I am an up and coming portrait photographer in Austin, Texas. I am most comfortable with portraits (individuals, children, senior photos, family portraits, etc) but I am open to a lot different types of photography. I recently graduated from The Art Institute of Austin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Photography.

Fantastic! I had a wonderful session with Kara to take professional dance photos for me. The session was super fun and relaxed. Kara is incredibly knowledgeable about photography and knew the perfect timing and location for the lighting to be exact. She gives great instruction and makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera! Definitely book her for your photos! More...

Kara took pictures at my daughter's preschool, and I was so impressed with her ease with the kids, professionalism, and quick turn around. But most of all, I loved the outdoor, natural light photos. Such a refreshing difference from the typical blue backdrop school photos! Thanks Kara! More...

What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Anyone can take a photo, what sets a great photo apart from the rest is composition and lighting. Before I went to school for photography, I thought taking a photo was a simple as pointing the camera at something pretty, focusing and taking the shot. I was wrong. Taking a photo is so much more than capturing something really quickly to be able to remember it. Taking time to account for lighting, composition and setting are what sets professionals apart from amateurs.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What is your timeline? What is the overall concept you are trying to achieve in these photographs?
What do you love most about your job?
I love being able to capture beautiful memories and preserve them in perpetuity.
What inspired you to start your own business?
From a very young age, I loved taking photos. It was not until I was old that I understood what really went into taking photos. Photography is a science. It is the study of light and movement in so much more. I never wanted to be the person that worked from 9-5 in a cubicle on a computer. Photography allows me to be creative and capture and preserve the world around me.
Why should our clients choose you?
I have made it my goal to personally connect with all of my clients. I think of it as gaining friends and mentors rather than just clients. If they can teach me something during our session of share their stories with me, that a home run in my book. If I can provide them with photos that they can share and capture moments in time, then I have hit a grand slam. It is my goal to exceed my clients expectations and have them share my business with their friends and family.
