I would highly recommend Pieper Olson veterinary hospital Middletown CT. The entire staff is understanding, reasonable price. The receptionist are sincere, they really go above and beyond making you feel at ease when your animal is hurting. They are not only a receptionist, they should get paid more for being a therapist for the adults in distress about their animal family. It was my first time at this veterinary , it's a hike for me but I will always bring my furry friend to Pieper -Olsen. Thank you TAMMY More...

Wonderful staff that's professional and organized.  Never any issues taking our dog here for the past few years.  Even after moving far away we still trek down to Middletown to get the pleasure of having our dog taken care of by this amazing staff.  This veterinary practice is about the care of our pets NOT about corporate greed and $.  Their prices are extremely reasonable and we are appreciative that their exceptional services are not expensive.  Thank you P.O. for taking such good care of our dog. We love this place. We were sent here by our vet because our dog was diagnosed with lymphoma. Dr Ho the oncologist is wonderful. The prices are decent and they don't run every test in the book unnecessarily so you can focus your dollars on treatment. We also had and emergency visit with him here and the Doctor who saw him was equally wonderful. More...

Not only have I had experience with this animal hospital with a family members pet, but my own as well. They are caring, and treat your pet as they would their own! That's very important for a pet parent! The primary care is great, and the appointments are scheduled quickly and they don't try to sell you things you don't need. They are priced very competitively with a wellness visit only 60$! They have an easy access building and keep animals separate, i.e. dog waiting area & cat waiting area. They also provide a leash for those who For some reason need one. I was very impressed with the overall service & facility. Everyone wss awesome and I'm glad I use them for my fur baby's health needs. More...

Dr. Pieper was my family’s vet in the 60s so I have been taking my pets (I have had both dogs and cats) here for many years, first in Portland, then Middletown, and now in Essex. They have always been wonderful. My cats currently see Dr. Brienza in Essex. She is caring and knowledgeable. The vet techs and staff are always friendly, compassionate and handle my precious cats with care. Dr. Brienza has even had to euthanize one of my old kitties and she and the staff were very kind. My family has moved in and out of the area a few times, so we have used other veterinary practices, but we always return to Pieper-Olson when we can. More...

Quality emergency care in a professional facility - it's not super close to home but outshines the other emergency vets in my neck of the woods. I brought my cat in a few weeks back when my vet referred her for an ultrasound. After looking at some x-rays, my vet thought she had a blockage that required surgery so we needed the ultrasound to confirm one way or the other.Shortly after we arrived and checked in, a vet tech took my cat's vitals to see if it was an urgent situation or if she could stand to wait a little longer, but overall the wait was still less than an hour. We left her overnight to be monitored and treated, and the vet called the next day with results. She does have a chronic condition that needs care but it's not looking like surgery is required any time soon. Glad to have their help and expertise - obviously it's expensive but we're lucky to have pet insurance to significantly defray the cost. More...

This is long review, so I'll get to the punchline--Dr. Jay saved our dog's life. My home vet referred us to Pieper Memorial for an ultrasound for our 12-year-old wheaten terrier, Spumoni, after having a bad Memorial Day weekend that landed us in her office the day after the holiday. With lab results that were all over the place, and a dog with zero energy and no appetite, our vet recommended that we go to Pieper for an ultrasound. There, we were given the grim news that Spumoni had a softball sized tumor on her spleen and something on her liver. The choice was to say goodbye to our dog or have surgery. We knew that Spumoni still had a lot of living to do as she was giving us some bursts of energy, plus, we were not ready to say goodbye. We scheduled a surgery consult with Dr. Jay. She was patient, knowledgeable, listened to our concerns, and answered all of our questions--even from my actuary husband who kept asking the same questions multiple times in a different way. She was confident that Spumoni was a great candidate for surgery. Dr. Jay was ready to take a vacation, so the option was to leave Spumoni there and have the surgery the next morning or wait until after she got back in two weeks. Time was of the essence because Spumoni was a ticking time bomb. We were also concerned because we had a wedding to attend that weekend and were worried about recovery and leaving her with our dog sitter. Our dog sitter is tops, but we weren't sure how Spumoni would handle the recovery. Pieper offers medical boarding--a total lifesaver. We left Spumoni at Pieper and she had the surgery the next morning (on a Wednesday) and we visited her on Thursday and Friday. My husband was traveling and visited her on his way home that Saturday morning before he came home for the wedding. The first day we visited, Spumoni was a bit tired. She was still on medication and I think she was glad to see us, but also glad to see us go home. However, on the subsequent days, her energy really returned and we took her home the Sunday after her surgery. In the meantime, on the day of the surgery, we heard from Dr. Sterman twice, who was absolutely fantastic and Dr. Jay later that evening. Dr. Sterman also called us daily from that point on to give us updates and answer any questions (and this time, I had a LOT). The team at Pieper is tops and it was totally worth the 45-minute drive for us. The best news of all was that the tumor on her spleen and growths on her liver were benign--#unbreakable. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Jay, Dr. Sterman, and the rest of the Pieper team for taking such excellent care of our beloved dog. More...

