Q&As

Anyone can press the button and take a picture, but to be great, you have to be able to see what light does. It's the most important part of photography, and it took me years to finally really be able to see it. You also have to be able to compose the elements of your photograph so that everything is balanced and each part works with the other. Finally, you have to have a sense of what the famous photographer Henri Cartier Bresson called "the decisive moment," the perfect instant to press the shutter that captures the moment perfectly.

The more we talk about what you are looking for, the better I will be able to deliver what you are hoping to get. But the most important thing is to establish a rapport with your photographer. Not everyone likes to have their picture taken, and not everyone feels comfortable in front of the camera. But if even you ARE comfortable in front of the lens, nothing makes better pictures than a good relationship between the photographer and their clients.

I often have the privilege of being with people on one of the most important days of their lives -- their wedding day. Other times, I try to reveal the character and personality of my subjects. But I always feel that it is an honor to be able to come into your life and picture you as you are right now. You'll never look exactly this way again, you'll never again be at this particular point in your life or your business. So let's make great photographs to remember this special time.

I have a background in journalism. I worked for quite a few years at the San Francisco Chronicle. When the newspaper industry started to decline, even though I hated to leave, I thought it was time to start my own business, and I've never been happier. It's not the easiest life in the world, but it is very satisfying. I've made wonderful friendships and seen amazing things in the course of my work.

You can get a good idea of the beautiful work that I do by looking at my portfolio website. But here's what the website can't show you: I'm easy to work with, and I pride myself on my professionalism. I do what I say I'm going to do, when I say I'm going to do it, and hopefully you'll think the results are terrific. And we'll have some fun along the way.
