Phil is a fantastic drum instructor.  He was super patient and was very balanced in his approach. My son did book work and also learned to play songs. We only stopped our lessons because we moved. Phil's a great guy. I definitely recommend him! More...

If you're looking for a drum instructor, I'm convinced you couldn't make a better choice than Phil Dalmolin! In addition to his long professional career and skills, Phil is just a natural teacher. The first time I took my son for a lesson, it was really obvious how well he connects to people and how he translates his passion for music into really outstanding instruction. My son has been taking lessons from Phil for 2.5 years now, has become very talented, is the 1st chair in school band for drums, and has the desire and drive to practice (which he does all the time) and become better. So much of the credit goes to Phil for his ability to teach and inspire! More...

I decided to play the drums at an older age, and can tell you it is possible to teach an old dog a new trick. Phil is obviously a very skilled drummer, but I have also found him to be informative, patient and well organized. I started with the basic 8 note count and have since added bass and snare to my counting, it takes practice, but I making progress and Phil is the reason. More...

I've been taking lessons with Phil since I was in the 8th grade. He is an absolutely amazing teacher. He adapts his curriculum to every student he teaches, and knows how to explain things in terms you will understand. Phil brings a very relaxed environment to every lesson which helps the learning process exponentially, its just a lot harder to learn when you have a "Whiplash" type instructor breathing down your neck! Phil is the reason I earned a scholarship for drumset at Santa Fe University. If you're looking for a school that will actually improve your playing and make you a professional musician, you've found it. More...

I had been playing drums for a few years before I started taking lessons from Phil. I thought I knew a lot but I had plateaued in my drumming. Then Phil came along and helped me grow incredibly. He made me a more technical drummer and helped me learn how to stay in the pocket of the song. Everything he teaches is for a certain purpose and will ultimately make you a much more mature drummer. He is very encouraging and is willing to help in any way but he also expects you to do work by yourself when he Isn't there in order to be ready for the next session. I really enjoyed my time growing in my skills from one of the best drummers out there. More...

Phil was an amazing mentor to me. When I first started taking lessons from him I already knew how to play drums, but he helped me to refine my playing and taught me new techniques that took my music to a whole new level. Phil doesn't just teach you how to be a drummer, he teaches you how to be a musician, so you can take what you've learned in the studio and put into a performance with other musicians. More...

Q&As

Being able to help people follow their dreams of getting better. We all try to grow in whatever we may do professionally or hobby. I really get a deep satisfaction when I see only after a few months people break the barriers they've been struggling with and playing the songs and music they only dreamed of playing before. I like to know that I facilitated a child or adult with tools that made them believe that they were just a little more special because they had put in the effort to be that way.

After professionally playing in dozens of bands over 4 decades I decided it was time to get off the road and start the school I had wanted for a long time. Although I still play professionally, I do so only on a local level and am home every night to sleep in my own bed. I'm lucky enough to still travel a little, but only to the gigs I choose! It's great to be me!

Our classes are individually tailored to the student. This is the benefit of personal one on one classes. We offer superior drum lessons for children and adults. Whether you are a parent seeking a good drum school for your child or an adult wanting to learn to play the drums yourself, you have come to the right place. Potter’s Wheel Music School offers private, weekly drum lessons in a clean, safe, and fun environment.

Drum lessons take place in a professional recording studio using two acoustic drum sets and choosing from hundreds of sound tracks minus drums to play along with while learning. Lessons include all drums, techniques and musical styles, playing side by side and taking moments to interject at the appropriate time. Soon enough, we will play together through entire tracks and develop flawless habits!

One major advantage of any type of music lessons is that it teaches our kids the basic principle of work = reward. You must make the time to develop skills that later others will admire. It builds great self esteem because they have achieved (through hard work) something that just anyone cannot do. Play an instrument and be cool! Even if they never choose to be a musician as a career, we’ve seen many make extra spending money entertaining people and being well paid and noticed for their efforts rather than a menial task job making minimum wage, while in high school or college. They can make at least $ as much as other teens and young adults on just the weekend, than working a part-time job at the hamburger joint or bookstore all week long! And be the coolest doing it!
