we drove through Texas in March!! The service was top notch and the BBQ melts in your mouth! We had a large party and had brisket, pork, ribs, sandwiches, sweet potato fries, fries, coleslaw, and Mac n cheese. Not only did I hear about the great food, but I am a fan of Ricky D's. I live in another state (18 hours away). I needed food catered at the last min. 11:00am this morning last min. I called Ricky D's before they even opened and they answered with a YES WE CAN. Thank you for answering the call. My mom had Ricky D's and she told me about the establishment. Came here with a few friends who are part of a BBQ club (We choose a BBQ location once a month to have dinner together. Ricky D's goes out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The food was delicious and the proportions were something we have never seen at any other location.
