This is by far my new favorite restaurant in San Rafael. Everything on the menu I have tasted is incredible. My very favorite is the Chile relleno. Unlike any I have had anywhere including Mexico. My biggest problem is getting past it to order something new. I've gone with many different people here and everyone loves it. The flavors are complex and savory. This is an awesome find.  Originally we were looking for Brazilian but the closer we looked at menu, realized this has lots more variation going for it.  I had the Carnitas, subbed the carbs for veggies that were mouth watering.  My better half ordered the flank steak with chimichurri.  Glenda our server was super at helping us navigate to lower carbs, but veered having the fried Plantains.  Ask for extra Chimichurri to spread on those for an out of this world exotic Latin Enfused treat!  We'll be back. This place has yet to miss! We've had the Ropa Vieja, Enchiladas, chicken coconut curry, fish tacos--all so flavorful. The only thing I'm not too found of is the coffee--however they get points for the coffee always being extra hot which I love! Ahhhhh-mazing! Out of the world good. Incredible. Super extra yummy! Delicious to the max. What else can I say? The food here is to die for. I have brought three separate people here, and they have all been very impressed with the food. I mean, they were practically speechless. The fish tacos are the best thing to happen to fish tacos. The halibut over risotto and veggies is outrageously tasty. And LaVier does NOT skimp on the potions of fish. I mean, those fish tacos are fully loaded, and my halibut was a really big fillet. A couple of the people I brought had dietary restrictions like being gluten-free or being pescatarian. They had NO problem finding plenty of options to choose from, and they were very pleased with the meals (in addition to the selection). So, it's Latin Fusion... with what? Caribbean? French? Not sure, but the flavors are awesome. The decor inside is a little nuts, though. It looks like a kitschy souvenir shop exploded inside. There are beads and knickknacks and lots of stuff all over. There is not a lot of seating, but I have never had to wait. I am honestly surprised this place doesn't regularly have a line around the block. That said, each dish is $20+ on average, so it's a pretty pricey lunch! Parking is tough because it's on C, but there is a decent public parking lot across the street. Our family of 8 celebrated our mom's 90th last night and the experience was just wonderful. The appetizers (masa ravioli, mole empanada, salad) were fantastic. Entrees equally delicious. I highly recommend the whole fish which was trout. This place is amazing and I love the food here. The chef is creative and talented. I've been here several times and everything has always been fabulous. He made us something special for my friends bday last night and delicious and everyone loved it. It was crab ceviche on a cucumber and he also made us salmon tacos. It was my first time visiting this little gem off 4th Street. Immediately upon arriving I knew this was going to be special. The lush plants outside and the festive, thoughtful decor inside had me very excited. This place came highly recommended, and they did not disappoint. The service was excellent!! The hostess that greeted us was very warm and genuine. I'm not sure if it's a family run place, but they definitely give you the sense of welcoming you into their home and making sure you're very comfortable. The menu had way too many amazing options, between the 5 of us we ordered many things so that we could all try as much as possible, and every single thing that hit our table was "oooooh'ed" & "ahhh'ed" over! Some of my favorites were the popcorn chicken, the plantain appetizer with chorizo, and the lamb!! Omg, that lamb is to die for!! The sangria was also incredibly delicious. I have not had food this good in months.  Every dish was extremely flavorful from the guacamole to the whole fried and stuffed fish to the bread pudding (and I tasted much more).  Heavy lime and salt on some dishes which I like.  Ambiance is funky and quite nice.  Wait staff were very sweet and helpful.  The chef is quite modest and a very nice guy.  This is my new favorite place in San Rafael.  I highly recommend it. We made a reservation on yelp and they seated us right on time. The restaurant is small and eclectic, but the kitchen is full of delicious ingredients for their original and unique dishes. Lots of good flavors here - would highly recommend. Our server seemed a bit rushed with us. My dad and I were looking for a new place to get dinner when I stumbled upon this restaurant via yelp. I'm so glad I did. Great little atmosphere with food to match . OMG. Jardinière may be closing, but just come here! The food, at its best, is just as good--but so much friendlier on the wallet. We has the oysters & crabcakes for appetizers, and we all had the halibut special for the entrees. Flourless chocolate cake and flan for dessert. This is my favorite place in Marin at the