What an incredible way to start my Saturday and begin my first week of graduate school in Boston! I have had tight and painful upper back muscular issues for years (gymnastics, rock climbing, extreme stress and poor posture). Anna is extremely knowledgeable and helped me to understand the root of where my problem areas were stemming from and how I can address them at any point in the day (my feet, hips, and needing to pay attention to my body posture throughout the day).Feeling so much more relaxed after 1 bodywork session. Will definitely be making another appointment in the future. Highly recommend! More...

Anna is a terrifically knowledgeable practitioner of her art. I have done various kinds of "massage therapy" through the years - but nothing as effective as Anna. I believe what she does would be called myofascial release. In any case, her goal is to free up the relative motion between muscles via deep tissue massage aimed at releasing the fascia adhesions. I confess to a certain degree of skepticism before seeing her - but the results were dramatic. Check out The Fuzz Speech by Dr Gill Hedley on YouTube for some background on the concept. For me, she dramatically improved my ROM and pain in my hip and knee. More...

This was my first experience with deep tissue massage and Anna was great. I'm not normally a glutton for pain but nothing was so uncomfortable that I was yelping (no pun intended). She's got a hurts-so-good aim and indeed, while she dug in, there was still thoughtfulness and gentleness there. She showed me tips for posture, tips for stretching areas that were clearly tight, and dug deep into areas I knew had sensitivity, and then their complementary areas on the other side. For example - she did amazing work on my left hip, which is always really tight, but then did work on my right hamstring, which I didn't even know was an issue, but had incredible tightness.I came here using a nift gift card (so got $45 off!) and this felt like an incredibly good deal for an hour-long massage. She was friendly and inquisitive and would pause to show me stretches when she could see she'd hit a particularly sensitive spot.I'm giving her 5 stars, but my calculation is really 5 stars with two negative stars and then a bonus star. Let me explain:The negative stars: -Do *not* use her online booking system. It gives the wrong prices (less than what you will actually be charged), and she doesn't monitor the system, so even if you book an appointment, you're not actually booking an appointment. I made an appointment through her online system, but since my nift gift cert said to call I wanted to make sure I wasn't caught on a technicality (and anyway it seemed like there were maybe too many times open). When I called she said she already then had an appointment booked at that time (even though I'd been able to book the conflicting time), and that the rate was the rate that it said on her site, not the rate that I'd been sent a booking confirmation *through* her site. I probably would've canceled the whole thing out of frustration in advance if I hadn't had a gift card. In fairness, she did text me day of to see if I could still come in at my original preferred time (I'm guessing the other person canceled), but you shouldn't have a web booking system if you're not going to honor it!-I told her about some of my sensitive areas, but discussed that the worst was by far the left side of my neck and my left shoulder. Not that she ignored the area completely, but she spent much more time focusing on my left hip, right hamstring, and right side of my neck. I figured we were just building up to the left side, but then we ran out of time before she got to give it the kind of attention my other 3 quadrants received. I would still go back to Anna, because I think she gives a wonderful massage, but next time I would advocate to start where I'm actually feeling pain to make sure it gets ample time. The bonus star: When we ran out of time, she didn't have another client after me, so asked if I wanted another 10 minutes on my back. I agreed, and she didn't charge me extra for it. So for that, I was very appreciative - if you do the math, I got about $20 more of massage for free (plus my gift cert)!Pro-tip: she sells packages of massages to make them cheaper, but you can divide with other people - so if you and a couple friends each want a massage, you can go in on it together for a cheaper rate! Why haven't I reviewed Anna already? geez.I was referred by a friend and was astonished -- which doesn't go away, really -- at how knowledgeable and intuitive she is. It's one thing to really know anatomy, which Anna does. It's another to have the sense she demonstrates to locate the underlying issues, to feel through a problem, to collaborate with the person on the table. Anna does not provide nature music or lavender oil. It probably won't be pleasant but she'll tell you to do stuff that will help you. She can tell you why the stuff wrong in your leg is connected to what's not functioning in your back. She's brilliant. The absent-minded professor of bodywork.  She has helped me gain awareness. We worked through the main problem I presented with and now we're diving even deeper, because that's how it work. Dude, if you want a zen fountain in your waiting room, fine; but if you want therapeutic bodywork that will change your body, get past that. Instant phrase that comes to mind when thinking of Anna's massage is "HURTS SO GOOD."It really does.Anna is amazing at what she does, I found her based on reviews and I was a huge ball of tension, almost to the point where it was a challenge to target certain areas of muscle and tissue. I was barely functional. Regardless, she did a lot of great work on me and when some issues caused for attention greater than deep tissue massage she was kind enough to recommend some other very helpful practitioners which really only demonstrates how much she cares about her patients/clients/people's healing. I mean who recommends their competition? People who care about their client's health. That's who. After the first time I saw Anna, I instantly noticed positive changes in my walking and relief (lots of compensations and pains resulting from a fractured tibia 2 years ago) though I needed some additional attention from different health/wellness realms. When other practitioners in different health realms minimized some of the serious joint issues and muscular tension I returned to Anna for more work. Now I'm a recent graduate. I'm not indulgent. I mean every now and then I'll buy some chocolate or frozen yogurt with my groceries, but I mean, I'm not booking extravagant massages every week.I see Anna, because I experience pain and discomfort, and because there's a noticeable difference after seeing her.I told her she's ruined me for massage (in a good way!). Swedish massage is great, don't get me wrong. But Anna Is great with deep tissue. She has what I call an "intuitive touch" and this kind of sixth sense in terms of hunting out unhappy fascia, muscles, and whatnot. If you're involuntarily saying "FuckkKkkkkk" as she works on you, good. That means Anna is taking care of that motherfucking pain and laying down the law. What hurts today, functions and restores amazing range of motion tomorrow. I believe that. That's why I've returned to her and seen her at least 4 or 5 times? And I know I will continue to, too.I think her rates are pretty standard in terms of massage, and she's incredibly worth it. She really puts all her energy into her time with you and attacks those areas of discomfort vigorously and I'm always a little bummed that time is up when it is. I don't drop cash like that all the time unless I know it's necessary, beneficial and worth it. And if you're in pain my friend, you're health is worth it.Anna is a very honest person too, which is why I enjoy her company so much. You ask her opinion on something and she'll dish, no filter. She makes great conversation, tries to answer your questions the best she can and will even give you stretches to practice at home. I highly recommend Anna to anyone in physical discomfort or anyone seeking deep tissue work. A++++! More...

