I trained on Chair, Cadillac and Advanced Cadillac here.  I am a pilates instructor so need the CEUs and find the staff here to be very knowledgable.  I have also trained at Blue Sparrow, and found the two different venues to have different styles of teaching, which I enjoy.Gail and Ineke are both very talented and great teachers; a good balance for one another.Go! So I'm an inflexible out-of-shape hack who needed to stop being such a pile and start developing some core strength so I can do basic stuff like push grocery carts through stores and easily hop out of the car to get Chick-Fil-A. Yumi not only helped me accomplish these feeble and lame goals, but she also restored a holistic sense of corporal potency in me by shepherding me through hundreds of pilates exercises. This location provides a serene ambiance and the instructors are cool, calm, collected practitioners who maturely manage hobbled patients like me. Cheers to Yumi and the MMC team, I highly recommend them for anything that ails you! More...

I have been a client at MM since it first opened. All of the instructors are Stott certified and this studio trains instructors as well as regular clients. If you sign up for a group class there will be no more than another five people. Many people take private sessions or have a regular duet partner. All of the equipment is kept in excellent repair or replaced and new things are added all the time. I have not heard any complaints in all the years I have been going here. If there is an issue it gets taken care of right away.
I used to have a very stiff back from my many horseback riding falls in my 20s and 30s. Several years after starting Pilates I realized I no longer had trouble turning my neck to check traffic while driving nor did I have to worry when getting up from a long meal with friends at a restaurant that I would be too stiff to walk normally right away. I go twice a week, once to group class (Total Barre) and once to a duet. It has made a very positive difference in my life. Going to the gym is good, but going to Pilates is much more beneficial for me.

I had been going to Mindful Movement Collective in Newark for a couple of years, rehabbing my knee replacement. I was so pleased with the results from the Pilates work that I was able to go back to the gym and eventually back to work. I retired recently, and now I'm having sessions with the owner/instructor, Ineke, at the Pleasant Hill studio and she's doing a wonderful job helping my back and neck pain. I was recently diagnosed with having 4 herniated disks in my neck, and 3 in my back. I'm doing everything I can not to have surgery, and the Pilates work Ineke has been doing with me is helping my mobility and easing my pain so much!I would recommend anyone looking for a highly qualified, understanding, and professional instructor in Pilates to consider Mindful Movement Collective in Pleasant Hill. Hi there,I am the guy in the photos.  I have been seeing Ineke for Pilates for 4 years.  I started at her studio in Newark, I was rehabbing from a knee replacement.  My knee was so bad that I couldn't do traditional therapy for it.  With Ineke's knowledge, patience, and expertise, I was able to get back to therapy, and get back to working as a police officer.  I have had 13 knee surgeries, and currently have 3 herniated disks in my back and two in my neck and I'm not a candidate for surgery.  I currently see Ineke at her Pleasant Hill studio 2 times a week, and the pain is subsiding.  I'm a pretty big guy who's done weightlifting all my life and I couldn't be in the gym without maintaining a Pilates regimen.  I recommend Ineke and Mindful Movement Collective Pilates Pleasant Hill to anyone who is in pain or wants to avoid being in pain.  It has been a lifesaver for me! I need to start off with saying how happy I am to have found this place. When it comes to my Yelp reviews, I'm typically giving my first impressions. With something like working out and physical wellness, I wanted to wait some time because this is definitely something that can play into someone's whole lifestyle in the long run. I'm still a fairly new client, a couple months in, but I am definitely planning to stay. A very very small *possible* con: the location of the studio. It's located in the business building across from Sears at Newpark Mall, on the second floor. Mainly if you have a later appointment, this can be a little inconvenient because without a pass, the doors are locked, or even if you do get inside, the elevator is locked. However, it's a very minor thing because when you contact about your first sessions, they do give you your instructors contact information so someone will be able to come get you in that case. Pros:* The studio itself is fantastic. There's a small reception area which is nice because walking straight into a room and seeing all the equipment can be intimidating. The way the space is used is incredibly efficient - you can tell Pilates is their focus. It's definitely a Pilates studio, as opposed to a gym that offers Pilates. * They offer private sessions. Group classes with Pilates are much much more common to find. I'm glad to have the one-on-one attention to tailor my workout and focus on what I want and need. * In addition to private sessions, they also offer small group classes. Whether it's extra practice on top of the private ones you take, or instead of them, they're offered. What's important to me here is that they're SMALL. The workout is much less personalized with less variety within the hour, but with never more than six people, the instructor can still see and fix things like form and make sure of everyone's safety on the equipment. * If you love it so much that you want to certify to teach, they offer instructor training too!* It's all appointment based. I love this so much because it's respectful to people's time. For my very first session I contacted the studio. I mentioned that you get your instructor's contact information - for your regular private sessions, you schedule with them directly. For group classes, you can register online. * The online system! You can register for sessions and pay for them online as well. I like that convenience. * And of course, none of the above would even matter if it weren't for my instructor. I've been training with Jenny for my private sessions, and I. love. her. What I appreciate most is that in the first couple of sessions, it really felt like she was trying to get to know me and why I was there. For example, I had told her that I also dance. Since then she's planned my sessions to not only strengthen specific parts of my body, but also to benefit something I do outside of Pilates. When she shows me something new, she always asks how I feel about it; was it uncomfortable, do I want to keep working on that one. I have yet to come across anything I don't like, but I do feel like I could tell her if/when I do. With scheduling, I try so hard to keep a kind of standing appointment with her, but with dance and work, my schedule comes with a lot of last minute changes. Luckily, Jenny is also very flexible with that. I feel like I move things around a lot but she's always been able to accommodate it. I highly recommend this place. Like I said, I try my best to come regularly and honestly, when I don't, I really miss it. Whether you've done Pilates before and want to come back to it, or if you're completely new, they'll take care of you! More...

