Pam is so amazing! While my partner and I had originally intended on only having our newly adopted pup trained, she also offered to train our old, grumpy dog without an additional charge. I had been unsuccessfully trying to train my older dog without a trainer and made little to no progress. He was an anxious and reactive mess before Pam. While he still has some work to go, he's now able to hang out and play with other dogs! For me, it was truly a miracle to see him change so much under Pam's guidance. My younger dog made a lot progress as well. He's learned to a polite and more confident dog.Pam offered several additional training sessions to help our dogs with their reactivity issues. She would meet us at local events or parks to get our dogs used to being out and about with other animals. She also has weekly doggy play dates with all of her past and current clients. The supplemental training we received was so integral to our dogs' improvement.Pam truly loves dogs, and my partner and I are so glad we chose to work with her! More...

3 months ago my husband I rescued a blind cane corso puppy.   Having never owned a dog her size and/or a blind dog we were nervous.   Pam made training her simple,  easy,  a breeze.   Pam is helpful,  informative,  responds to texts and/or calls quickly as needed with great advice in between training sessions,  is just amazing.   Dolly,  our puppy, is now the delight of our lives.  She goes everywhere with us and gets complimented continually for her awesome behavior as well as her delightful personality that remains; Pam deserves a huge portion of the credit. I have seen exceptionally well trained dogs whose personality has been trained ot of them.  I told Pam that wasn't what we wanted.   She listened and helped us achieve the goal.  And yet she also helped us to teach Dolly all of the necessary commands for her blindness,  like how to get in and out of a car on her own,  all of her walk commands like heel, forward,  right,  left,  step,  etc.,  even how to fetch a ball.   Not only did Pam help teach her some of these during her 6 weeks with her,  but she gave us the skills to be able to continue teaching her commands as they're now needed. In addition Pam is exceptionally helpful answering any questions about about health issues, food and treat choices,  etc.Just can't say enough great things about her ... thank you Pam; thank you Pawsative Training! Oh gosh, I can't believe I haven't written a review yet! We LOVE Pam! She has worked with us and both of our Bernese mountain dogs since they were just 8 weeks old each. She is very in tune with animals and has such a calm reassuring but authoritative demeanor. Pam has not only been a wonderful trainer, but a great friend. She has been there every single time we've needed help or advice as first time dog owners. My favorite part is that I agree with her method that dogs do not need to be soldiers, they can be well trained and still happy and full of personality. We very much liked the positive reinforcement training techniques and still like to pop in to the socialization classes she offers for past/current clients. Having two dogs that are at and above 100 pounds each it's important that we have a good communication system and bond with them and Pam helped us make sure that was the case! She's extremely knowledgeable as well, we can't thank her enough! More...

I LOVE Pam, she is so great with my Italian Greyhound that many trainers have took the money yet told me the breed is untrainable.   No refund yet enforced shock collar .. NightmaresAnyways, after many unsuccessful lessons and all the money to the drained.  I gave up, but time healed the fear eventually.   After couple years, I decided to yelp trainers again.  I was so cautious, I even messaged the people who left reviews and made sure those reviews are real.   Pam doesnt really use treat and NO shock collar.  She just knows dogs.  The surprise part is my dog loves his training sessions. We had a wonderful experience with Pam. She worked with our dog on everything we requested from leash obedience to meet n greet with other dogs. We loved doing it at Bass Pro whole since distractions are a big thing with our dog. All in all I would completely recommend Pam and use her again when needed!!! More...

I really can't say enough good things about Pamela and her training methods. I brought my shelter dog, Kiki, in after having her for a month. While I'm not 100 percent sure what Kiki's past was, I know it was a rough one and Pamela was able to identify this immediately as well. I was genuinely counting down the minutes until I could have Kiki trained. While she is an amazing dog, she had become a little "too" comfortable in my house, and was using my furniture as her toilet, barking at anything that moved and went wild at the sight of another dog. When I brought her in for the evaluation at Bass Pro Shops, I was mortified because Kiki went absolutely NUTS at the site of all the dogs and people. Pamela came over and put a slip lead leash on Kiki (my new favorite training device) and suddenly it was like she was a different dog. She was so well behaved and gentle. Pamela gave us a two hour evaluation, and after that, Kiki was a changed canine. Even when I brought her back the next week (I couldn't sign up fast enough), all of the Bass Pro employees who remembered her unruly behavior couldn't believe how fast she had turned around! Pamela genuinely loves animals and what initially attracted me to use her services is that she said she'd never turn a dog away. I've now referred her to several of my friends and I'm excited to continue training with her and Kiki! More...

Ms. Pamela is the queen of dog trainers. You can tell that she really has a passion and love for animals. My dog Charlie is super smart and she's very good at running the show. It became apparent to me that I needed a trainer because Charlie had something called "Only Doggy Syndrome." Of course, she couldn't share or be in the same area as another dog with food or she would snap! Ms. Pamela is patient and kind, within the 1st lesson I already saw the difference my dog. Listening to basic commands and really taking to Ms. Pamela. I look forward to the next six weeks and teaching my dog new commands! More...

Pam did incredible work with our toddler daughter, poodle mix and Rottweiler. There was a struggle for dominance in the house with the new high energy toddler and Pam really helped teach the dogs that our daughter was in control. I highly recommend Pam to train your dogs to the be best they can be. More...

