Unfortunately I heard this gym closed down. This has been my cardio/backup gym so it's been a while since I was hear. I was kinda mad to find out that they closed, and when I rolled up to the gym all the signage was taken down and equipment moved out. I was kinda heated till I saw a sign that our membership can be used at MUV fitness down the street. I stopped by and it was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, not too good for people who want boxing/MMA programs, but certainly nicer and friendlier than most commercial gyms. More...

I was reading a one-star review of this gym in Beaverton, Oregon and I was really curious if it was really still an accurate representation of how this gym is.  The review, left in 2011, still shows up prominently on this businesses' Yelp page...so I thought I'd go out there I take a peak.At the time that review was posted, this business was owned by a different entity...now they are International Fitness/UFC Gym.  What I found after researching this gym via a tour and an interview with the weekend manager Zach,  they offer a wide variety of equipment in a clean and spacious facility, clean locker rooms complete with sauna, and an assortment of fitness and martial arts classes at an extremely competitive pricing structure.  In fact, if you want to try boxing, or Brazilian ju jitsu, this is a perfect place to try those activities on.I asked Zach about the one-star review that I had read and he said that although he can't speak for what the gym was like in 2011, they new ownership has created a family-like atmosphere that where they actively develop relationships with best interest of their members in mind.  In fact, while I was there, I notice the warm greetings that members and visitors got as they walked in.We did talk about pricing and one of the things that gyms in general have had a bad reputation with is not being able to stop automatic drafts on cancellation  He acknowledged that has been a problem in the industry and that the UFC Gym is working with a great new company that makes a 10-day notice cancellation workable.  After spending a great deal of time at UFC gym...I'd be comfortable sharing with my friends and family that it's well worth a try out.  In fact, I can't wait to work out at the boxing class. **EDIT 11/27/18: I wrote this review about four years ago after I had been with the gym for some time and took a break for a few years when I went away for work overseas. When I returned in 2016-17, this gym had moved location again to where it is now. It's a huge gym now, in a different location, with all the people I knew who worked there loooong gone, and doesn't really resemble at all what I reviewed four years ago. I'm leaving the review up as I don't want to bash the current employees and management, and because I support group self-defense/fitness classes combined with heavy bag work, something that the western Portland area lacks at the moment. So, if you're interested and looking at joining this gym, go buy a Groupon and check them out!**I've been with this gym for years now, back when it was still under L.A. Boxing. Don't let the brand name fool you - this gym is only about self-improvement, learning something practical, and having a little fun. This isn't a gym that prides itself on being extreme (Crossfit) or a gym that leaves you to your own devices (24HF), here you'll be led through a well-structured, high-energy workout, learning practical fighting techniques from professionals (also, the stress relief from punching bags and actually being good at it cannot be overstated). They continue to have a great group of people leading classes who know their stuff (all professional fighters), friendly people who can always answer questions and joke around. No drill instructors here. No one is going to hop on your case if your knees act up and you can't do some lunges, because we're all there for the same reason. And it is challenging, for sure; each hour-long class is probably going to cost you between 800-1,000 Calories (make sure you hydrate beforehand). You will lose weight. And if you are mindful of your diet, add a little weight training (full selection of free weights and machines available), you will look toned and feel great. As for time, it's a very flexible system; they have a stable weekly schedule of classes online, when I feel like coming in I just check that and stop by for a class. I meant to write this review for a long time now. When I recently had an issue and spoke with the management, they've been so understanding and accommodating with a long-time customer like me that I decided not to put this off any longer. It's the perfect gym for me and I recommend it to everyone. More...

I use to be a member here for two years. It got the job done but that's about where it stopped. I came on non peek hours so I never had trouble getting a machine or bench. Locker room could be a little bigger. Cardio equipment is OK. If they didn't have the downstairs machines it would be extremely limited. I hear they now occupy the old cage area with a UFC octagon. That's a bummer as this was a good area for stretching and kettle bell work. In the end it's definitely no 24 hour fitness (although way back in the day it use to be). It gets the job done. More...

This gym should have at least four stars in my opinion. I believe it's privately owned so there aren't a million members, which is a huge plus for me. Some people may like to socialize during their gym time. I am not one of those people. If you go during peak hours (after work 5-8) it can get pretty crowded but most of the members seem to be pretty courteous. I haven't come across any people without gym etiquette yet. There is everything I need to workout. Weights, racks, equipment both cardio and isolate, and in the training area there are bosu balls, ropes, tires, kettle bells, med balls, etc... And it's open to anyone so long as there isn't a training session or group going. I usually get to use whatever without waiting. The women's locker room is clean, spacious, and empty normally. Recently purchased a year-long membership for $99. Let's break that down: $8.25/month$0.27/day27 cents!! That's cheap, man. CHEAP. After spending a trial-week at 24 at Beaverton I was almost convinced to fork-over a bunch of monies for a membership. They almost got me. Don't get me wrong...24 was fine and the staff were pretty awesome. But then I decided to check out Xtreme Edge. Their free three-day trial had me convinced. In the end it really came down to cost, but the gym itself is decent. No pool or basketball court but let's just remember...27 cents. They have newer machines which actually seem nicer than the ones at 24. It can be difficult to find a treadmill on weekdays between 6pm and 8pm, but it's not as bad as other gyms I've been a member of. Lots of elliptical machines. TVs in front of treadmills and ellipticals. They offer a handful of classes throughout the day. Pilates, Indoor Cycle, UJAM, Kickboxing, Zumba, Bollywood Zumba, and Yoga spread throughout the week. Classes seem to be hit or miss. Cycle was decent. Bollywood Zumba was pretty amazing. They have crossfit classes you can purchase for an additional fee. Regular Zumba was weird and ridiculously crowded. The instructor treated the class like middle-schoolers, waiting silently at the front of the room until everyone was quiet, then commented, "It's always the same people that keep talking even when I'm standing up here." Weird. Later on he stated, "You know what time it is...time to break out your coin-skirts". Of course I thought this was a joke. Nope. People actually brought coin-skirts to put on while slowly dancing in a circle in the dark. This is not your high intensity Zumba class. I probably burned 100 calcories during the 45 minutes I stayed in there and promptly jumped on the treadmill afterwards. Maybe they aren't all like that, but needless-to-say I will not be back to that one. Other than that, everything has been great at my new gym home. The staff are friendly. The facilities are clean. Even during peak times it's fine. 27 cents well spent. More...

I have to give this Five Stars for what it is - a value gym, that was much better than I expected it to be for the money.  I just joined, at an "xtreme" bargain - check their website for specials - and went for my first workout on Saturday . It is spacious and comfortable, and with so much good weight training equipment that I felt like a kid in a candy store.  Which of several types of Lat Pulldown-type machines to use?  Also has free weights and some exercise balls.  It felt clean and well maintained.  Low key clientele of all ages, light and airy with floor to ceiling windows up front, which I liked. The front desk can tell you the less busy times, and they were right.  If you want a gym with a lot of extras - whirlpool, pool, racquetball or tennis, tons of classes - this might not be your best choice.  If you're looking for a utilitarian gym with a great selection of weight equipment and a lot of cardio machines (except no rowing machine, darn it) - at an affordable price -  it's well worth checking out.  I've decided I prefer outdoor cycling as my main exercise, so this is supplemental for me. They do offer a few classes with the basic membership; Boot Camp classes and space are extra. More...
