What sets me apart as a life coach and tutor?

Coaching is balance for me, not my livelihood. I coach as part of my larger career as full time college faculty in prison; this is not my full time job. Prison teaching and coaching is full of rewards and unique celebrations, but equally fraught with barriers - even for teachers and staff.

Life Coaching

Lauren is a very gifted coach, who is dedicated to her clients and their journey. Working with Lauren has helped me gain more confidence as I transition from school to work. With goal setting, and her ability to pick up on nuances I have learned so much about myself and my skill sets. Lauren is a wealth of knowledge, resources and kindness, she has been a wonder person and coach to work with. More...

Lauren does a great job of bringing out the important information for your needs. For me I am applying to a new college and she has been giving me great tips on what to look for and what position I want to get when I'm done with college. It's also great to have someone to talk to about your personal information. More...

Life Coaching

I experienced an intro call with Lauren (so this is the free consultation) and it was wonderful! Together we walked through a questionnaire. She listened carefully to my words and encouraged me to give myself all the space I needed to express myself. I felt really comfortable right off the bat with Lauren & was able to share both my excitement and discomfort regarding what I needed help with. She really blew me away with all of the free value she was open to giving during our consultation. Usually these calls are about 15mins and don’t give you enough time to truly figure out if the dynamic between you and the person will work, with Lauren I was really surprised and happy to receive a full hour and lots of support during our call. It felt really good to be able to talk about myself and to be asked questions that helped me make new connections about myself. I really took away a lot of value from our time together and feel like I grew and was able to push past some blocks I had been experiencing. Since our conversation I have even received a manifestation from the universe reguarding what I was wanting help with. This to me is such a symbolic moment that I honestly don’t know would have happened without my call with Lauren. :) More...

I loved working with Lauren because her kind words of encouragement made me feel supported. You can tell she genuinely cares about what she does because she is always going above and beyond to help in anyway she can.

In order to fully understand why getting to where I am is so important, you have to know where I was. So, in 2001 I graduated from high school with honors, spoke at my graduation, and entered university with a scholarship. After my first semester I dropped out because I didn't know what I wanted to do and I just wasn't emotionally mature enough to deal with the rigors of higher education. From there I worked odd jobs until I finally landed in construction. I worked as a skilled laborer and general contractor for 10 years until it basically destroyed my body. I was unfit for the work I was doing and had no marketable skills beyond construction. After that I did whatever I could to pay rent and get by. Lauren came in because I was at a point in my life where I needed a change and she gave off this energy that wreaked of overcoming incredible odds and becoming successful no matter what you've been through or where you're starting from. She spoke to me about a few conception changes and a little bit of work I could be whomever I wanted to be regardless of my limitations. She asked me about my goals and dreams, asked me about what I enjoyed doing, and we started formulating a plan to get there. She taught me about goal setting and work/life balance and she even used her connections at Clark College to get me registered and started on my path towards a bachelor's degree in computer science. I've already achieved a certificate of appreciation in supervisory management, an associate's degree in computer science, and I'm currently attending Washington State University, one year away from earning my bachelor's degree in computer science. I have done freelance work as a computer programmer, and website developer, as well as used my education to land jobs tutoring. I owe all of this to Lauren. She has motivated me, educated me, and has helped me open doors. My trajectory right now is beyond my wildest dreams and I owe it all to Lauren's guidance. More...

Lauren is AMAZING! I have been working with her for a couple years on finding the right career track. She has asked all the right questions. She has helped me use multiple personality assessments to find my strengths and weaknesses. She has taught me a lot about my perceived failures and how to not sell myself short in a career that I don’t love. I would recommend her to anyone seeking guidance on life, health, career, or just general advice! More...

Lauren sees the capability in others before they can even sense it in themselves. Her compassion and patience are beautifully partnered with her ability to teach others how to navigate insecurities and reach for success, even when it feels scary or impossible. As my GED educator she helped me knock down the psychological walls my learning disability had created, restoring my faith in the educational system as well as in myself. Not only did Lauren help me achieve my goals as a student, but she taught me about accountability and the power of self talk. Her belief in me fueled the gradual and now consistent belief in myself. I am so very grateful to have met Lauren and for the strong voice and source of encouragement she continues to be in my life. More...

Q&As

That moment when someone has those first...and recurring!...moments of clarity about their true capabilities. The transformation from "I can't" to "I'm doing it!" never gets old. I get addicted to others' success. I also love training other trainers and tutors; I have experience training and certifying dozens of peer tutors to weave life coaching skills and tutoring skills into their work.

To practice what I preach to my students and clients about never falling into the victim mindset and focusing on what they CAN control, I needed to expand from my classroom to the public in order to share my services with a wider audience, continue to grow as a mentor and leader, and manage a solid professional balance. My "business" is in the works, but my practice is rooted in years of success stories and experience.

I am authentic, flexible, judgement-free, and I do not give up on clients (even if they give up on themselves!); I have unmatched life experiences that set me apart from the crowd. Please read my "about" section for the long list of reasons!

I'm a mom, a student, a runner, a cyclist and a traveler. I have had plenty of bumps in the road. My strongest areas are: wellness, work/life balance, financial health, anxiety, career focus, goals, accountability, education, and putting ideas/goals into action. I have created and delivered classes in self-exploration and financial wellness, and have experience teaching public speaking/coaching as well as goal setting. While I am "faculty" on paper, most of the content I teach and the work I do individually with students falls into the "coach" realm due to the specific barriers and needs of adult students who did not complete high school.

I am effective as a coach because I have personally overcome major struggles in all of those areas, and because I have had a decade of experience applying my skill set to hundreds of individuals.

Yes. I prefer to provide services remotely and have a flexible schedule. I love zoom sessions where I can listen to you, but I know some people are shy and prefer texts and emails, or maybe video messages from me. I love the challenge of adapting to various client preferences.

I've started this post-pandemic. However, I approach all interactions with consideration for social distancing and masks to ensure clients are safe and comfortable. I am fully vaccinated.

Services

My strengths are in: academics, self-esteem, goal setting, resumes/interviews, fitness/wellness, anxiety, time management, boundaries, work/life balance, and financial wellness. Very comfortable working with men and women. Feminist. LGBTQIA friendly.

I am college faculty and have taught and tutored high school level math (GED and high school recovery) and English for about fifteen years. I am most experienced tutoring Algebra 1, 2, and Geometry. I also teach Math For The Trades, which is a little statistics, trig, logic, and Algebra. Lastly, I have designed, launched, and oversee a college tutor training program, which means I train tutors how to conduct life coaching and academic tutoring!
