There are a few things I feel that make the heart of a great MMA gym:1) Experienced Coaches who love what they do (Teaching you! )2) The sense of camaraderie that comes with humble participants who train together. And..3) A positive atmosphere where all are welcome! This is how I would describe Northshore MMA.I encourage anyone looking to sharpen their mind, body, and spirit through combat sports to give this gym a try. I moved to Washington a couple years ago and I wanted to find a boxing gym to keep fit in the off season. This gym is very welcoming and everyone there is very friendly. Coach Joe got me into an orientation session right away and was very helpful. Coach Mathias is an excellent teacher and helped everyone in the classes. This gym is for everyone, beginners and experienced boxers. If you're looking to get in or stay in shape, I would definitely recommend this gym! More...

Joe and Mathias are incredible coaches.  They motivate, inspire and are dedicated to their craft.  I lost 20 lbs, am learning technique and got shredded in the process from their teachings. This place is the real deal.  Amazing people all around. More...

2 years ago my husband and two little ones made the move to Washington from Sunny South Florida. Coming to the west coast was a difficult adjustment for us as adults and we wanted our son (6 years old at the time) to get more acquainted with other kids his age, through sports. We chose NSMMA for Brazilian jiu jitsu, and it's a decision we have not regretted. Our son is 8 years old now, he continues to train and has now competed in his first BJJ tournament. This is not just a 'gym' this has become a second home for us, where I can honestly see my son's growth in regards to discipline, stamina, and courage to just try new things and meet new people. Thank you Coach Joe for making us feel welcome, for always caring for all the kids and pushing them to be better and believe in themselves! More...

My son and daughter have attended Northshore MMA for over 2 1/2 years now. Coach Joe and his daughters have provided not only excellent and practical instruction for them in jujitsu, but they have been a shining example on the importance of family and what it means to be a good friend and team mate. Coach Joe connects individually with each and every child in class and truly cares about every one of them. He is honest with the kids and has us parent observers laughing every single class with his "real talk"! I am confident that my kids are safe and can and will protect themselves if necessary with the skills they have learned in his classes. Jujitsu has built their confidence and given them each a stronger voice in life. More...

After years of doing nothing and gaining weight, I finally got motivated to pick up a sport, and I remembered boxing being great exercise and good fun. Some Google searching led me to Northshore MMA, and they had exactly what I was looking for. Coach Joe invited me in to watch a class and participate in the beginning boxing course, and Coach Mathias got me moving and sweating like I haven't done in almost five years.I'm into the beginning course, and I'm impressed by the welcoming spirit of this place. Everyone knows those gyms where us fat guys get the stink eye from the ultra fit regulars; Northshore MMA is NOT one of those places. I'm excited to exercise like I haven't been in years. More...

I have been training here since November 2016, and the experience has changed my life. The owners and coaches are phenomenal, patient, articulate and knowledgeable. Coaches become your mentors. Fellow students become teammates and great friends. I never thought I would be capable of doing the things I'm doing now: boxing, kickboxing, Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. My physical capabilities have changed drastically in 10 months. I've lost over 35 lbs. I've found it has also changed my emotional state. I'm less anxious and able to tackle stressful situations more easily. I have so much to learn and am very confident that this gym is the place to study and grow. Even if you have never trained striking or martial arts, there is a place for you here. More...

My two boys have been COGA students for just about 8 months now.  Previous to this, they took two years of muay thai kickboxing.  The kids COGA program is great - my boys are having a lot more fun here.  We like the variety included in a single monthly tuition fee.  They get a good fitness workout, keep up with their boxing skills and learn wrestling and jiu jitsu.  They are active boys who get worked hard and sweat but still have a lot of FUN in class.  They look forward to learning new things, testing their strength and abilities and wrestling with their class friends.I've looked into other martial arts schools in the area and none offer the same value.  The tuition cost is very reasonable for such a variety of training.  There is also a sibling discount offered.  This school does not require any contracts or time commitments which was a refreshing change from other schools' policies.I've been really pleased with owner Coach Joe and his assistants.  Joe is a low key and extremely down to earth guy.  You will not get any hard sales pitch from him.  Come in to view the kids class in progress, Coach Joe offers trial classes so you and your child can have first hand knowledge of what the program is about.  There are a number of girls in the program, too, which is great!    I have a 4 year old daughter who I plan to have in the class once she is old enough to participate. I've been involved with COGA for a few years now, and Im completely loyal to the place. Prior to training here, I had some wonderful training experiences at C3, ISMMA, MKG, and other gyms. The difference here is the community-centric sort of atmosphere. Everyone seems to be really close knit (which probably stems from Head Coach "Bazooka" Joe being a family man), and it just makes for a great environment to train and have fun.Features:-2 separate training floors-Tons of full length heavy bags for Kickboxing/boxing-Great coaching staff representing a variety of styles-Variety in experience of the students. If you are a pro fighter or a first-timer, you wont feel out of place here.-Very cool logo/branded merchandise-Inexpensive compared to many other MMA gymsThe guys here are always welcoming. Even if you are just looking for a fun way to get in shape where you progressive can see yourself getting better at something, this is the place to be. The school is always welcoming. Stop in and say hi! More...

I've been training and learning here for the past 7 months taking a variety of classes. I have been involved with karate, mixed martial arts and wrestling for 19 years and have had many coaches along the way. I also trained at MKG in Seattle for 2 years. My experience with COGA has been awesome! Classes run the gamut from striking and grappling to Jiu-Jitsu with a gi. The coaches are helpful and experienced. Most importantly, they each they know their own areas of expertise well. They demonstrate the techniques the correct way from wide points-of-view. I've learned a tremendous amount to help me tighten up my form and create a diverse training experience. I've lost weight, gained muscle and don't find the need to lift weights to supplement my workouts anymore. The space is larger than many of the other MMA gyms and the level of students is also varied. There are only a few places around this state where you can get great technique, diverse classes and a kick ass workout. COGA is one of them. The classes are great because they are relatively small and the place is still growing. There have been a couple changes to schedule and coaches but whenever they are made it is always for the better and the students benefit from it all. Also, in my research it was one of the least expensive gyms.In MMA, as with other sports, you are only as good as your teachers. COGA has the instruction and environment that is not intimidating or too serious where you are not looking forward to class. I would recommend this place for newbies and seasoned MMA practitioners. If you want to professionally smash heads or need the structure of karate dojo then there are other places. More...
