Very nice place to eat and relax. It's just a bit expensive, so bring some extra change.

Barry Bun's acts on excellence. They offer fresh baked offerings. The price is right. The service is on point. The sticky buns are soft, sweet and satisfying. They are abundant and for you if you want it. Chocolate chip cake, cookies, and goods galore. That was my reason for visiting this market. The place is close, warm, and inviting for,any of your food needs. More...

My wife and I had been to the previous incarnation of this market many times, but everything changed about 6 years ago apparently. Now, there is an outdoor garden for sitting and eating, the atmosphere is pleasant, and our friends at Momos of Tibet have a stand inside. That's what we really came for.But what a lovely place to sit outside in the shade on a warm day near the end of summer! Good crowds, pleasant dogs visiting outside. We really enjoyed our visit, and expect to go back. More...

Stopped here for lunch while visiting our son in Philadelphia. Different counters with variety of foods. I like to try different things and had bubble tea for the first time at a little Asian place in the market. It was sweet flavored and had black balls of tapioca in. Prob not something I would go get again but was fun to try it. There was coffee, ice cream, bakery items and meals. Recommend! More...

If you happen to live near Chestnut Hill, I strongly urge you to come at this neat Market.  It's close to the USPS and the Chestnut Hill hotel.  There is free parking at the back so no need to pay for metered parking.  The market is very pretty in the spring, summer and fall months.  It's open Thursday to Saturday with a few exemptions from some stores who have Wednesday and Sunday openings.  There is an outdoor seating area, and indoor seating area.  This place is great for families and people with pets. The selection of food and groceries in the markets is great as well. They have different international cuisine, a deli, a produce section, and you can even get an ice cold beer while you eat your meal. More...

Market at the Fareway is the successor to the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market on Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia. It is owned/operated by the folks who brought you the Chestnut Hill Hotel, next door. It incorporates historic charm with contemporary cuisine alternatives, including the Chestnut Hill Brewing Company, for a fun and flavorful cultural experience in the heart of one of the most attractive neighborhoods in greater Philadephia (I hesitate to use the word, "quaint"). It still possesses the charm of the old farmers market, with butcher, baker and green grocer in house. But, in addition you can enjoy the pleasures of street food like Korean fried chicken, local microbrew beer, sweets straight out of the oven, pizza, and sushi, and more. There is a common dining area for those who prefer to eat while the food is at its apex taste. Although there is a free parking lot behind the structure, it is often full, requiring a search of the streets surrounding the market. No doubt, the residential neighbors nearby find that annoying, to say the least. In fact, there is litigation going on between the owners of the market and the closest neighbors about the expansion of the operations to include an outdoor beer garden. An agreement between the previous owners and the concerned citizens was thought to deny this growth. The outcome remains to be seen at this time. Certainly hope all sides can find a workable solution for this issue, as angry neighbors are never good for business, and overreaching businesses are seldom good for long term peace and prosperity in the neighborhood. It would be a shame to lose the benefit of the new Market at the Fareway, for the sake of an effort to squeeze additional profits from an already successful venture. Why not allow for a certain number of outdoor days for the beer garden every year, and keep it closed the rest of the time? There is enough room inside for those who want to drink on site. And you can always buy some to take home. A special permit would be required from the ABC or State Police to allow for special events, but that seems manageable compared to fighting about this, and leaving it to a judge. Should I return, I promise to eat and drink inside until this is resolved. More...
