Q&As

I became a social worker because I simply wanted to help people. This idea of “helping people” has grown into understanding of my daily goal I wish to accomplish with every person I make contact with is to give people an understanding of themselves, give a voice to what bothers them and to give hope allowing that hope to continue growing. I wake up every day knowing I have a chance to help someone feel better, to allow them to lessen that pain they have experienced often alone or if not, belief is there an end in sight to this pain and confusion?

Working as a private practitioner allows me to improve on my goal that motivated me to become a social worker: the opportunity to increase the chance of helping those who can be helped with talking with a professional counselor/therapist. In my 20 years in the mental health field, I have had much success, stated by the feedback that I have received with those I have helped. I just wish to not only continue with this success but expand on how many I can attempt to help them with their emotional pain.

What I do is help someone with the “I don’t Know” they have, sometimes shared sometimes not. Ever have a friend and/or a family member ask “so what is wrong” and you may state well I feel sad, not motivated or my thoughts are all over the place. Possibly may say as well I feel out of control or my life is out of control, I feel impulsive or I make bad decisions in my life (especially in relationships). Sometimes we know some words like depression, anxiety or poor judgement but any further it is a “I don’t know”. How do I help? I offer support with the person to find those words to be able to express what the problem(s) are. I do this with what I call “casual conversation” using several different exercises in the beginning sessions allowing the trust to begin from the individual with me as well to work together to find words that the person finds “fits them” to express themselves. My aim is to help someone find their voice, this voice then being able they hear for themselves what was unaware and voicing to everyone that the person feels needs to hear their voice as well.

I provide services online and remotely by use of telephone and/or video conferencing (Facetime, Zoom)

Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have offered my counseling services by telephone as well as online using video conferencing (Zoom or Facetime). If an individual wants to have a session in-office, I provide the safe social distancing of up to and beyond 6ft between myself and the person. I require all in-office sessions for everyone (including myself) to wear face coverings. I provide hand sanitizer throughout my office and after each session, the office is cleaned and wiped down between sessions providing a safe environment for each person that chooses in-office counseling sessions.
