Greg is a talented trainer with a real passion for what he does. He is able to gear workouts towards your individual needs and makes you feel comfortable during the process. I would suggest trying primitive athlete before you waste your time and money somewhere else. More...

Incredibly grateful for the detailed diet plan for my mother, which dramatically improved her condition! My mother has a great deal of medical conditions that contribute to her severe digestive problems. Diabetes, liver disease and gastroparesis (rare condition where the stomach cannot empty itself, is thought to not have an official cure & is very debilitating) are just a few. Prior to seeking your service, my mother was struggling to eat on a daily basis because she could not keep anything down although she was very hungry. A contributing factor or possibly byproduct was high spikes in her sugar (in the 400s, 100 is normal & 240 is high) and insulin was not helping much. Although she was recently was seen at Temple, one of the few hospitals specializing in gastroparesis, and underwent extensive evaluation they had little to offer in terms of treatment and neglected to provide any dietary plans even though the disease is a digestive one! After only 2-3 days of following your personalized diet plan, my mother's sugar dropped to an amazing 90!!! Further, it continued to stabilize at a healthy level. She slowly gained energy and gradually increased her food amounts to where she no longer felt hungry. We are both so thankful for your successful and affordable diet plan. For many years, Greg has worked with my sister and brother-in-law, my niece, my mother, several of my children, and me. I have worked with other trainers in the past, but none has equalled Greg in his comprehensive knowledge of the body, injuries, and nutrition. And, I mean comprehensive. I have rarely asked a question that he has been unable to answer thoroughly, and, when I have, he offers to do the research to help individuals make informed decisions about their holistic health.One of his many strengths is his care in developing strategies for the individual. He is mindful of all minor details in posture and movement that indicate potential problems. His approach is slow, careful, and yet intense. He is acutely aware of the powerful connection between what we eat and how our body responds to exercise and by extension, disease. Be prepared when you ask him about nutrition to get a rather unconventional answer backed by extensive medical research.In addition, Greg is simply a really nice guy. Several years ago I started to notice a pain in my right shoulder that worsened as time went on. The doctors said that I had a rotator cuff problem and was a good candidate for surgery. After talking to some guys at the gym who had had the surgery and reading online about the experience of others, I quickly decided that I wasn't going to go that route. Both my vocation as a photographer, and my avocation as a musician wouldn't allow me the 6 months recovery time that it seemed to take. About this time I had started to work with Greg as my personal trainer. When I informed him of my shoulder problem he was immediately determined to help me get past this without surgery. We started on a gradual, but comprehensive plan to build up all the muscles surrounding the injured area without stressing the injury itself. Over the first few weeks the pain started to subside and eventually it became a non-issue. I continue to work out with Greg, and to this day have no problem what so ever with my shoulder and thus avoided surgery altogether. Greg is a consummate professional. He has a passion for what he does and is constantly improving his techniques. Just like any good artist or musician, he is creative in a way that I have never seen in his field before. It makes working out interesting, fun, as well as extraordinarily effective. I couldn't be more pleased with how Greg has helped me with that situation in particular, and with my overall fitness in general. Greg at Primitive Athelete is a pleasure to work with. He is knowledgeable about many aspects of training and creates a program based of your goals. He doesn't go with a one-sized fits all program like many of the large gyms and boutique gyms do. I've been working Greg for a few years now and started my step son training with him too. One of the things that I really like is the atmospehere. Primitive Athete is not one of these everything is always perfectly in place, well lit boutique gyms where you're working out to Kenny G music. Greg Murphy is my Trainer, Dietician, Phyical Therapist and Pulmonoligist all wrapped up in one!I have been with Greg since I was 49 years old and diagnosed With Cronic obstructive Pulmonary Disease with Emphysema. Through a personally designed high impact training Regimen, We were able to stretch the normal tissue in my lungs and increase my ability to breath. I'm 61 now and haven't have any breathing issues and am drug free.Also, Greg helped me rehab several injuries over the years. I have 2 complete knee replacements he got me through in therapy, 2 shoulder operations, and a reconstructed wrist. All the while keeping me in much better shape than I was 20 years ago. In today's society it is not easy to find someone who has a deep understanding of their art but also practices what they preach. Although he is one of the few that fit that description he is not hard to find. After over 7 years of training with him his dedication and drive for improvement never cease to amaze me. To him this is not a job but a passion. Overall he cares about the individual and is willing to go to great lengths to help them achieve their goals. Where other people might teach in large classes Greg teaches in a smaller to individual class to maintain a higher quality of teaching. Technically speaking, he is always working since when he is not training people he is researching and developing more efficient techniques and ideas. Not only does he offer great information for efficiency of physical techniques but he also has a lot to offer intellectually. I can remember many times having very interesting and thought provoking conversations after my session had ended. But work is not the only thing that defines Greg. He is not only a great teacher, he is a great family man as well. This speaks volumes about his character. Although he has a dedication to his art and helping people he never sacrifices time with his family who in return take the time to train with him. As I stated above, it is hard to find someone who is not only knowledgeable in their art but who is willing to apply that knowledge. This is something that is important to me and has helped me grow in all areas of my life. Greg's nature is such that he naturally motivates me to become my best self. I've been training with Greg for several years now , after spending a year or 2 at an MMA gym . I found Greg's real world approach to self defense more practical to my needs & as I get older I feel this is the best place your gonna find if not the only place for this type of training , my goal is eventually to go much more often .

I've been serving in the Army for the past 18 years. During this time I've conducted a lot of physical training. Running, Ruck marching, obstacle courses, martial arts, weight lifting, repelling from helicopters, ect. .. Not to mention several combat deployments. All of these have taken their toll on my back. Before I linked up with Greg from Primitive Athlete, I suffered from constant back pain. I was at a point where I couldn't even work out with out feeling like I had been hit by a bus the next morning. Then I started training with Greg and he got me back on track. He created training routines for me that focus on rebuilding the muscles around my injured areas in order to strengthen me as a whole. His personalized workout plans and guidance have allowed me to maximize my training while reducing stress on my back. We've slowly been able to introduce new routines into my training in order to help strengthen my back and return me to peak shape. He's extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the body's physical workings and functions. Since I've been training with him, both my strength and flexibility have increased, while my back pain (both post workout and in general) have decreased. I've even started training in martial arts again with him. Greg's expertise in physical training and martial arts are top notch and his studio is setup with everything needed to train for both. I have been working with Greg Murphy for almost 3 months and the experience has exceeded my expectations. I trained in self defense before but Greg's real world application is second to none. Greg's knowledge of strength and conditioning training has also been an added benefit. I have had problems with my lower back to the point where I no longer would do squats. Not only did Greg improve my form on squats so I was able to do them again, I am now adding substantial weight. My overall strength has gone up in every area and I feel better than I have in a long time. Working with Greg was exactly what I was looking for.
