Lefty's Famous Cheese Steak Hoagies Grill

Never even heard of this place!  She said someone mentioned it and we should try it since we were out running errands and what-knot and were going right by there. I said, "But of course!"  Now, you must understand that there used to only be one place to get a Philly Cheese Steak Hoagie.  And that was Gabriel's, anyone know Gabriel's on the way to Ypsi, which has been there for at least my lifetime and I'm old.  I almost hate to say it. . .but. . .I have to be honest. . .Lefty's is right up there with Gabriel's!!  I mean. . .I haven't been to Gabriel's in quite a while, but this place rocks some awesome Hoagie!!  Just got the basic with mushrooms, and she got the spicy cherry peppers.  Both were awesome!  It's a tiny little place, as a true Haogie place should be, and very polite and friendly.  Pretty quick as well.  We stayed there and were there a total of about 20-25 minutes.I WILL say they are a bit expensive but hey, for a good Cheese Steak Hoagie. . .might as well pay a little extra. . .!! Stopped in for lunch today after hearing rave reviews from a friend, and Lefty's delivered as promised! We ordered The Winfrey --their chicken hoagie-- and it was jam-packed with flavor and overflowing with messy goodness (see photo). If you like a little spice, I recommend adding cherry peppers! Only downside is that the hoagie was hard to eat without a knife and fork, and the bread got soggy quite quickly which made it fall apart easily. More...

Not the best cheesesteak I've ever had, but they're really damn good! They put a really cool new twist on the cheesesteak with their unique hoagies. I tend to stick with the original for the most part tho. I'm definitely looking forward to trying some of the other stuff they offer.... burgers, coneys, egg rolls, etc More...

The best cheese steak I have ever had! I tried the the big poppa which is really good. The flavor of it is out of this world. I also got regular French fries which were really good. Stopped by for lunch this afternoon and this place is legit!Ordered an 8 inch cheesesteak with curly fries.  The cheesesteak came with peppers and mushrooms and was easily one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had.  The steak was flavorful and juicy and the umami flavor of the mushrooms provided a nice change of pace.  The bun was soft and held up the gooey cheese quite well. My only (minor) complaint would be that the cheese was all towards the bottom of the bun, but it didn't really affect the sandwich much.The curly fries were delectable, crispy and well seasoned, some of the best fries I've ever had and a more than generous portionOne random thing I noticed, the soda fountain isn't serve yourself which is rare nowadays, but really not a big deal.Definitely stop by Lefty's next time you're in Livonia, an overall great experience! This place is a must try if you enjoy cheesesteaks. Probably one of the better ones I've had outside Philadelphia and they have multiple takes on it. The regular cheesesteak is a solid, adding the hot peppers gives it a nice kick. Otherwise, I tried the one if the newer versions with pickles, lettuce and thousand island dressing and I was pleasantly surprised. Sandwiches are hearty and you won't be disappointed. First time going to Lefty's and I wonder how I've never been when I've lived in Livonia for a long time. It's truly a gem. I got the classic Rueben sandwich with curly fries and it's one of the best I've had. It's close to where I work so I'll definitely be by again to try other sandwiches they offer.
