Describe your creative process.
Here are the general steps I take for each project:
1. Conversation with the client – find out what their needs are, gather information about the client and their project expectations
2. Research – who is the target audience, analyze existing designs
3. Brainstorming / Create a Mood Board – consider colors, text, space, contrast, style, feeling, etc. when coming up with ideas for the design
4. Sketch Designs
5. Build sketched designs into the appropriate design program (includes gathering appropriate resources for the design such as graphics and other images)
6. Refine / Request feedback from teammates and other designers
7. Present the first draft to the client and receive feedback
8. Make revisions
9. Repeat step 7, and step 8, if necessary
10. Client approval and delivery
I always keep my clients in the loop throughout the design process and solicit their feedback along the way. With each round of revisions, we should be getting closer and closer to the final product. Their feedback is what informs me of the success of the design during the design process. Following delivering the final product, I like to check in and keep tabs as to how the design is working and data (depending on the project).
What do you love most about your job?
Graphic design’s purpose is to communicate to an audience through color, graphics, text, texture, space, forms, shapes, and other design elements. Typically, the design creates a visual solution to a problem. With this in mind, a graphic designer should be able to establish credibility, create value, and be organized and productive in their design process. Because design is ever-growing and changing, a graphic designer should have a thirst for knowledge, be flexible and open-minded. Communicating visually can be subjective at times, and so taking criticism well and adjusting accordingly is essential to happy clients. Every part of this process as a graphic designer is exactly what I love to do. While challenging at times, I am always growing my skill set and process.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Our jobs are such a big part of our lives – we spend at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week at work and I want to enjoy that time! After some time of reflection and trying to figure out what my calling was a few years ago, I realized that I found joy in creating designs. It’s always been there. It was then that I decided to learn more about graphic design and make it my career.
In my world as a designer, I recognize that there is always something new to learn, incredible people and things to be inspired by, and different ways to evoke responses through color and type.
I love the challenge, the uniqueness of my work, and the people I get to work with.
With a commitment to my clients and skill set (which I am always developing), I strive to exceed expectations.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
My services are offered online and remotely. Most communication occurs via email. Phone calls may also be necessary.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
My business is not an in-person business and so COVID-19 has not affected my customers in terms of in-person safety.