After losing a Pilates instructor to a permanent teaching job, I was in search of a new instructor in or near Fremont CA. I found one with high ratings but I was turned off by the owner/instructor who, though a  good teacher, spent a lot of time talking about how much her students love her . A lot of self-promotion bothers me. So I found Mindful Movement and will never go back. Unlike Pilates classes in a gym, or at this other location, Mindful Movement is just what I needed. One look at their training area and you can see that Pilates is their primary purpose. I met Jenny when I wanted to see the studio, and she's been my private instructor ever since. I'd never taken private lessons before and thought it might be too expensive, until I realized I'd had to miss so many group classes in the past due to my other activities that for me group lessons might not be a big savings. I'm sure the group classes are wonderful, but private lessons are very focused on what I need and what I want.I'd recommend Jenny and the studio again and again. The vibe is perfect and I feel physically so much better! More...

I started at MMC doing private lessons with Amy, and I have to say I haven't enjoyed exercising this much in awhile!  Amy is wonderfully positive, patient, and cheerful - everything you'd want to look forward to in weekly exercise sessions.  She really listens to what you're comfortable/uncomfortable with, what you'd like to work on, etc., and tailors the sessions towards this.  I've only done Mat Pilates in the past, and found it very grueling and regimented in a lot of ways, with little exercise variation.  Pilates on the Reformer (it's a machine that pretty much allows you to work any muscle group in your entire body) was an entirely different experience for me, and I really like it!  So much more than just a group mat class, this allows the instructor to tailor the sessions and small group classes to your exact needs.  I've since moved into taking small group classes (versus private sessions), and while these can be as large as 6 people, it averages about 2-3 people so you still get very individualized instruction for a reasonable price (~$23-25/class).  I've had Amy for the Small Group Reformer class, and Gail for the Barre class, and both are great! Before I moved, I did a pro-con list for why I should move (yeah, I'm THAT nerd). About half of my list on the cons section, in all caps, was "I'LL HAVE TO LEAVE MMC! !"  It took me a while find this studio. I found many PILATES studios to be too centralized on yoga. To me, yoga and Pilates are completely different. I did private sessions for several years with Roberta. She made everything fun and she was able to target specific issues of mine. It was like working out with a BFF.I decided to join some classes. I was a bit intimidated because it seemed like everyone knew each other and I didn't want to feel like the party pooper. My better half and I have been taking Pilates classes at Mindful Movement  for about 5 years now.  I had taken a Pilates mat class for several months a few years earlier; he was a Pilates newbie.  The instruction we received in the small group classes was just the right balance of helping us and challenging us, and since then there's been no turning back. Most of our classes have been with Ineke, but over the course of 5 years we've had a chance to work with many of the other instructors, too.  All have been wonderful about helping us adapt exercises to our particular needs at the time (everything from a little tightness to a thrown-out back or a sprained ankle).  As well, each instructor seems to help us find little cues to help us find the muscles we're trying to activate, or to bring our breathing in more effectively, or to get just a little more challenge than we start out believing we're up for.In short, we've been getting serious workouts!Mindful Movement recently moved to a new studio space near the periphery of the New Park Mall that feels airy (at least during daytime classes) due to the two walls of windows.  The instructors make use of the full range of equipment (reformers, stability chairs, cadillacs, Bosus, arc-barrels, rings, stability cushions -- usually not all in the same class session, though).  The mixed-ability classes have worked pretty well from us, from back when we were the new students up to now, when we are on the more advanced end of the range, but the instructors can help you find a class grouping that's a good fit for your abilities and the level of challenge (or safety) you're seeking.Online class sign-up and payment has been very smooth.Yes, our muscles still complain about the hundred and ab series (at least while we're doing them), but our minds have no complaints about our Pilates experience at Mindful Movement. I started out taking Pilates with Gail at a Fremont gym, first large group mat, then on the reformer.  I moved to Mindful Movement as soon as it opened at its first location in Newark, behind the lumber yard.  I have enjoyed going there all these years - not sure how long now!  I still take classes mainly with Gail, though I like the other instructors.  I have made wonderful friends in my classes and we encourage each other to keep trying.  Gail manages to have something new at every class - I have no idea how she does it.  Thanks to Pilates, even though I am now 60, quite overweight, and have old back injuries, I don't have problems with my back or my neck - I used to. Pilates is a combination of strengthening exercises and flexibility exercises.  I laughed when one of my co-workers said it must be wonderful to do all that stretching.  It looks easy, but if it is easy, you are not doing it correctly!  Almost everyone groans at some point - but we keep coming back for more.  I really enjoy the Wednesday night jump board class, which is a great cardio workout. The atmosphere at Mindful Movement is always pleasant and fun.  There is no gossiping about other clients, or other instructors.  The equipment is kept clean and in repair - Ineke, the owner, buys the best to start out with.  Ineke and Gail go for advanced training in Toronto every year and they are certified to train instructors.  They are the best.I love going here and consider it to be a necessity to stay strong and flexible as I get older.
