My girlfriends took me here to celebrate my 2019 birthday. I don't know why this place isn't talked about enough in the South Bay because it was certainly my first visit. It's tucked in the beautiful hills of Fremont so it's pretty accessible regardless of which side of the Bay you drive in from. When we arrived, we were quickly greeted and escorted to our reserved table in the back which was perfect for privacy. Our server was the owner's daughter (Channah) and she was the most sweetest, efficient, and attentive person I have seen in the industry for a while. All of the food we ordered not only tasted delicious but was beautifully crafted with absolute love and care. We found out later that the head chef also co-owns the restaurant. The owner came out to personally greet all of his guests at each table which was a very personable touch. You really get the "family" feel when visiting this restaurant.Since we were there celebrating two birthdays, Channah went above and beyond and gifted us some special desserts. Check out the photos attached to this review for a sneak peak of what these fine folks offer at their family oriented restaurant!Looking forward to returning! More...

Whatever you do, please order take out and support this business. I'm hardly ever compelled to write reviews, but the food I picked up today was absolutely amazing. Spending mine and my boyfriends 4th anniversary in a pandemic, Papillon seriously made our day with this meal. I ordered the duck pâté, mushroom ravioli, and crab cakes as appetizers; I ordered the duck, short rib and ribeye with garlic mushrooms as entree's, and had to get the brown sugar cremé brûlée as dessert. Let me tell you I was not disappointed. Everything tasted fresh, and was hot when I picked it up, and honestly that's super hard for take out let's be real. They really exceeded mine and my boyfriends expectations, and I thank them for making this anniversary a memorable one. I know where I'm going once we're allowed to dine in restaurants again. More...

During the SIP, we miss Papillon and have been fortunate to be able to order food to go at a super affordable price when you call in and pick up your order! #ThankYouThursday is a great reminder that it's not just food that I miss, love seeing Charlie, Nitra, Ellen and the staff - interaction and time when you're there enjoying a wonderful meal is sorely missed. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to come by and say hello briefly....I really miss your house salad and bread!!! More...

The soup packed with lots of onions cheese and bread top perfectly with a puff pastry to tie it all together. Absolutely delicious. More...

Ambience- 5 starService- 5 star So beautiful next to plants. Love authentic look and pictures on a walls. Lots of history and very welcoming and treat you like a family. Biggest wine list in this area by bottle. Great variety. By glass not bad either, comparing that in Fremont we dont have restaurants like this or nie wine bars( at least as far as i know) Food is good, but not for the price. Price should definently match food quality. ( at least for steaks and meat) But overall its a very unique and warm sweet place! Compared to any Fremont spots i would say very romantic, celan, restaurant for celebrations, dates and special occassions. More...

I've always driven passed this place but never bothered to check it out till today. Very friends staff. Their table bread was served room temp but it was super delicious. Not sure what kind of bread it was but I could if just sat there and ate just that. We started off with lobster ravioli. It was hella bomb. Whatever sauce they had it swimming it was so good. Even better when you dipped the bread in it.For my main I had the Kobe Short Rib dish. The rib was sooo tender, the sauce it came with complemented so well. The mashed potatoes were stand alone good as well. My wife enjoyed the seafood Wellington fish. She said it was so flavorful and the sauce that came with it was the exact same sauce the lobster ravioli had. So it was super amazing. I'm going to take my best friend here once we can make the time to come back. Thank you so much! More...

Very old school and honestly a little outdated but the food was delicious and the service was good!FOODBrussel Sprouts: very tasty! You really can't go wrong with Brussels thoughSeafood Wellington: my husband ordered this and he really enjoyed it but this one wasn't my favorite. I will say that it was really packed with seafood though!Wild Caught Sole: my dish! Really tender and well cooked. I loved it!Scalone Almandine: one of the specials for that day. It wasn't what we were expecting (it's a "cake" of abalone and scallops?) but we really enjoyed it. Grand Mariner Soufflé: very standard soufflé. I will say it wasn't the best I've ever had but it wasn't bad by any means. I was really looking forward to to the Crepes Suzettes but I guess the chef that prepares this wasn't working that day. Disappointing.. but we'll just have to come back another time for that!Overall, the whole experience was what you'd expect from an old school French restaurant. If you're looking for modern food and ambiance, then this is not the place for you! But if you're looking for some traditional French food or a fun flambé, then I would recommend it! More...

I don't know why I only come here on my anniversary. I absolutely love this restaurant. The maître d' and the wait staff are phenomenal. Every time I walk through the doors I feel like I took a step back in time to an era when going out to dinner was a rare treat. The attention we received from start to finish is always 1st class. The food is amazing. We started with the crab cakes DELICIOUS. Moved on to the Seafood Wellington at the suggestion of our very attentive waiter. It did not disappoint my palette. He then recommended the chocolate mousee (Made in house) for dessert, it was light, fluffy chocolate goodness. Great way to end our meal. Also keep in mind they have a top notch wine list along with cocktails and beers. Don't wait for a special occasion to visit here. Make it a point to stop by for any reason and definitely make it your date night destination. Last but not least I strongly recommend you make reservations. When you arrive say hi to Charlie.... Went to this restaurant yesterday for my birthday. Service was very good, as was the food. My husband had the tempura calamari and I had the coconut prawns. Both starter dishes were very good. We both ordered the beef wellington which came with a choice of soup or salad. We both chose the salads; mine was the Ceasar and his was the House. Both were excellent. The beef wellington had a prox. 2" thick filet that was very tender. I was surprised that it was not stuffed with a mushroom mixture, but was instead set on top of a mushroom sauce. It was a very nice presentation in a puff pastry with small potato cuts, carrots and green beans to accompany the signature dish. We really wanted to try one of their desserts, but were both just too full! They did bring out a nice dessert plate that said Happy Birthday as the finishing touch to a great meal. Overall, everything was much to our liking. Service was very good and I thought pricing was in line for what we received. More...

came here with family for a christmas eve dinner. the location is a little random and i would not be surprised if it used to be two houses converted to a restaurant. parking can be tight. the menu is expansive and the portions are giant. this isn't one of those french restaurants with minuscule portions. lots of things from lots of beef dishes, escargot, duck, seafood, etc. i had the ribeye. huge portion. great sauce and steak fries. my one gripe would be that my particular cut had a lot of tendons in them so some parts were unchewable. i would have liked a higher heat on the outside for a better sear but it isn't a steakhouse so maybe the french do it differently. desserts were great and lots of variety. i think there were at least a dozen choices. i was stuffed so stuck to fresh berries. very solid place. might do something other than the ribeye next time. service was good without being obtrusive. Went here for dinner. From the outside, it looks a little interesting. We asked ourselves, is this the place. The inside does smell of age. The setup was nice and quiet. Ordered the Prime Filet Mignon, Rack of Lamb and the chicken pasta. The salad that came with the meal was really good. The vegetables seemed fresh and had a really nice light sauce that didn't overpower or over sweeten the deal. It was between a salad and corn soup. The Prime Filet Mignon was excellent. Tender, tasty, and back to the sauce, very nice touch. I personally dislike sauces that drown the main items on the dish. Highly recommend. The lamb was OK. The lamb itself has some issues (judging as a high end restaurant). I personally would not order this again. The pasta was also OK. The pasta itself was a bit over cooked (soggy-ness factor). The Cabernet we picked was excellent (Arrowood, Sonoma). Went really well with the food. The service was really friendly and attentive. The service does shine over the food.If I were to return, I will repeat the filet Mignon and the same red. More...
