Last September at the age of 70 I signed up for semi-private training sessions with Jeremy. I did this because one, I wanted to feel and be physically stronger and two, I wanted a more toned body. I am thrilled to say that I am achieving both of my goals. Thanks to Jeremy's skillful training progression focused on my unique needs, I am definitely stronger, have toned muscles and am losing the tummy fat that I have carried all my life! I also have a serious case of pride in the progress I have made. Jeremy has steadily and sometimes strongly encouraged me to do more than I think I can. He's always been right. He has an engaging personality and the atmosphere in the gym is upbeat and friendly. I'm still going strong (pun intended). Join me. More...

I was looking for something other than than the impersonal Crossfit box & was very happy to have found Optimum Movement & Performance.  I knew after my 45 minute assessment that Coach Stone was a pro & knew his stuff - I signed up then and there for 6 months of semi-personal training.Guided by his attentive supervision during my morning workouts, I gained skill, knowledge and strength.  Most importantly, I did not get injured, which was my fear in joining a Crossfit program (isn't it crazy to think you can just jump in and start doing 60 of anything, properly?).  Coach Stone has a wealth of knowledge and experience and set me up for a solid foundation in body movement, awareness and training.  I've since moved on to a power lifting program elsewhere, but OM&P was the foundation to my body evolution and mental fortitude. One of the things I loved most about OM&P is that his awesome dog, Sheba, is a fixture in the gym and adds a positive energy to the experience - she's an excellent doggo who loves a good workout herself, playing endless fetch!Remember the slogan on the wall of the gym here, which reads "Motivation is what gets you started.  Habit is what keeps you going." -- you get out of it, what you put in.  If you're motivated to make a change & able to develop the habit to keep going (and want a good alternative to Crossfit), I recommend Optimum Movement & Performance. Love how he designs monthly programs and I can feel myself getting stronger by the end of each month. He always pushes me just the right amount out of my comfort zone. And it's the best mix of having access to a trainer and being independent. The gym is a great mix of people and levels, very welcoming! A wonderful place to get fit! More...

I came here grossly out of shape and knowing it was time for a change.  Scratch that, I came here in a definite shape: round, and knowing it was time for a change. I was super hesitant to go to a gym and be judged, but when I first sat down with Stone for my consult, I knew quickly that this guy knew his stuff, would meet me where I was at, and push me to be better - and was sold.I love that the workouts are semi-personal: Stone spends the time to build and cater a workout to you, show you how to do it, and to tweak as necessary. The gym environment is AWESOME - filled with great people, of all abilities, all getting it done and being completely supportive of one another.I actually referred a gal-pal of mine to work out with Stone. She'd been hit by a car and was having all sorts of issues and wanted to work up her overall strength.  True to Stone being able to meet folks where they are at, he's worked with her and around her challenges to get her strong. As for me: fast forward 8 months and I'm in a shape that's not round!  I've got bu** cheeks that make me very happy (except on squat days), and I wake up looking forward to gym days.If you're looking for a trainer that rocks and a super genuine and supportive environment, def check out OMP! When I'm depending on someone to keep me accountable, I need to respect them and see that they practice what they preach. I need direction, consistency, and challenge . I need to feel like letting them down is not an option - otherwise, I'm going to drift away...Stone is incredibly direct. He calls me out on my excuses, gets me out of my head when I'm stuck there, encourages me to push my limits, and never sets me up to fail. I have not had a day in the last 5 years where some muscle somewhere on my body doesn't ache. Stone individualizes the workout to meet your goals. He takes note of each client's issues, weaknesses, and challenges, and designs personalized workouts to address these. Since I have been working with him, my body has transformed. There are tons of reasons I've continued to work with Stone for these past 5 years, accountability is just one. His place is clean, he keeps reinvesting in his gym, in his own skills, attracts amazing clients, and has an awesome space where this all takes place. He is responsive and flexible, is professional and personable. But really what it boils down to is that Stone has integrity. And decency, principles, and incorruptibility are pretty rare these days, so when I find that, I'm going to support it and show up. More...

