This place flipped my life upside down in the most amazing way possible. I have found some of the best friends a person can ask for. I have found an activity my whole family enjoys doing together. I spent years wanting to give BJJ a try but never followed through. When I decided that I didn't want to push it off anymore I started contacting academies in the area. Within a few minutes of my initial contact via the website, Professor Joey responded via text. Right then I knew I had to check this place out. I went in for a trial class, and I was hooked. Everyone was welcoming and extremely helpful. Here I am just over a year later, and joining The Paradigm Academy is easily one of the best decisions I've ever made. Professor Joey pushes us to be better everyday, not just on the mats but in life outside of jiu jitsu. I've made friends that I consider family. Signing up at the Paradigm Academy has been one of the best things I've ever done for myself. To start, the academy itself is top notch. Everything is done with intention, from the daily cleaning methods in place that keep the facility in pristine condition, resources available when you're in a pinch (tape, toiletries/a shower etc), to a class schedule that works with schedules of all kinds and everything in between. The gear is high quality and looks amazing as well as the social media pages that truly capture the energy of the Paradigm Family. Professor Joey and Corina are intentional in all they do as well. I have tried many different gyms in search of a workout I was going to fall in love with but found much more here. Joey, Corina and the entire team greet me with a smile when I'm ready to rock and roll and push me out of my comfort zone when I'm not. There have been a dozen times where I had given up on myself but was solely able to power through because of the people I was surrounded by there. You will be encouraged to work hard, pushed when you need to be, disciplined, humbled... all while having so much fun. The things I have learned about not only BJJ but myself are PRICELESS. From things like learning to believe in myself and discipline myself (in many ways) to feeling more confident in things as simple as walking to my car by myself at night. I didn't just join a Jiu-Jitsu gym when i joined Paradigm , i joined a family. Everyone here is helpful and supportive no matter where you are in your journey. I've only been training for 6 month but ive learned so much in that time. I've learned respect, a deeper respect for others and the hard work they put in to get to where they are. I've learned that i am a lot more resilient than i ever gave myself credit for and i've learned that you get back what you put into it . I've shopped around many martial arts facilities in my lifetime. Cleanliness and Safety are done well here. The instructors keep an eye on you while training is conducted and does a very good job explaining techniques and how to properly accomplish them. Just be normal and you'll do fine here. í have been training NoGi for almost 1 year and my son had been showing more and more interest in it the more í trained, so the plan was to sign him up for his upcoming birthday back in July, but since he was too young to train at my current gym my wife and í were referred to Paradigm Academy by a close friend, the plan was to take him to his 1 free session to see if it's something he still wanted to do, so we get there, he puts on his Gi, and professor Joey asked me if I've ever trained in Gi and then asked me if í wanted to try, and of course í said yes, after my 1st session there i felt í love with the place/environment, it was like one class mate calls it "my happy place", and to be able to train along side my son is a plus. Been training along side other since. Now to my list of family goals í have added "To get anyone of age to train by next summer". I don't think I could ever say enough about this team. Everyone is so humble and eager to make each other better. Higher belts help teach lower belts. People meet up for extra rolls before and after class. Some talk all day and roll all night. It's a true comradery and family. Professors Joey and Oscar are great teachers breaking down technical moves to the level needed. My wife started going a couple of months ago and had been trying to get me to go in. I was already at another boxing gym and was happy there. Professor Joey sent me a note and asked me to come try one class. I figured what could it hurt I will try it. You walk in to immaculate mats and great energy. You are blasted in the face with heat and hand shakes. After some assistance with my gi I was on the mat getting instruction from Professor along with a myriad of purple belts. The amount of encouragement and hard work was enough to hook me. I have been going for a couple of weeks now and it feels less like a gym and more like a family. For many years my brother has tried to tell me the beauty behind Jiu Jitsu both in art form and in philosophy. I would always shrug it off as another thing in my life that I would never be able to commit myself to doing. I was never good at sports regardless of my size and would spend most of my days binge watching movies, going out to drink and trying to find ways to waste time until the morning came and I had to go back to work. I was scrolling through my newsfeed and noticed one of my friends had been wearing a white kimono and he was smiling.
