My dealings with Mass Bay Movers were positive from the start. They gave me a quote after I told them more about my move (# of items, distance, etc). After I signed up for it, they sent me a contract and committed to a 2 hour window in which to come. They arrived 30 minutes into that timeframe, after texting me to say they were 10 minutes out. The team showed up to my house early on moving day and had entire house emptied in 3 hours! The next day (moving into our new home) they called to give estimate on arrival and showed up on time, and our belongings were unloaded again in 3 hours! The best and easiest and low stress moving experience ever. From the early stages of planning my customer representative, Erica, was extremely communicative, easy to work with, flexible. .. very transparent on pricing and the online platform to review the quote was very clear and user friendly. My movers, Jonathan M, Carlos, and Gregorio, were incredibly efficient, helpful, careful, and friendly. I appreciated the time they took to ensure everything was packaged with care to ensure no damages in transit. Great communication and they really hustled to get everything done quickly yet carefully! They put my bed back together and set my furniture all up the way I wanted. No damages to my things at all. Very disappointing. We used them last August (2021), and everything went very smoothly, just like many other reviewers here describe: they arrived on time, were very fast and efficient (there were four of them), and finished earlier than quoted time. This time, however... They arrived at 8:45 AM and played some fighting game on the street for some time; they did not start actually moving anything until 9:15 AM (but charged us from 8:45 AM, of course). There were five of them, and they were very, very slow. One of the movers was wearing sunglasses the whole time, moved slowly, and his speech also was slow and deliberate. After they arrived at the destination, the unloading process took a very long time--they would pick up an item, get into the house, and then emerge after 2 or 3 minutes. The foreman, Rich, in the meantime was in the truck (he spent there most of the time) carefully folding blankets they used to cover our furniture. The August'21 team if four took moved more stuff in 5 hours than this team of five did in 7.5. And after they left--a little cherry on top of the cake--we discovered that they put our long (and heavy) TV stand the wrong way (drawers facing the fall), so we had to move it ourselves in a room full of furniture. All in all, it seems like working with this company is a bit of a crapshoot: you can get a team that is awesome, or a team that it really lackluster. More...

Following a house fire we had furniture moved and stored by MassBay Movers. When those items were returned we found extensive damage, so we filed a claim. In an e-mail, MassBay offered a monetary settlement of $860. We tried to discuss the claim further, but they would not answer our emails. After the third or fourth try, they simply wrote back: We have sent you our offer of $850.00 [sic]. This is our final offer." We called to discuss the claim as well as their bad customer service, and they did call us back, but would not negotiate on any part of the claim. Being worn out by the process, we emailed saying we would accept the offer. When they sent a release form, it included an "anti-disparagement clause" that basically said neither we nor any of our family or friends could make disparaging remarks about the company on social media or anywhere else, or they'd have the right to go after the settlement money. We now understand why there seem to be only glowing reviews online! This clause violates the Federal Consumer Review Fairness Act of 2016 by stopping us from reviewing their services or conduct online or in any other way; and by imposing penalties or fees (in this case, claiming the right to a refund of the settlement amount) if we do post a review of their services or conduct. Customers beware. The moving team we had was careful. The experience at the warehouse was another thing entirely. Furniture did need to be brought onto the floor for insurance inspection. Somewhere in the process, antique furniture was wrapped in packing tape without any blankets. There are white paint streaks on the edges of many pieces. We expected some damage, but not as extensive as was found. But even worse, our experience with MassBay Movers is that the company is unprofessional in its treatment of its clients and continues to break the law with its anti-disparagement clause. We believe we should be able to receive payment for damages AND write an honest review without penalty. More...