Anna was very kind, respectful, and informative about what she was doing and how she interpreted my body strains, aches, and tightness. She warned me ahead of time that there would be pain as part of the process, and yep, there was! But she also listens - as she requests, which is nice so I don't have to feel awkward speaking up - when I let her know to ease off or if I needed a break. I felt her level of conversation was also appropriate, not too much or too little and I didn't feel like I had to be silent the entire time. Anna also provided tips on stretching and improving posture to help your body at an every day level. I would definitely return to Anna again. More...

I have known Anna since grade school, and since she started her second career as a massage therapist, she has evolved into the best I've known in my long history of massages. She calls them treatments, because that is what they truly are. Don't expect a relaxation massage that doesn't address key issues of posture and alignment, etc. About a month ago, we were having dinner together, and I had had a persistent pain/strain in my palm and thumb for at least a week, and she reached across the table and fixed it in 5 minutes! I tore two of my rotator cuff muscles badly in May, the operation was pretty severe, moving my bicep amongst other things, and I had to go right back to school and take care of my sick Mother immediately afterward. After a 2 months of stress, a touch of scoliosis, and carrying the dead weight of my arm around, I was in constant pain, and got an emergency session with my 2nd best therapist in western Mass. where I was at the time. She solved the problem, but only for a couple of weeks. I went to see Anna, and it did not return. She asked me a lot of questions about my daily routine, and gave me some tips on how to sit at my desk and in my car, and how to stand when I'm in line at the grocery store that really have made an impact on my day to day. The massage itself was also great. I told her about my training and what has been bothering me (sore knees from tight IT bands, quads, hamstrings, etc.) and she really focused on those areas and gave me some good assisted stretching as well as massage. I left feeling energized and more prepared for my race, and my legs felt refreshed and rested even though I had just run 12 miles the day before.I also really enjoyed learning about what she was doing, and about why my legs felt the way they did.
