Q&As

Gumption, grit, creativity, and a bold spirit. Here’s our take on it: A lot of photographers can explain great photography from a techniques point of view. That’s cool. There are lots of great photographers out there. But clients and fine art buyers don’t care much about the ‘sausage making’ of a great image. They just want to us to capture the essence of the subject: often, themselves. The rules of photography, like composition, angles, lines, colors, textures, framing, etc., are all great and very useful, technically. But having the gumption to go further.
Having the grit to overcome challenges and dig deeper. Having the creativity to interact with clients to find the essence of what they want to communicate visually. And lastly, having a creatively bold spirt to capture inner beauty.

“What is your vision for the final products? What do you want me to capture?”
“What would ‘wowing you’ look like?”
“What is the planned purpose or use of the photos we’ll do together?”
“Are there any required looks, poses, or shots needed to satisfy your needs?”
“Can we do this in a photo studio for better control of the light? Or do you prefer
outdoors for natural light and natural backgrounds?”
“Are there any special effects or props you need to achieve your goals?”
“Are there any budget constraints that might help shape or focus the photo session?”
“What else do you want me to know before we do the shoot?”

Lee: I have always been a person who values visual information. True when I was boy scout as a young boy, learning to navigate with a map and a compass. True when I was a Marine infantry officer traveling around the world and using maps and satellite images to accomplish many different missions. True in my remote sensing satellite engineering work as we produce visual products to solve problems. And intensely true in my side-hustle passion as a lifestyle photographer to help people see themselves differently. Lee: I have also always been a person who values storytelling to connect people together. True as a Marine Corps “grunt” to bolster culture and camaraderie. True as a university professor in finding ways to make complex concepts easier to understand. True as a Chief Engineer managing 100+ members of a technical engineering staff with many different experiences who need to be unified around a complex engineering mission. True as a father who believes in connecting family together to support one another. And true as a photographer: perspective and visual elements tell stories. The Bottom Line: The best part of my job? Unifying the joy of visual information and personalized storytelling for our clients.

Diversity in life goals and tasks and processes and jobs. We mentioned storytelling and visual information as great passions in how to view life. Turning a passion into a business is a form of sharing passion, joy, and skill, and hoping to lift up other people in their own life journeys.

As a company, we will all go the extra mile. Lee once rented a helicopter to photograph a church congregation pouring out of their newly renovated and expanded church; and even from 500 feet up, it was easy to see the joy and passion on their faces. To see the bond that the community all shared together. We will do what it takes for you to get the shots you want. We will not charge you for work you are not happy with.

Yes, we can certainly perform all up-front administrative tasks such as scheduling, planning, and contracting; and also, all back-end tasks such as editing & amp; previewing images, and delivering either digital or print final products online or remotely. This is fairly easy to do, and we have done this for a couple of years.

It goes without saying the photographer and the subject need to get together for the actual photoshoot. But even that can be done very safely, depending upon current COVID protocols. We have performed work masked up, as needed for 2+ years. Changes include maintaining appropriate distance, keeping all Lane Cristin Photography staff masked if needed, and using hand sanitizer and cleaning products to frequently to protect all involved in the photoshoot.
