This is Leavenworth, not Kansas City. I'm making MY comparison based on the restaurants I have been in Leavenworth.Traveled all over the world, five continents, so comparing is difficult in ONE way, however, MAMA MIA's is just like a family owned, European or whatever restaurant. Warm, friendly, and really the best they can be for the demand.I'm NOT an Italian cuisine foodie. Like Indian, Sushi.(Go to Sushi Garden, in Lansing)All being said, I LOVE this place!Went to Luigi's Italian Restaurant. Wish I was a ROBOT, it  just was THAT cold and uninviting. Food over priced , TV's annoying!I don't go to a restaurant to watch TV.Back to Mama Mia'sGo on the PATIO...pretend you're in Italy.After  only a second visit, ROB, the owner, knew my name and that I liked eggplant and WINE.Katie, was AWESOME.Came in and before I ordered, came to me with a glass of wine! She never even waited on me before...just KNEWI eat alone and just felt so comfortable and treated like a rock star!LOTS of locals come there...good sign.A SPINACH SALAD is an option compared to the iceberg, non nutritional, house salad that ALL restaurants serve. I came here to celebrate a birthday dinner and it was such a great experience. This is a really nice restaurant for Gilroy, it's a fancy place with unique dishes, plus a lot of room for indoor and outdoor seating. My dish was the most popular one at our table: the tortellini with creamy tomato sauce. I even added meatballs to it which turned it into the perfect dish! It's a lot larger than it appears, and a very filling. The meatballs were slightly small but they put a lot on my plate. The linguini aglio pasta was pretty good but I thought it was slightly lacking in flavor. It did have a decent amount of vegetables and came with two large sausages on the side.The bruschetta was quite good but I could tell the tomatoes were either from a can or not completely fresh. There were multiple large, crunchy pieces of bread which I appreciated because there were several people at our table. We also ordered a large seafood soup which was huge and stuffed with a various clams, calamari, muscles, shrimp, and cooked fish. The broth was so good and creamy, almost curry-like with a very intense Italian flavors. I recommend this!We also ordered some creamy mushroom appetizer which is probably my favorite appetizer. It had small, whole mushrooms mixed in a cream of mushroom sauce that was great for dipping bread are eating by itself. This place is the best.....all around....from the phone call to order....to the food...great experience.... Awesome service. ...great food... I lived in Campbell and went to Mama Mia's often! I was thrilled when there was one here by my new home. The food is excellent but the menus do differ. If I could change one thing to be like Campbell it would be to eliminate the peppers and tomato atop the veal and chicken parm. Just gimme cheese! But we LOVE the build your own calzone option! This is one of the best places to eat in Gilroy! The food is fresh and they make the pizza dough fresh also I know because I asked. In fact it's so fresh they make it the day of incredible! The Taste of the pizza is out of this world! I highly recommend you go there if you want fresh incredible food! The bartenders are fantastic they know what there doing and are always on top of there game. The waiters, waitresses and hostesses are so helpful! I wish I could give this place six stars I will definitely be back! Best food I have tasted in awhile! Not to mention there fresh bread that they bring out to you is amazing. My boyfriend who used to live in this area insisted we visit because it's his favorite pizza place and he's right it was soooo good! And for the two of us we got one slice and had to slice it in half due to the huge size! It's literally like they made a whole pizza and cut one huge triangle slice out of the pizza (I'll attach a photo). My wife and I supported Gilroy High School Athletics fundraiser by purchasing coupon books for $20. This included coupons for a free appetizer with the purchase of two entrees at Mama Mia's. The restaurant is clean and busy, with a muted burgundy ceiling and tasteful decor. The draft from the front doors wafting throughout the restaurant, however, means that everybody in the place has their coats on during colder months.  There's a bar area with tall tables to hang out while waiting for your table to open, though the host may not tell you about it when you walk in.The host was friendly and communicative. The 25-minute wait was almost exactly as long as predicted. My wife & I walked around the shopping plaza and caught Pokemon while we waited; there are a few other restaurants and shops to keep you entertained while you wait.We ordered Calamari Fritti for an appetizer. Lightly breaded, not over cooked, served with two sauces that were pretty good. Ate it up. It's served on a bed of leaves that are themselves quite strong; don't eat unless you like strong flavors!I ordered seafood cioppino. This hearty stew had massive quantities of different seafood in it, with very few noodles. It was spicy, warm on a cool December night, and tasted pretty good!My wife ordered lamb kabobs.  On advice of our server, it was cooked to a perfect Medium. Served on a bed of rice, the lamb was delicious and perfectly seasoned. However, some of the cuts were a little tough & gristly, but overall it was excellent.We are not drinkers, so I cannot rate the wine list. The restaurant has an outdoor eating area. It's very relaxing but at present there is some street construction going on. Call ahead work may have been completed by now. So, this is a long past due review and thank you.  The food is good, basic Italian eats.  However, what keeps us coming back is our go to server Karrie.  She is able to turn dinner into a wonderful dining experience with her outstanding customer service and attention to detail.  