What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I think the secret to taking a great photograph is to get the client into the right headspace, to the point that the pose I’m asking them to do feels natural. I’ll often get my model into the position I want, then ask them to close their eyes, and from there I lead them through a short breathing technique or meditative visualization. I let them open their eyes in their own time, and snap a shot of them looking calm and confident.

What mood are you looking for?
What about this moment in time are you trying to capture?
Are there angles of yourself you know you don’t like photographed?
Are these photos for yourself, a lover, a family member, or for professional/social media use?
Would you prefer lots of direction or would you like me to stand back as you do your thing?
What do you love most about your job?
I love getting to know such a large variety of people. I try to set up an open and trusting atmosphere during my shoots, and engage my clients in conversations about themselves. I’ve had shoots with strangers in which we go from talking about their job to their view on religion to more sensitive topics like their body insecurities. I think the fact that I’m learning about them at the same time I’m photographing them helps me to better capture some part of their essence.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I’ve been doing photography since college, so the leap to create my own business out of it felt very natural. I enjoy the freedom and flexibility it’s granted me.

The photography I do is unique and cinematic. My style of shooting is easy-going yet quick, and I’m often overflowing with compliments.