moment!The place is super fun with a jungle-like decor. The service was excellent with some of the nicest and most helpful servers I have ever seen. The food was fantastic. I highly recommend the pescado that everyone is posting about, it was made perfectly (only flaw is you have to pick the bones out). The crab cakes were delicious with an amazing spicy sauce. The ceviche had incredibly fresh shrimp. And of course the dessert - the bomba (I believe was the name) - was so so so good! This place was spectacular everything we ordered was great we had two appetizers. The corn boat prawns and the tempora plantains with chorizo. OMG, two must haves. We each enjoyed an entree. I've been to this restaurant on four different occasions (lunch & dinner) and the food has been flavorful and plenty on every visit. I highly recommend the Taco Sampler and Crab Enchiladas (both usually on the special menu and from the regular menu the Bistec de Res and Pescado Asado. Every one of these dishes has the perfect amount of seasoning and spice.  From the Entree Specials Ropa Vieja "Old Clothes" is excellent.  A hearty stew-like dish with deep, rich flavors that tantalize the taste buds!  YUM!  Can't wait to go back!  OH - have the Sangria! WOWOWOW! Please -- if you are even thinking of coming here just come! My main regret/ disappointment is not finding this place sooner. I'm shocked it's not a Marin staple like Sol Food (and the food here is better!) The food is amazingly authentic and full of flavor (plus there's so much variety). The vibe here is also super charming, vibrant, but still classy. :) We got a few things - the nacho fries, popcorn chicken, AND glazed shrimp entree..each thing was incredible but we ended up realizing that it was wayyyy too much food. If you have any qualms about the prices, just note that the portions are gigantic (thus making the prices really reasonable).I love this place and honestly can't wait for my next meal here!! More...

We rarely go out to the same restaurant twice in a year since there are so many but we have gone here twice within a month. Ultimately I think a restaurant experience is not just about the food, although Lavier gets food right, but also about the decor, the lighting, the music, and ultimately the overall experience. There are many restaurants in the entire bay area and this is one of the few that get all of those ingredients right. Too many places are minimalist wood and polished stainless steel cookie cutter establishments with open kitchens and teeny portions. Not only is the food Inventive and attractive but it is also abundant. So make the trek to San Rafael, keep your ear out for the music playing on the street and enter into an all encompassing dining experience. This place is nothing short of AMAZING. Every dish is bursting with flavor and the menu is expansive and incredibly unique. You can't find this kind of cuisine anywhere.My boyfriend and I have been here twice now. The first time we came was by chance. We had the shrimp ceviche, the mole, and the beef stew. We were so beyond impressed that we wanted to meet the chef. He came out and introduced himself. His passion for creating unique recipes that allow for an incredible dining experience was immediately evident. Great vibe and eclectic decor made for a fun dinner. I suggested my friend have the pork chili rellano and she loved it (stuffed herself as it is huge). I tried Guava-lime shrimp after reading yelp reviews and it was delicious! The rice base had a crisp texture and veggies had just a hint of pickled taste. Shrimp were perfectly cooked and delicious. What a beautiful indoor garden and art filled restaurant  and it was all about the fantastic food Mexican Cuban Peruvian mix  but all there own delicious ! ! My girlfriends husband discovered this gem we had so much fun we ordered 3 of the specials whole fish , carnitas plate , stuffed poblano pepper and the Ceveche ! This restaurant was wonderful!  We felt so at home just walking in the door.  It felt like it was a family-owned establishment and so much care was put in to everything that was prepared.  I got the fish tacos and they were so beautifully plated, and the serving so large, I had to use a fork and knife to eat them.  They were so delicious!! Our new favorite restaurant. The food is amazing. If they have the mussels appetizer on special - GET IT. Do not think twice - they are delicious and the broth is perfect. ..served with delicious garlic toast for dipping. The service is beyond friendly and welcoming. Generous wine pours are a bonus. My husband and I decided to try LaVier. Had a great experience! The ambiance was warm and friendly, as was the service. Tried the Mole Empanadas for appetizer. They were incredible! They obviously make their own corn tortillas, SO FLAVORFUL! I had the Ocean Trio Tacos, which were so delicious and filling. My husband had the Chile Relleno Picadillo and he loved it, said it was just the right picante, not too hot but a little kick. Finished off dinner by sharing the creamiest flan I've ever tasted.
