Best photographer we have ever hired. Took care of all. Invisible. Fast. Courteous. Did his own post production and controlled the sensitivity and final images. An artist who paints with his camera. Great wedding, and candid shots we will cherish for a lifetime. More...

Gigi’s Hawaii Tasting Tour of restaurants in Lahaina is a must do event for kama'aina and visitors alike. You get to enjoy the best table in the house and the best signature dishes paired with wine or an exotic cocktail. It’s so easy. You just show up, and Gigi and the restaurant staff will cater to your needs. I love that we did not have to spend time with the menu to figure out a meal that can sometimes be a hit or miss.
What really made the event special was spending time with Gigi. She is an endless source of information and you can see and feel her passion for Hawaii, the culture and its people. Gigi sits with you and keeps you entertained with interesting stories and facts about Hawaii. Even though we grew up here on Maui, we still learned many interesting things and totally enjoyed the entire experience.
This Tasting Tour comes highly recommended.

My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon in Maui and while researching the activities we came across this tasting tour. Let me just say that it was the best experience we had in Maui. I highly recommend this tour, every time someone talks about going to Maui we mention the tour. Whenever we go back to Maui we will be going on the tour again. More...

My husband and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary and we chose this tour after reading all the reviews. It’s been over a month and we are STILL talking about it! My husband and I travel a lot, have done about 10 food tours and have been to Maui about 20 times. Hands down, this was the most unique and fun. Each restaurant on the tour was ready with a special table, special greeting, special tasting plates and everyone knew it was our anniversary and came to congratulate us by name! Only 8 people on the tour, 4 couples, and I later learned that they only have a maximum of 10 guests which made me feel even more exclusive. Oh and the food….just unbelievable but go hungry because there is a lot of it. We ate at places I wouldn’t have gone to and have returned to 2 of the places since. The way history and culture are woven into the tour with just the right tips are unparalleled to any tour we have been on in Hawaii. I thought the part about ocean safety was remarkable as it’s not something we hear much about. I finally know why we don’t turn our back on waves and why we don’t touch turtles. Hawaii Tasting Tours really knows their stuff and has so many little special touches from hand wipes, photos, dental floss even which really impressed me. That is someone who really knows how to keep their guests comfy. The week before we arrived we got a jam packed email full of info and a reminder 3 days prior to the tour. The cost is more than worth it but the only thing we wish we did was to take it at the start of our vacation. I had read the other comments on tripadvisor about that but ignored it so it’s really good advice. We only had 2 days to eat again at the places we experienced on the tour so go earlier on your vacation because you will want to visit all of them again. This was the highlight of Hawaii for us and really made us feel what aloha (and ono) is. Try it, you will not be disappointed!! More...

Q&As

I'm asked all the time about how to shoot weddings. It's simply a matter of style and technique. I like to focus on tender moments. You'll get plenty of iPhone snapshots from your friends and family. What makes wedding photography for me is the details, the moment, the reflection on life changing and uniting. It's not about the ceremony. It's about the tension before and the relief after. The only tools I use for weddings are Leica cameras. They are simply the best art tools on the planet for intimate photographic expression.

How much time will you commit to the process of getting great shots for your wedding?
Do you want soul and tender moments or do you want to "document"" your event, guests moments? Honestly, I'm not the document photographer. I'm hung in galleries and an artist. I approach this process like a gallery project. If I hand you 6 award winning, empathic, beautiful and technically exceptional shots at the end, I consider this a rousing success! That's not for everyone! Some people hire me and a general wedding photographer and get both.
Can we spend time together BEFORE the wedding? If yes, I can get shots in advance and better understand the angles that make you and your mate look the best. This costs more but boy is it worth it.
Are you on a tight budget? I'm at the high end and you may not want a general wedding photographer.

I connect with my clients in a way that few people connect. I get to see inside their lives, families, friends and souls. The point of a flat photograph is a piece of frozen time that hangs on your wall forever, expressing miultideminality of you, your thoughts, your chronology, beauty, intellect, private space and yet tells a story about all that to a viewer. This is a tough thing to capture fast. The challenge and the technique thrill me every time. I use only Leica cameras (which cost over $10,000 for a darn lens) but do so as Nikon and Canon just do not offer the technical freedom and quality of Leica. The photographer is the most important choice but it blows me away how many clients don't ask about their gear. It matters so much. The colors and depth of field and background softness are all better when the same shot is made on Leica gear instead of other lesser cameras. I'm also a post production nut and love to really milk a photo in my studio until I achieve perfection, to my tastes. Finally when I hand a husband a shot of his bride and he chokes up and a tear drops from his eye, well that's about the best reward I can get artistically.

I was forced into this as people kept calling and asking me to shoot their weddings and intimate moments, along with corporate needs. It blossomed!

You would only choose me if you have a budget that is above average, want emotional shots that are creative, yet classic, and need to have a moment in time frozen for posterity in a moving way. The technology side of my business counts too - but I've covered some of that imn my other answers. I sure hope this helps!
