From Carnegie Hall to your wedding, the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band created Chicago's Big Band Jewish Dance sound. In addition to rocking the hora, Maxwell Street plays Jazz and Swing, Rock 'n' Roll, Motown and more. They come out as a small ensemble for wedding ceremonies and small parties, or with all the musicians, singers and danceleaders for big parties and concerts.

We are so happy we chose this band for our son's Bar Mitzvah party! They surely made the event unique and memorable for all.  The musicians are talented and perform from the heart.  The combination of Jewish tradition and modern music is what we were looking for is  and exactly what we had which was appreciated by all.  They can sing a variety of songs in different languages representing different cultures. I highly recommend the Maxwell Street Klezmer band for anyone who is looking for quality entertainment. Thank you!! More...

I cannot fully explain just how much the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band enhanced my wedding day. Â We had so many phenomenal vendors and elements of the wedding, but the thing that every person we talk to brings up is the band! From the lovely background they provided during cocktails/kabbalat panim, to the absolutely breathtakingly beautiful music provided at the ceremony, to the music at the reception, Maxwell Street was the absolute top caliber of music we could have imagined. I still cannot describe the beauty of Alex Kauffman's violin processional without crying. Â And the variety of music at the party: music for a horah set that everyone is still talking about, Russian classics, the Beatles, and some of today's top pop hits- it is incredible that one band can offer so much, and do it all so beautifully. Â On top of all of this, the band's leader, Lori Lippitz, was instrumental in making sure the day went smoothly. Â She made sure that she knew exactly what I wanted ahead of time, so that the day of the wedding, everything was absolutely perfect. One friend said it to me best, "It was like each of those musicians set out that night to play their heart out for you! You could tell it wasn't just another gig for them, they showed love for you, and wanted to be sure you had the most perfect night."Maxwell Street Klezmer Band should be the obvious choice for any wedding! I produce "Wednesdays on the Green" for Downtown Skokie. We couldn't be happier with the choice to hire the band to play for us. They drew one of the largest crowds in the three years we have been holding the summer series and we had wonderful comments from the audience and the sponsors. We had over 600 people present and everyone had a memorable night. More...

We've loved Maxwell Street Klezmer since our our first Simchat Torah service. Â They set the mood for any celebration - so much so that we booked a trio for an extended hora set at my son's bar mitzvah. Â They are WONDERFUL to work with!! Â Accommodating, professional, flexible, talented, joyful and made the party everything we dreamed of. Â You can't go wrong with Maxwell Street! More...

We had a guest book at our wedding, and about 75% of the comments had nothing to do with wishing us well. Instead, they said things like, "Oh my god, I am converting to Judaism after today, your band was soooo good," or "FUNNEST WEDDING BAND EVER! !!" or, "Any bride who walks down the aisle to Leonard Cohen is cool in my book--GREAT BAND!!"If you want a band who is professional (we met with Kimber prior to the wedding and she basically put together our entire timeline for us), versatile (they played Ray LeMontagne, Aretha and traditional Klezmer, including a ton of other great songs), uplifting (everyone remarked that they'd never seen absolutely EVERYONE at a wedding out on the dancefloor like they did at our wedding), Maxwell Street is it!Also--about 50% of the people in attendance at our party was non-Jewish. We had a dance leader (STEVE: YOU'RE THE BEST--5 out of 5 Stars!!) who got literally every person out of their seat. I swear, the old handicapped people in wheelchairs were busting a move because of this guy. He's like the jewish Kevin Bacon in Footloose. It was a splurge for us, but they are hands down the best band you could ever ask for. They honestly MADE our wedding. I had the greatest night of my life, and Maxwell Street was a huge huge part of that. As far as I'm concerned they have no competition. AMAZING. More...

If you want some rollicking Jewish music for your wedding or Bar/Bat Mitzvah, give these folks a call. Â They'll give you a great selection of Yiddish and Israeli tunes, and a good supply of "regular" music too. Â There are vocalists, a clarinetist, a violin, everything you need. Â I've seen them at concerts and "simchas" (happy occasions) and they are always polished, professional and fun. More...
