Latina Kitchen and Bar

My family of three went on a Sunday evening - not too busy - and we loved everything we ordered: the shrimp tostones and pulpo small plates, a sancocho soup of the day with a little bit of everything in it, the fried oyster and spinach salad, accented with pomegranate and pistachios, the plantain gnocchi, and the arroz con mariscos.  Overall delicious and well balanced flavors, and everything cooked perfectly.  Very nice fresh baked bread too.  Pacing of the meal was good, the ambiance was fun and comfortable while also not too loud, and service was attentive.  Some of our plates could have been cleared a bit faster in between courses, but I suppose that's better than having things whisked away prematurely.  One piece of feedback - it was a cold night, and the large amount of windows seem to not be the best insulated, so sitting next to them (on a comfortable couch +++) was rather chilly.  My mom was wearing a cashmere sweater and she was fine.  Maybe I also need to wear a sweater in Boston in December. I felt very compelled to write this place a review because it was OUTSTANDING! Sitting and watching the chefs prepare the food was such a treat. But the food was the show stopper!!! Everything we had was cooked  perfectly and tasted amazing. We were so fortunate to also of had an incredible server. She was so knowledgeable and truly  goes the extra mile. We went to Latina Kitchen and Bar for a quick bite to eat last night and have to say, we were incredibly impressed.   The decor is really well done and it totally adds to the ambience of the place.   We sat at one of two "kitchen view" counters that provide a great view of the vibrant kitchen, but have glass that means you can still have an intimate conversation.  Drinks wise, I had a Jalapeño Margarita which was the perfect level of spice and fruit with very little acidity.   A great cocktail to start.   We both had a glass of wine with our meal from an extensive yet not too expensive selection of wines by the glass. Now - onto the food.   I've saved the best for last!  We took advantage of a few dishes from the Tapas style selection. Everything was awesome!  From the Cerviche, which was perfectly seasoned and left us wishing we'd ordered two, to a beef carpaccio that was superbly presented and flavorful.    We also had a wonderful Octopus salad that bordered on the sublime, although the highlight for me was a Chorizo dish that was cooked in wine - perfectly tender chorizo with a delicious sauce that was eagerly devoured with some bread that, whilst not served with the dish, was happily supplied free of charge.  All in all, this was such a great meal and we look forward to trying everything else out on the menu.   What a great addition to the Needham dining scene.  Congratulations to the owners and staff. Last night I went to try out Latina, one of the area’s newest restaurants, recently opened by a couple from Needham – what a wonderful surprise! On a cold, rainy Sunday evening, walking into Latina at 4:45 p.m. was a burst of warmth – from the greeting from John at the door to our waiter and the chefs working behind the counter where we sat. This place has an earnest vibe of newcomers who really want this to take off. It deserves to. I highly recommend sitting at the counter facing the chefs. A photo is on the website. The dishes are creative and made with the freshest ingredients. I hope they make my dish a regular part of the menu. Based on the ingredients, I expected it to be good, and I was stilled wowed: pepita (Mexican pumpkin seeds) crusted halibut topped with a salsa Veracruz (tomato, jalapeno, olives, capers, cilantro) over a bed of mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. The ingredients in the Latina salad also speak for themselves: baby arugula, hearts of palm, roasted peppers, tomato, avocado, citrus supremes, Vermont goat cheese, lemon vinaigrette. Was both worried and relieved that we could not get table seating and had to sit at the counter. Worried that it would be uncomfortable, and relieved that it was good enough to be fully booked. Actually ended up liking the counter seating, it was a front row to the kitchen and food prep so it was entertaining. Had a caipirinha which was excellent, then tuna ceviche, finally a ribeye steak. Solid experience. All the food was great. We had the beef and chicken empanadas, steak skewer special, olives, ribeye, lasagna Bolognese, and salmon. It was fairly loud in the bar area where we were seated for dinner, but we could still hear each other. Ambiance was great for both couples and families. We are looking forward to eating there again. Great experience, the place was packed on a Friday night. Nice decor, and all the dishes we ordered were excellent. First impression of the food is the vibrant color and fresh fresh fresh. Great flavors, and the dishes were light not heavy. Both meat eaters and vegetarians will be happy with the menu. The cocktails and our selection of red wine - highlighted that evening on the menu - also excellent. We were only two so we reserved countertop seating to share more easily. The seating there is comfy, upholstered arm chairs rather than backless stools. Took quite a while to get the first drink we ordered but after that everything came in a timely manner. Great ambiance, drinks and food!We were a group of six, 4 adults and 2 children on a busy Saturday night. The kiddos (one with nut and dairy allergy) ordered.  The staff was so knowledgeable and accommodating!  We ordered drinks and appetizers. Latina salad, octopus, mussels, and chicken, beef and veal empanadas.  We also tried the veal and the plantain gnocchi and the seafood rice. We went to Latina Kitchen on Tuesday night. Since it was a week night, it was quiet and service was good. Everything we had - ahi tuna and cauliflower appetizers and the Peruvian chicken entree were delicious. The manager approached us twice to see how we liked our dishes. We would definitely go back, but probably during the week again since the reviews say that the weekends are pretty noisy. We appreciate having another good place to eat in Needham. More...