She pays attention to us as regulars and remembers how we request certain menu items.  It makes for a relaxed and enjoyable experience.  She keeps us coming back to this location and we really appreciate her. I love coming here for dinner, my family and I come here for birthday dinners and anniversary dinners. Ok that's a lie, we come more often than I noted. I hate a packed places. And they get fairly busy.But oh my good god thank you for Mama Mia's for the most delicious Italian dinners in all of Gilroy. Went for lunch, seated outside-cute little area. We were brought warm bread right away with oil/balsamic/roasted garlic.  Ordered the Tabouleh appetizer-very fresh and delicious, almost as good as I got in a little family owned Greek restaurant in SF. Capellini  Fresca was delicious! Sauce was bright, spinach and basil fresh and lightly steamed. Stuffed rigatoni was also on point. Sauce was thinner than expected, but with the rich filling in the pasta it was perfect. Ok so the group wanted a more relaxed night with just good pizza...Mama Mia's delivered!There was one waitress for the whole place but she pulled it off. We never waited long, we never ran out. And everything cane out right and in good time!The cheese bred sucked! But that was the only bad thing we had... don't waste your money.I have fried artichoke hearts (being in Gilroy there are two things you have to eat while here... Garlic and artichoke) they were excellent! I also had the Church's choice pizza that was a mix of 3 meats and mushrooms... The crust was crispy and chewy all at once... the sauce wasn't too heavy or sweet, and the blend of sausage, pepperoni, and salami with the mushrooms was divine!The place is not fancy, they have a pretty good bar, and there is a ton of parking!A good spot that delivered exactly what we wanted... descent pizza... Great service, and good Italian food in a pleasant space.

The entrees were fine, the sausage was satisfying and the kid's cheese pizza was just right for our boy.

Dessert was not quite as good: the cheesecake was fine (though the crust was a little though and bland) but the creme brulee was very disappointing - the creme was thin and flavorless, the sugar on top was raw over most of the surface and burnt in one spot, not properly caramelized anywhere. Established as oldest Italian restaurant in town which is a feat in a town that is tough on restaurants. Gilroy still has a small town mentality and feeling. People know each other and talk to each other. If aunt Martha’s neighbor had a bad meal at a place on Wednesday the whole damn town had heard about it by the weekend and 6 mos later they are shut down! Consistency is what the line most about this place. The food is always good albeit a bit predictable. The service is always professional and prompt. Wine list is honest. Corkage is reasonable. They do a great lasagna.... my wife’s favorite. I️ like a dish they discontinued a few years ago ... calamari fritti limone. I️ asked the waiter about it and he talked to the chef and whipped it up in the traditional style. Very nice. Pizzas are very good. A take out staple in our house. Arrived 10 minutes before closing, but we were accommodated regardless.The menu is an eclectic; Italian with a Mediterranean twist. There are quite a few options. We ordered from the "create your own pasta" selection.The waiter served us warm bread with balsamic vinegar & olive oil for dipping; tasty combination. Because we arrived late we opted not to order an appetizer.I ordered spaghetti w/meatballs and meat sauce. Great choice, better than average portions. Great food, great prices, and amazing customer service. After arriving at O'Hare International Airport late at night, I was looking for something to be delivered to my nearby hotel. I found Mama Mia's and the menu looked great. After my third-party delivery service completely dropped the ball, Tony went out of his way to make sure I got my food as quickly as possible and that I was satisfied. I particularly enjoyed the spaghetti with meat sauce, which arrived piping hot. This place is my jam! I love the chewy texture of the pizza here. Pro tip: always get two slices! It's what they do around here. Don't worry, it's super affordable. Four bucks for two slices. There is plenty of seating in the back and video games for the kiddos. There are even a few long tables in case you wanted to have a full on pizza party. The room itself is dimly lit and slightly, let's say worn, but I don't mind. The pizza is fantastic and they people are usually very nice. I've never felt that it was dirty. That would be gross. No, mama Mia's is well loved. Local students should consider this another place to study. Just pop in your earbuds and work away. However, the downside is that there is no internet here. Other than that, there aren't a lot of distractions. The radio is constantly playing hence the need for earbuds. Whenever I come to Watsonville I try to get over to this pizza place. Always excellent!  Mama Mia's has great food, great service and is such a charming place.  I have never had anything here that wasn't just delicious.  The ziti is my favorite.  Always hot and tasty.  Occasionally I branch out and order spaghetti or eggplant Parmesan but why mess with perfection?  The dinner salads are huge and the house dressings are all great, especially Rasberry vinigrette....or blue cheese.  Garlic bread comes with your meal and is always hot and good.  The mozzarella sticks are real mozzarella.  The Spumoni is delicious if you have room.  If you want consistently great food and service in Leavenworth, this is the place to visit. My Husband and I had takeout this evening after a long day of moving, and we were extremely pleased! The service was fast, and the staff was super friendly. Their house salad and Italian dressing were so good! My Husband had the chicken parmigiana, and the little ones had a burger and fries (of course).
