Hummingbird has the best macarons in town--no competition!It is absolutely stellar to see how much the dessert shop has evolved over the span of a few years, delivering a tasteful and worthwhile experience during each visit! My mom wanted to stop by here. It's in the pagoda building and has lots of desserts beside macarons. We found the inside clean with lots of couches and little tables. Decorating a donut shaped place must be weird.They had a wide selection of macarons in many flavors. They were mostly uniform in size and fill. The macarons are a bit pricy at over $2.50 each, but that seems the normal for macarons in this area. All the ones we tried were delicious. I enjoy perfume-y macarons, since that's a flavor you don't normally get to enjoy, only smell. The rose and lady earl grey were right up my alley with sharp, floral flavors and a lingering taste. I also had an almond one, which was delicious! My mom liked hers... red velvet, birthday cake, and some autumn one with bacon and maple. We both got teas, they have a wide selection and can make them iced or hot. I had a white(?) tea that was champagne rose, I think. I couldn't believe all the flavor it had! Didn't even need sugar. OMG YUM. These macarons are in the middle of the beautiful atmosphere of the temple pagoda (whatever you want to call it, i don't know what it is. ..) anywho. I was in town for Labor Day weekend and stopped by, got a couple of samples, which were all amazing and then decided to get a few to take home to Columbus with me. These macarons are decadent, have a blast of incredible flavors, and were very unique..... and they were baked perfectly. They even had flavors that are specific to the city, so it was really neat! I'm only sad that I ended up getting oral surgery the week I came back, so even with them in the fridge, I didn't get to eat 3 of the 6 that I purchased :( More...

My bf took me here after getting pizza at Benny's and the mall nearby so was pleasantly surprised by this beautiful gem - being near the water, having a very serene and calming vibe to it, and then of course, the view which definitely added to the atmospheric beauty this temple encompassed. I loved the charm this place had, the yin and yang stone art and how pretty it was even on the inside - from the decor, its vibrant colours, and the choice of furniture - some looking antique but with a more modern and comfortable vibe.The only thing I will add was not as pleasant, was that there wasn't any soap in the bathroom, nor was there any extra toilet paper. Overall, the macarons we got were pretty good - I haven't had them enough to compare them to much even though I do like macarons quite a bit, but all in all a worthwhile experience I don't regret! Absolutely delicious Macarons! If you have not tried these unique treats before, Hummingbird Bakery and Desserts is the perfect place to start.  These thin, flavorful meringue cookies are sandwiched together with a flavorful filling. The meringues are what make the cookies unique. They have a smooth, crisp shell and a moist, chewy interior.  Hummingbird Bakery has a plethora of unique flavors and is the perfect setting to spend time with a loved one. I recommend the Cookies and Cream, Pistacio, and Nutella Macarons.  Everything is made from scratch with the finest quality and organic ingredients.  They also have fresh seasonal flavors and many other desserts available.  I remember trying my first Macaron in Germany and these are just as good. This was a very interesting experience for us.  We sought this place out based on the yelp reviews.  We had a little trouble finding it at first, even with the exact address.   The shop is actually inside of a pagoda style building in an Asian styled park.  Who would look for a French desert in an Asian inspired venue?The macaroons were very good and they have a nice selection, but let me be clear....they are EXPENSIVE!!!  Do not go here with your kids expecting to by them some cookies.  At about $2.50 a piece for a confection that is about the size of a dollar coin - you will spend $30 on a dozen that fit in a box that is about 2"x5" (think the box a pound of fudge fits into).A kid/teen would pop one in their mouth and ask for three or four more.  These are specialty treats you'd buy for your grandmother, who would take four or five small bites while sipping her tea.  They are very full of flavor and consumed slowly, you can taste the quality.The cakes looked beautiful- but at $8.50 for a small slice - I just wasn't willing to go there.  