The food at this place is so good, like out of this world good. Everyone was very impressed. Empanadas were great, plantain gnocchi was excellent, and the Peruvian roast chicken is one of the best roast chickens I've ever tried. The desserts were great as well.I also love the decor here it feels like you're eating in a magical forest! Service was great and we all had leftovers for the next day. I think this place has a really interesting menu (Mediterranean - South American fusion) that you can't find anywhere else, great food, and a nice atmosphere. Been there twice now. The lobster crabtini is so delish. I had the salad with steak. One of the best salads Ive ever had. My husband had calamari, fries, cauliflower and it was all soooooo good . Very well done across all metrics. While my shellfish allergy precluded me from trying many things, the kitchen took good care of me. All dishes were great. The Bolognese was a standout (hardly “Latina” but it worked) as was the Salmon and chicken. The side of rice and beans was some of the best I’ve had in a long time. In a word, wonderful. Every aspect of our dinner was a success.  Overall the meal is well paced and relaxing but I would not expect to be able to grab a quick bite here. I came here with my family after a spur of the moment decision on a Thursday night. Although we did not have reservations we were fortunate enough to be seated right away. In hind sight I would recommend getting a reservation since the place seemed to fill up quickly. Right from the start, I felt good about the Latina Kitchen and Bar. I found the hostess and Manager welcoming and eager to accommodate us, with the manager frequently checking in with us to ensure we were enjoying our food. My wife and I started with the house margarita which was well mixed. The Cesar salad was terrific, very fresh not over dressed and even included an anchovy.  I had the empanadas, I chose the beef and vegetable, both were light and bursting with flavor. The entrees were a tad slow coming out of the kitchen but worth the wait.  My wife enjoyed the gnocchi entree which was loaded with flavor and not too heavy. I had the Ribeye which was well seasoned and I am happy to say perfect temperature. They offer a children's menu which has the usual options but are prepared with the same care as the main menu with everything being made from scratch.  In summary, every aspect of the meal was a success. Went there on a Saturday night with a relatively foodie party of six - two couples and our young adult children. Overall, we were really impressed and we are thrilled to have this restaurant in the neighborhood. We will definitely return and overall, we loved the menu and the sophisticated, fun ambiance. We especially enjoyed the empanadas - all three flavors - the yucca fries, the corn cakes, the chicken, and the bolognaise. And they did a nice job dealing with my daughter’s severe allergies (fish, seafood, sesame, and nuts). As others have mentioned, they haven’t quite figured out the service yet. It was a bit slow. And a few items had room to improve. The Latina salad was underwhelming, the tuna ceviche looked lovely but was a little bland - could perhaps have used more salt and lime juice. And the space is somewhat loud. But with a few tweaks to the service and some of the not-quite there yet menu items, this place could earn 5-stars in my view notwithstanding. More...

Excellent service and amazing food. New decor is bright and inviting. We enjoyed the plantain gnocchi, empanadas, sweet potato mash, steak au poive, and sangria. My only recommendation is having more Latin American foods. Although the signage says "Latin American Cuisine", there was a lot of French and Italian items on the menu. I'm so glad this place opened up! I was skeptical as good Latin food in metro west is nearly impossible to find, but Latina Kitchen was delicious! My wife and I got the empanadas (beef, lamb) which were fantastic, the rotisserie chicken w/ sweet potato mashed & fresh veggies (awesome), and the Argentina salad (incredible). The only thing I wouldn't suggest is the salmon which was a bit mundane. Definitely will be back! More...
