Great pictures, all of our guests liked them as well. Steve was very accommodating with our requests and even delivered the pictures 2 weeks sooner than promised. He was interacting with the guests to have them more involved in the photography. The price charged was the most reasonable we could find. Having Steve at our wedding and celebration was a pleasure. My husband (so cool to say it now) I recently married wanted to do a photo shoot that was different from all the formal/staged poses you typically see in wedding albums.
Steve was so creative and really went out of his way to photograph us and our family that really described what happened but in an artistic manner. The entire day was absolutely wonderful. Even with challenging subjects, like wiggly babies and energetic relatives, he has the eye for the right moment and the personality to make it all go so smoothly. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
We develop a methodology for everything we do so that we can consistently create amazing photography over and over. Throughout the years studying our art, we have compiled characteristics a photo should have in order to make it an amazing image.
If there is one overarching characteristic whose importance precedes that of all the characteristics listed in this article, it’s that every image need to have a purpose. The image has to be captured for a reason, e.g. to show something beautiful, to tell a story, to capture a moment. While it is impossible for an image to have every one of these characteristics, there are some characteristics marked “must have” that every picture should have when possible.
Has A Great Composition
There are many different rules and methods out there for creating great compositions. You have common rules and techniques such as the rule of 3rds and rules of symmetry as well as the not-so-common techniques involving asymmetric compositions using object balancing, leading lines and framing. There will be times when composition needs to be thrown out the window in order to just grab the shot, but where possible, it should always be considered.
Captures Emotion
As human beings we are drawn to emotion. Whether it is something that makes us laugh or cry, emotion is what ties each and everyone of us together. Images showing emotion and timeless moments will always capture one's attention.
Tells A Story
Some of our favorite images do nothing other than tell a story. They may not be great compositions or have anything unique to them other than the fact that they capture history. Some of the best examples of these types of images are found all throughout celebrations and photojournalism. From capturing the photograph of the groom's first look to bride dancing with her father each tell the story of the wedding celebration each tell a story. These images capture and freeze moments for everyone to become a witness.
Leaves Something To The Imagination
We love images that tell stories with something left to the imagination. Everyone knows that the book is always better than the movie, because it allows us to use our imagination to create the most amazing and personalized special effects in our minds. Images that leave something to the imagination tend to do the same thing. They allow us to have just enough information to imagine the rest of the scene.
Captures An Iconic Moment
Iconic moments are moments that are created or modeled after meaningful pop culture. Whether it is a reproduction of a shot from a classic movie, or creating a unique moment based around something trendy, these shots allow the audience to feel emotionally connected to the moment within the imagery.
Juxtapositions Contrasting Concepts
Some of our favorite images juxtapose (compare) completely contrasting objects and concepts. This could be a beautiful bride in a completely white and flowing wedding dress shot in front of a background littered with trash and graffiti. Thus juxtaposing beauty and purity with ugly and uncleanliness.
