Nate Schoemer Dog Training

Schoemer's passion is contagious! He clearly cares about his craft and carries an honest desire to educate his audience and clients.

My wife and I wanted to do right by our upcoming little Springer Spaniel pup and found Nate Schoemer through his YouTube channel. We quickly narrowed in on it because his advice was straightforward, he communicated a balanced perspective on training, and clearly explained the reasoning behind his advice.

We've been closely following his training advice for a little over a month now with our 13-week-old Springer Spaniel pup and we already feel blessed and impressed with how many practical commands our little pup has learned and with how quickly she has become a pleasant member of our household. She's a smart pup and her breed has a good personality to start with, which helps a lot. And we also know that her training will likely have periods of regression as she matures. But we firmly believe that Nate Schoemer's training is solid and has set our focus in the right direction.

More recently, we arranged a remote video call conversation with Nate. During our conversation, he went above and beyond in his efforts to delve deeply into each question we raised, not just answering our immediate questions but leaving us with a deeper understanding of each topic as a whole.

I've always loved dogs but had to wait till I was 25 before I could have my first one (32 years ago). In that time I've been to puppy classes, read books, had a psychologist out once in the 90's, and since the Internet, have searched almost everything thats out there for dog training, as all my dogs have only been partly trained.
Then I came across Nate Schoemer and that was revolutionary!
His clear way of explaining the science and art involved in communicating with dogs has thrown flood lights on what was very dimly lit understanding of what makes dogs tick, what's in it for them, and how they process information.
I've never felt so hopeful and confident that Nate has given me the answer to how to have the best relationship possible with my dogs.
It's up to me of course, to put time and effort and thinking into it, but Nate's videos and manuals provide such clarity, and the happy and confident way my dog reacts to the training, tells me we're going the right way.
Recently we had a personal zoom meeting and Nate is so warm and supportive in person as he is in all his videos, a really genuine guy!

I did a virtual dog training session with Nate this week. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and patient. He took the time to explain more difficult concepts to me a couple different ways and using different scenarios to ensure I understood. Nate has excellent info in his YouTube videos and in his book. The one-on-one virtual session was a convenient way to get help catered to specific behaviors with my service dog in training. As a veterinarian, I'm picky about training techniques. My Virtual Dog Training Session with Nate Schoemer this week went far beyond my expectations. I am very happy with the engagement Nate has with people, not just dogs! He clearly knows his material inside out and upside down and backwards. He can take a difficulty you have with your dog and break it down into the steps that will solve it. He also explains the basis for these steps so that you can understand why it’s done the way he describes. And then he throws in ‘test questions’ to see if you really do understand what he is saying. My wife and I had our first virtual consultation appointment with Nate today to talk about our training needs for our two golden retrievers. We have been using Nate's videos to assist with our training for years, but meeting with him today allowed us to ask specific questions about our dogs. Nate was patient and thorough as he listened and addressed each of our training concerns and questions. I have had a GSD in my home all my life and trained most of them my self and with trainers. Nate is by far the best trainer I have ever worked with or seen work with a dog. He has unlimited patience with both the dog and owner! The process he uses is very logical, practical and appropriate. He easily adopts training methods to the needs of the owner/handler. The final goal for my dog is as a certified Service Dog and this 9 month old female GSD is well on the way to being the perfect dog. Nate does a wonderful job breaking down the science for people and can give you a great understanding of how to communicate with dogs. He has so much great content explaining how he works with dogs and how you can do the same with yours! Highly recommend him if you are looking to better yourself in the world of dog training! I found Nate Schoemer like so many others via Youtube. We have learned and most importantly applied so much from all that free training, but recently as we entered the "teenage" phase we've had some new challenges that I couldn't quite apply what the videos were teaching to our situation. Feeling stuck we booked a zoom training with Nate and that one hour call ended weeks of frustration. Nate is so clear and concise on the science of dog training he was explaining concepts that I've heard in his videos but helping us to understand how they applied to our specific challenges. I just got my new puppy 2 weeks ago and am so excited. I’ve been watching all kinds of YouTube videos to figure out what the current best training methods are. There are lots of trainers on YouTube! I was drawn to Nate’s videos and channel for his clear and direct teaching. He shows puppies at the start of training and those he’s already trained to perfect obedience. He has short and long videos - all very informative.

