First, let me start off by saying that the concept of this group is helpful on a social/support group level. If you want to make friends and be social, this might be for you. However, when it comes to finding your next professional opportunity, this group falls short. You are charged $20 to enter the meeting, and people are standing at the doorway with card readers and cash boxes. They are making sure you do not enter without paying. And, you are paying for this: a guest speaker and networking with other members. While Marty is a nice guy, it's a little obvious he is trying to make money. It's a little hard to digest when you are unemployed and on a budget. And, it's sad to see people who are vulnerable, and in a situation of unemployment, to have to pay to network with others. I have observed that the group is not welcoming to professionals who are younger than the age of 50. And they foster the perception that 'younger people are stealing their jobs,' which may be true but not helpful to those who are seeking their next job opportunity. The guest speakers are teaching this group skills that should be common sense to those who are executives and advanced in their careers (which is most to all people in this group). You should know how to use LinkedIn in this job market. You should understand the basics of communicating with others in a team. It's common sense in 2020. The vendors and people who are leading/working these meetings are very outdated and not competitive for the new marketplace. If you have money to spend and in need of some friends, then this is the group for you. More...