Commitment scares me but working out at OMP is the one thing I'll gladly commit to.I wish I joined earlier cause damn, having Stone as a trainer is a straight game changer. He's taught me so much about strength training and how to do it with proper form, which has made ALL the difference. I love that the workouts he plans are challenging yet doable, all while being customized to my personal goals and capabilities. I could probably go on for days about why I like it here so much but here are the top points: - Stone is a great dude and truly cares about the quality of your workout.- Semi-private sessions have the perfect balance because I get the individualized training from Stone but in a group setting, which makes me feel less intimidated.- Friendly people, vibes are always good and non-judgmental. Sheba's also the cutest.- The hard work pays off. I never thought people would be complimenting my body but OMP made that miracle happen. - Being able to say you have a personal trainer just kinda makes you feel like the shit.I would encourage anyone to at least do a fitness assessment here - you'll see real quick how much knowledge Stone has to offer. Just a few months ago, I could barely pick up a bag of groceries without struggling and now I'm only getting stronger and stronger. So big thanks to OMP for getting my health and fitness in check! Facility - nice and clean. Bathroom and showers available. They have a filtered water station and a storage area for your stuff. Location - easy to access in a central part of town.  I was concerned about my car but there always seems to be street parking available.People - very inspiring. Mostly women. Almost everyone I've met has been going to this studio for a couple of years (or more). Everyone is friendly and nonjudgmental. I often stop and stare at how incredible everyone is at working out. Some of the exercises they do don't seem humanly possible. Trainer (Stone) - he is super knowledgeable and finds creative ways to explain exercises that make sense. He has a huge catalog of workouts and always keeps it exciting. He tends to build upon workouts and will challenge you and push you to do stuff you didn't know you were capable of doing. I am very grateful for Stone and have learned a lot these past months. He taught me my first squat...and deadlift....and RDL....basically everything!!! Great trainer for beginners because he is patient and motivating.  Hours - this was the most challenging part for me since I don't work in the east bay and it can be difficult to train after work. However, I just go on the weekends instead. Make sure the available business hours work for you beforehand. Overall it's a wonderful space with wonderful people and you won't regret joining. More...

I have gone down 4 dress sizes (in 9 months) since starting with Stone at OMP! I wish I could give OMP more stars! I owe a lot more than words can describe to the amazing trainer, Stone and OMP gym. Stone's commitment level is very high and his advanced certifications back it up. The vibe and results are the parts that keeps me coming back 3 - 4 times per week, and something that can only be experienced. Everyone is there for a great work out and enjoyable atmosphere without the typical gym drama. Stone will work with your schedule, and is very flexible, and understanding about life's hiccups. Athletics have always been part of my life. I could usually maintain a normal healthy look, and relied on cardio to maintain my weight. After I turned 40, things definitely slowed down and while my weight could fluctuate, my shape never changed. All the cardio wasn't doing it for me anymore and my body was telling me that it needed more muscle and strength. Once I began training with Stone, not only did the weight come off, but I was able to reshape my body. I am stronger than I have ever been and enjoy the qualities that come with it. The physical strength allows me to ski multiple days in a row, move faster, play on the floor with my kids, and gives me the energy to keep up with daily life on a higher level. I look younger and feel it too since the core work has improved my posture and agility.  I have semi-private sessions with Stone which means I save money while still having a personalized workout at every visit under his general supervision. He keeps a watchful eye on his clients while they are training and doesn't miss a beat. With his guidance on correct alignment, I had to re-learn about 80% of what I thought I knew from my past mixed bag of classes, coaches, trainers and bootcamps. The workouts are exciting as Stone continues to build on your workouts, and you never feel like it's getting dull. You will get everything from traditional workouts, to plyometrics, TRX, cross fit, HiiT and etc. all perfectly formulated just for you. I have recommended this gym to everyone I know. If you are looking forward to getting stronger and fit, this is the place for you. More...

