About

Hello!

My name is Kyle Harwood and I’m currently a student at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. About a year ago I decided to try my chance at becoming a DJ and after some brief mentor ship I set out and did just that. In the last year I’ve had over a dozen opportunities to work with amazing people all throughout the state of Minnesota, I didn’t imagine getting much further than playing a show here or there when starting out but after realizing my passion for playing music to others I quickly began to re-strategize my intentions in the field.

Q&As

It's all about playing to the audience/crowd in front of you as a DJ. Which can be tricky if not given a whole lot of information before the show on what the exact taste of the crowd is, which may require a bit of 'guess and check' earlier in the event to see what keeps people dancing. Once you find the genre that gets people going, you run with it until the end of the night. Switching between the classics and the new hits respectively.

My style is varies from job to job. If I'm performing for an outdoor barbecue, I'm not really on the microphone, just letting the summer time music speak for itself and letting people give requests when they want. If I'm playing for a dance/wedding I'm sticking to either my set list or what the organizers of the event want, taking some suggestions but not all. This means I play all genres across the board.

I love being in front of the crowd and bringing life to whatever event I'm at. My favorite part of every show is having a dance floor full of people jumping and dancing to the music with me. Whether it's playing a popular song or something as simple as "the macarenia" I love the energy that erupts when the crowd and music come together.

I mentored with other DJ services before starting my own, learning the tools of the trade. However I grew instantly tired of having pre determined music and meeting standards that I felt were arbitrarily detrimental to a gig, I wanted the room to breathe and express myself individually as a lover of music. I wanted to be able to improvise on the spot if needed to, to be able to play a song someone requests and not have to say "sorry we can't play that, we don't have it." So I started my own business.

I offer fair rates, play to my crowd and make personal connections with those I work with. I'm not apart of some large DJ corporation that is only in it for the money. I bring passion and energy to whichever venue I come to and am committed to the experience 100% no matter where the show takes place.