I decided to contact him but was a little unsure what to expect since he has such a big YouTube presence with over 249K subscribers. I figured he’d be professional but was so surprised at how down-to-earth and easy he was to talk to. It was like casually chatting with a friend about my new puppy. He gave me lots of advice on how to begin and answered all my training questions while never making me feel like what I had to say or ask was dumb or insignificant. I didn’t even feel rushed during our conversation; He was generous with his time. I had such a good feeling about him during our talk, especially since he didn’t even try to promote/sell any of his services. He just offered lots of great information with no pressure or expectations from me. By the end of our phone call, I knew that I wanted him to teach me to train my new furry bestie! I found Nate Schoemer while searching You tube for information on owner trained service dogs. Best on line search I have ever done. I started watching all his amazing step by step videos and reading his book. Eventually, private zoom training sessions allowed us to bring our skills to the next level. Nate is incredibly passionate about his dogs, dog training, and helping someone like me train my dog to be an autism service dog. I get stopped multiple times a week by people who see me with my dog and ask if I’m a professional dog trainer! He is very responsive and patient. I have a working breed dog that overall is a good dog. However, she developed some behavior issues such as resource guarding me against my boyfriend, this was something well out of my range of knowledge of being able to fix and/or prevent, despite the research I had done. I religiously watch Nates YouTube videos concerning all of my dog training needs but this was something entirely specific and Nate just didn't have the video I needed for it. He offered a ZOOM Training meeting where I was able to explain what was happening and the advice given was INCREDIBLY helpful. She's not perfect but we work on the resource guarding daily and I can say that we are on our way to being one happy, QUIET and affectionate family thanks to Nate! His videos, advice and expertise has given me my dog back and then some as well as helped her relationship with my boyfriend. I'm working on training multiple dogs and my husband is a veterinarian. Scheduled a zoom meeting, since we're in Brazil and had many questions.
Nate's transparency and passion about his work are captivating! He answered each and every question we had and made sure we got it right! Where do I even begin? Nate was definitely sent to me by an angel because I have been through 2 other trainers now & what Nate has been able to teach both me and my dog in a super short period of time has been life changing.

I learned it can be & is supposed to be fun to train your dog; not just for you but for the dog too. I also learned you can be kind, nice, gentle, compassionate & understanding as the dog learns these new behaviors. You don’t have to be the alpha or dominant or have the dog be afraid of you. What a relief as my other trainer was borderline abusive to my dog & I had a really hard time getting on board with his Russian military style training.

If you’re deciding on a trainer I would recommend that you check out their videos to see exactly what & how they teach. Some trainers are one trick ponies & the dogs do only basic commands (sit/stay, down/stay) but if you want a comprehensive trainer that can literally take your dog from a rescue to a service dog then Nate is your guy. Just check out his TV show, Rescue Dog to Super Dog! Now, THAT is impressive! And, watch the ‘way’ he trains & ‘how’ he speaks to the dogs; so kind & happy. Nate was instrumental in teaching me that while training is important for a dog, it is more important for the handler to be properly trained to ensure consistency. I haven't had a puppy in over 13 years and when I got my weimaraner puppy I didn't know where to start. Nate breaks down the fundamentals (and advanced concepts) of dog training in an easy to understand, easy to apply way. When I'm at the park with my pup, I get compliments on how well- trained and reliable my boy is for his age. I worked with Nate virtually and have watched all his videos... And an incredible amount of videos that aren't his. Nate's approach to training is by far the best - he teaches theory so you can actually laden how to train a dog (not just what to do, but why) and truly cares about the animals - it's not a 'alpha' approach but is balanced

I spent about 2 hours with Nate showing me the fundamentals of teaching my dog new tricks and some obedience lessons. Nate is patient and kind and really knows what he is doing. I was just telling a friend how we all know experts in a given field, full of knowledge, but he/she is unable to convey what he/she knows, i.e., to TEACH their expertise and impart the information in a way that is articulate and meaningful to someone else. It is really a different and unique skill-set. Many people are experts at something, but they couldn't explain what they know to save themselves. Nate is different; he is a consummate dog trainer AND has the innate ability to impart what he knows so that we ordinary dog owners can understand and be successful in training our forever friends. I was able to grasp and understand the concepts and fundamentals. Honestly, that's no small feat. I'm already getting Cooper to learn some tricks. I love Nate's training philosophy and style. I could not believe how my adopted pup (whom I thought was a little slow in learning, but I guess it was not him, but me ) quickly responded to Nate and his lead and guidance. If you saw them, you would think it's his dog... Nate is really thorough in explaining his philosophy and how and why it works so well. You really can tell from the first moment how much he cares about his customers and dogs, and how much he loves his job.