We found Pam on yelp about 6 months or so after we adopted a little 4 lbs chihuahua named Elvie. He loves riding in cars and he loves his parents but as chihuahuas are protective if any one ever came close he would bark and snarl. We decided to move to Nepal and I worried about taking him on the plane. I didnt want to get kicked off because people were scared. Also when we adopted him his foster mother said that he was a good house dog but don't plan on taking him to the dog park because he doesn't play well with others. After Pam he runs around with all the other pups.So we paid for one on one training with Pam and it was the best decision ever. She was so kind and patient. He warmed up to her pretty quick and you could tell he looked forward to trying days. He would bite at any one who would run near him or too sudden of a movement. Not any more. In Nepal we live inside a private school for KG to 12th grade and he just runs around letting people pet him and even some pick him up. She has really done a fantastic job giving him confidence and helping him to be able to relax and not be on high alert all the time. We really loved our time with Pam. I am going to try to schedule a follow up with her when we get back to the states in September. It would be nice when we play fetch that he bring the ball back instead of running off and hiding it.I would recommend her for all things puppy 10 out of 10 times. More...

I found Pam through google / yelp shortly after I adopted a puppy who came to me afraid of everything. Admittedly I needed the training just as much as the puppy! Pam worked with us one on one to learn basic commands and gave me lots of advice on local places to go to help socialize her. Pam was very accommodating with scheduling and very helpful with questions outside of class.I just started agility training with my pup and she was able to pick up very easily on a lot of the basics because of everything Pam taught us. I'm very happy I found Paws-a-tive training!! More...

We are so happy that we found Pam and Paws-a-tive dog training! Our 1 year old mini golden doodle is a smart cookie but has his "areas of improvement" . Pam taught us how to work with him and his specific personality and is becoming a more social, obedient, but still fun loving dog. We've met a few of her other trainees already and all of them always brag on how far their dog has come. I'm definitely a believer! Her years of experience and expertise shows and can work with any dog (small, big, young, old, fiesty, stubborn, lazy, crazy, lol you name it!) Pam's unconditional love and devotion to see my dog (and all dogs) to succeed is what will keep me coming back and spreading the word. Prices are reasonable and training is tailored to you and your dogs needs. I highly recommend! More...

Let's talk facts!  My 7-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Patricia Elizabeth (Patty), is the most important and beloved an treasure in my life.  Saying that, Patty had a few behavior issues that needed to be corrected.  If she didn't get her way she would snap at me, ignore my commands, didn't get along with other dogs; displayed non-social behavior.Realizing she needed professional training, I did my due diligence in locating the right dog trainer for my little sweetie.  The criteria I used in selecting a trainer was:  One-on-one private training sessions, instinctively knew what training my Patty required to become responsive and obedient, as well as, the training I needed required to handle all situations that came up.   When I met Pam Watson, the owner and trainer of Paws-A-Tive Dog Training, there was no doubt in my mind that I had found a trainer who truly loves and understands dogs...a "Dog Whisperer"!During the six (6) week course, it was remarkable how much Patty's behavior completely changed.  She became my "Pretty - Perfect - Princess Patty"!Patty loves Pam and "going to school" so I decided to continue with her lessons and have her certified as a "Service Dog" for my use.  She is so great as a Service Dog and provides me the aid I need wherever I go.I hope my review was helpful and if you are interested in a trainer for your dog, at least give Pam a call...you won't be sorry!!! Cannot say enough great things about Pam's puppy/dog obedience training abilities. She never hesitates to assist and went above and beyond to help us out with our puppy. Just after 2 training sessions, I can honestly say our puppy is doing great and has made a tremendous improvement. She helped us work out some problems we were having and we could not be happier. She is super patient, compassionate, and will answer every single question you have to help you. She not only teaches the dog, but teaches you how to teach your dog. Pam has options for everybody out there and she is absolutely super reasonable. Compared to some other quotes I got for training from other companies, she was a god send. I can't praise this trainer enough.  We rescued our shepherd mix at the end of 2013 after much planning and researching about the breed.  The rescue offered free training with every adoption but the business they used did not have any classes scheduled for a few months after the fact.  To be honest we were ready to pull out our hair while waiting for the included training. As much as we loved our new dog, he would not listen to anyone for anything, had some fear issues from his past, and walking was a constant battle.  My husband and I happened to walk into the store where Paws-A-Tive holds classes and were unnerved by a class going on where owners were walking their dogs through the store without any issue or sounds!  We got the phone number, called the next day, and spoke with the trainer, Pam, who listened to ALL our concerns and scheduled a free evaluation. After literally ONE class, our boy was walking nicely on the leash and could sit!  After finishing the  6 week class, our rescue was a model citizen, happy and well adjusted.  With Pam we learned how to be strong leaders so our dog would willingly follow us and the importance of patience, consistency, and doing your homework!  Almost two years later and he is training to be a service dog. If you're looking for a trainer who will listen to your concerns, genuinely loves animals, does not condone abuse in any way for training, and will help you have the confidence to be the leader your dog deserves, call Pam, she will be you and your dog's lifesaver..and really, you have nothing to lose, except the love/hate relationship you and your dog are having right now ;) More...