Had an emergency yesterday with our new baby. We are in the wallingford area so unfortunately we went to the closest place which happens to be Central Hospital in North Haven. We will never go to this emergency service facility again. I took my baby out of there before they could either do more damage or kill him , and brought him to Pieper Olsen in Middletown. There, the Er Dr James Tipton was wonderful. He was calming, knowledgeable and very compassionate towards the awful experience we had been in all day. He made us feel like he truly cared about our baby and it was so refreshing to know that there are still vets out there that are in it for the animal care and not the money like Central Hospital in North Haven...Unfortunately he is an intern but I’m hoping that Pieper Olsen offers him a permanent position. It would be very wise of them to do so. We have 4 babies and I would leave my vet and bring them all to Pieper ( even though it’s out of the way)if he was there. Fantastic guy!!!!!!!! More...

Honestly. For emergency visits at night it’s either a hit or a miss. Some of the night staff and vets are absolutely phenomenal, while others provide little to no information regarding your pet and care and avoid eye contact when you’ve been waiting for 4 hours and really just need an update. My first visit the vet couldn’t even be bothered to check over my cat in the room with me. And at no point did I ever even meet the vet that saw my cat. I was given poor care instructions by the woman who cashed me out and at no point did they ever even go over the issues or wounds with me that my cat had. So basically I brought a wounded and sick cat home and didn’t even know half of his injuries or really how to care for him. All that being said I swore I would never go back. But 4 days later when one of my cats paws was double the size it should be with no improvement — at 10pm at night and hardly able to function. I had no choice but to bring him back. From the woman I spoke to on the phone, to the vet, to the woman who cashed me out. I cannot say enough good things. I met the vet- she looked at my cat. Found several wounds that were never addressed originally. She took care of all of his issues and prescribed a new antibiotic since the original one didn’t seem to get the job done- probably since he had more injuries and wasn’t properly diagnosed the first time. 8 hours of my time and over $500. We will see how he recovers. More...

What a top notch and professionally run facility!! I had never been here before and was referred to an oncologist for confirmation of cancer in my Chihuahua. I arrived early, checked in and was taken in a few minutes ahead of my appointment time. 2 Vet techs came in right away and took his vitals, etc. I was told my Oncologist Dr. DeRegis, DVM, PhD, DACVIM would be in shortly. Within 5 minutes she came in. She was both friendly and pleasant. Dr. Examined my pet and upon visual observation, poking and prodding suggested the tumors may not be cancerous in fact said 80% of these are benign. VERY different opinion from the referring vet who was almost certain they were cancerous based on the rapid spreading and characteristics (hard). They took my dog in back for needle biopsy's and said they'd call me in 1-2 days. I checked out and my fee was EXACTLY as estimated - and I expected a bigger number because of the biopsy ($192). For an Oncologist consult with biopsy that's a reasonable fee in my opinion. I paid and left. On time, within budget, super professional, very well staffed office / facility earns 5 Stars and 4 paws up from this Yelper!   2 days later I got a call that the tumors are benign, just as Dr. suspected, and am scheduling to have them removed here. Excellent overall experience. More...

Fast service in an emergency situation. We walked in with our cat that may have a blockage and was impressed entering on how big and clean this place was.  Dogs everywhere yet very quiet and calm. They have a reception area where they will bring you to be checked in and there is a very nice coffee/tea station to help yourself.  I do recommend pressing the hot beverage button (next to the coffee one) it takes you to a screen for vanilla mochas !! Every employee was nice that we've met . Paperwork was a breeze and we were in a room within 20 minutes or so. The nurse worked quickly to take necessary information (temp/weight) and made our cat comfortable while doing so . The doctor came in and walked us through options . We chose the less expensive one (x-ray/overnight/fluids/ ) costing a whopping 1200.oo upfront. They are very pricey ,but I guess that's what all hospital situations cost right Thank goodness they take the CareCard (pet credit card ) Dr. Landroche was the best !!! More...