I've been a fitness instructor for the past 20 years and have worked with a few personal trainers (yes, I need accountability, too) but none quite like Stone!  I started with Stone almost a year ago and I couldn't be happier with my workouts and the results!  His creative, challenging AND safe workouts are what first come to mind and keep me coming back 3 times per week (I wish I had time to come more often - I would!)Stone knows how to push you to go further than what you thought possible, which is both rewarding and inspiring.  A single word or two of encouragement mean a lot when coming from him.And when you need a little extra encouragement, Sheba (THE sweetest dog ever -- and that says a lot coming from someone with two dogs of her own!) is right there for you with a quick distraction (between sets/exercises) encouraging you to throw a ball, running back and forth with you during those sled pushes, giving you an extra nudge to do one more push-up or smiling at you when you arrive and kissing you in excitement because of your accomplishments -- I swear she knows!!!In addition to Stone and Sheba, the people that workout at OMP are all super welcoming and encouraging.  I love that everyone has different levels of experience and strength, yet we all come together for the ultimate goal of strength and good health.  It feels like a true community at OMP.Stone has a great staff on board, too, including other trainers and specialists to help when needed.  He's referred me to an awesome naturopath and massage therapist who've all helped in my transformation both physically and mentally.I used to hate being pushed out of my comfort zone in the weight room (give me a spin class any day!) but now I embrace the challenges of lifting heavy and the opportunity to get comfortable being uncomfortable!I honestly can't imagine my life without OMP, Stone, and Sheba in it!!Come find out for yourself what I'm talking about! I work with Cassandra on Thursdays (she's great, by the way), so I haven't had an opportunity to meet the fabled Stone yet, but I am so in love with the space he put together. The gym itself is spacious, clean and is a fitness nerd's dream when it comes to equipment. They have a TRX cage, an amazing lifting space, kettle bells, free weights, and cables in addition to a bunch of newfangled doohickeys and thingamabobs that I couldn't even begin to identify, but that have kicked my butt when I use them in my workouts. And Cassandra! What a great trainer and body worker. She's so empathetic and intuitive, even on my rough inflammation and migraine days, she manages to coax a great workout out of me. Her focus on form when it comes to heavy lifting is phenomenal. She has an eye for movement, and is always coming up with creative ways to accommodate my aches and pains, while still helping me drive towards my fitness goals. In addition to being a great trainer, who's clearly gone to great lengths to hone her craft, she's also a body worker. So, when I come in with muscle pain, or my neck is locked up, she just puts me on the table (because there's a body work room!), and works it out so that we can get back to getting our fitness on.Finally, this review wouldn't be complete without giving a five star mention to the dogs. It would seem that all the trainers bring their doggies to assist the workouts. Which is brilliant, if you ask me. Cassandra has the greatest pup out there and she gets to come work out with us. Whether she's cuddling you between sets, greeting you with her sunshine face, or tearing around the gym like a big goof, that dog rounds out this outstanding experience. I couldn't dream up a better workout buddy. And when the workout is over, I am sweating, happy, and have had all the doggy love I can take. More...

Back in the early nineties, I dedicated my life to rock climbing and all things associated with it, including fitness training.  I had a whole routine consisting of pull-ups off of fingerboards, dips, push-up, leg lifts, as well as flexibility and endurance training to hold myself on challenging, and often wildly overhanging cliffs.  Now some twenty years later, with a very busy life and two young kids in the house, I had let my workouts and self-care laps, which had left me feeling overly anxious mentally and low energy physically.  Thankfully, though, I've met Stone and have had him as an integral part of my life and my well being.  Stone is not only in incredible shape, he has an amazing presence that is wise, energized, and grounded.  His love of working out and his dedication to motivating other to do the same stems from a remarkable story when he was a child:  He told me once that when he was young, he was hit by a car, dragged beneath it, had to have other bystanders lift it off of him, and thought that he might never walk again.  Recently Stone taught me how to do push-ups in a way that worked my entire body and didn't have me collapse around my lower back.  My ego didn't like being able to do as many reps as I once did.  But Stone assured me that in the long run, I would be benefiting way more.   I can't recommend Stone enough as a trainer and as a person.  Having faced a the possibility of not having his full capacities at a very young age, he doesn't take any of what we have for granted.  Working out with him becomes a sacred celebration of life itself.  Thanks Stone!