I haven't met a cake yet that is worth $100. I am not even a big fan of macarons, but I was at the Pagoda exploring the garden with the three year old I nanny for. She had to use the restroom so we popped in and then had to check out the macarons. I purchased the Black Sesame Strawberry and the Lady Grey. These were both recommended by the wonderfully friendly woman working that day, but I was leaning towards them both anyways due to the flavor profile and how cute the Lady Grey was. I'm still not exactly sure what the flavor profile is of the Lady Grey, but she explained it tasted like Fruit Loops, and it did have a very mellow Fruit Loops taste. The Black Sesame Strawberry was definitely my favorite. What a unique flavor combination! I'm absolutely going to have to go back to try this one again, and to determine what exactly the filling is. I want to say it was a combination of a strawberry jam and maybe some chocolate, but I can't say for sure. Either way, it was HEAVENLY. Make sure to take the stairs or the elevator up to the top. This place far exceeded any expectations I had. I have had macarons before, but there weren't genuine and fresh like Hummingbird. This is a black female owned business, so that makes it even better. The building sits inside a beautiful garden in Norfolk. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked up and realized we were already there. We ordered 12 Macarons for around $24, which is average. Lauduree in Paris is more expensive, and doesn't taste as good either. My boyfriend ordered the vanilla cake. Love love love. I'm obsessed. My favorite macaron is definitely the Biscoff and I eat them like popcorn (yes - it's become a problem) however my husband now understands that those are better than flowers lol Great new building! The pagoda is so cool and such a unique experience for Norfolk! The top of the pagoda has inside and outside seating and I cannot wait to take visitors here! Lemon meringue- mind blowingly good! Sorry- this little bakery is located inside the pagoda! Interesting little place sells desserts, tea & coffee. Very eclectic seating & tables. And you can go upstairs & enjoy the view of the water & garden below. Back to the lemon meringue- it's a tart sized dessert- the crust is thick and deliciously sweet, lemon filling perfection & the meringue on top- toasted and amazing! We alsotried the chocolate-raspberry cake & an everything cookie with oatmeal, peanut butter, raisins, chocolate chips, cherries... Probably more than that! The location is so sweet and beautiful, and the macaroons are to die for! I had the black sesame and strawberry... and let me tell you the fresh strawberries were SUPERB! The almond macaron was just as good... I don't think there is a bad thing there! The only thing that was sad was the price! Hummingbird Macarons & Desserts is lovely place for desserts.  The location used to be at a cute shop on Botetourt Street.  Now it is located at the Pagoda near the Nauticus Museum.  The environment is very calm and spacious.  I got to enjoy having a pot of tea and various desserts each time I visit.  Viewing the garden while eating sweets can be very relaxing.  It is the perfect location for a photoshoot because you have access to sweets for breaks. Also, a great location for a date or just to relax.The macarons are delicious and cute. There are plenty of flavors to try.  The crust of the cookie is crispy and soft.  It's has a good ratio of the filling to the cookie.  After taking a bite, it is a bit chewy but not too chewy.   It has a fluff kind of texture and it does not crumble apart.  The flavors are very unique to try especially since they all have different fillings.  During the summer time, they have Macarons Ice Cream Sandwiches.  The ratio of ice cream to cookie is about 3 times as thick, and it is delicious.There are other kinds of desserts to try such as their red velvet cake, salted caramel crumble, apple crumble tart, various cakes, and etc.  I enjoyed their red velvet cake and lemon tart.  They also offer tea, mimosa, and coffee.  They have a huge selection of teas to choose from.  Always go for a pot of tea if you plan to stay there for a while. Every visit is always an enjoyable and relaxing time.  The staff is very friendly and always welcoming you back.  There is a reward system, which I always forget when I visit.  For every visit when you spend $10 or more, you get a star.  I don't know how many stars to build up, but they did mention a discount after building enough.  Now that the location is at the Pagoda, there is more room to bring friend and share the desserts.  I highly recommend coming here to relax and enjoy a cup of tea with lovely macarons and desserts, Always something new to try out.
