This project was for Home Upgrade Specialist ("HUS") to remove an old wall heater in our home and install a new 35K BTU wall heater, on New Year's Eve. PROS:Price. I'm a very skeptical person. I always check the licenses number, the insurance and the bond of any potential contractor. So when our Specialist (Mr. Leor) gave us a quote which was $474 less than the other 3 quotes we had, I was immediately suspicious that there was some hidden charge or this company would cut corners somehow.  But, it didn't happen.Timeliness. Our Specialist arrived on time to give us the estimate. He had his laptop and once I gave him access to my WiFi he delivered the quote via e-mail before he left our house.  The crew which did the install arrived on time and completed the work in 1.5 hours. (The crew was very quiet and polite.)The Contract.Don't ever hand me a 2nd or 3rd carbon copy of a contract where items are written in chicken scratch (urbandictionary.com/defi…). This contract was delivered via e-mail with specific boxes checked and everything we had discussed was clearly identified. In fact, the only issue I had with the contract was a slight misspelling of the street address! I have a little bit of legal experience and I ALWAYS read ALL of the contract."Value Added Services" Spelled Out In The Contract.My mother really appreciated two of these value added services."Cover floors and furniture with drop cloths" AND"Sweep, dust, and vacuum at the end of each work day".They certainly did cover everything as promised. I don't know if they dusted or vacuumed, but they certainly did leave the place cleaner than they found it. Mom says "Thanks".Cons:I would rather have the price of the permit included in the original proposal. I understand it probably puts "HUS" at a disadvantage because almost every other company does not include the permit cost in the original proposal.Warranty is 1 year labor and 10 years parts. I did have another estimate offering 5 years labor and 10 years parts. We had the old heater for at least 25 years, so this new unit is even half as good, we doubt we will still be in this house by the time a new one is needed.Strange Office Hours. According to the Specialist the Yelp page the office is closed on Saturday. According to the Yelp page the office is open 8am-7pm on Sunday. I tried calling on Sunday at around 2pm and the answering machine said the office was closed. Its seems strange to me that they would be open on Sunday but not on Saturday.My sister and niece enjoyed a toasty New Years Eve.  All in all, I really have to nitpick to find any negatives about "HUS".I would definitely recommend "HUS" for heaters. I would definitely call them again for other things. If we suddenly end up with more money in the budget, we would call them about the front porch awning. Home Upgrade previously did my AC optimization 10 month ago. I contacted Home Upgrade when my AC stopped blowing cold air this week. There was a slight mishap in communication when I called to schedule because I reference the AC optimization report that mentioned I qualified for early replacement of my AC unit. A sales person was sent out instead of a technician. They were able to call a technician and come to my house within 15 minutes after I explained that I was looking for a technician. Sam was dispatched and he was able to identify the issue; low Freon and potential leaking. I had the opportunity to speak to Simon, the owner, and Karen, the manager, to identify the breakdown in communication. Based on the strength of some YELP reviews I called them about a problem with my heat. Â Greg came out on a Friday, his last call of the day, and we spent a half hour walking on the roof just trying to determine which HVAC system belonged to the rental unit I was living in. Â The HOA president was of little help (although she tried really hard) and since its West Hollywood, California, and it ain't that cold at night to begin with, we decided the challenge could wait until first thing Monday morning. Â No charge for Friday. Â Turned out to be a broken thermostat. Â Greg showed up well ahead of schedule and diagnosed the problem quickly, a new one was installed, and the charge for parts and labor was very, very reasonable. Simon, Itai, Joy and Stevie were all great! They coped with us immensely and worked around our difficult schedule. They were incredibly professional and made sure everything ran smoothly for us. They were very attentive, patient, caring, respectful, organized, clean, and most importantly warm during the whole process and made us feel relieved with the issues we had because we knew they would do whatever they had to do and even go out of their way to ensure that we got everything properly fixed and taken care of at the House. Simon came out to do fix of a wall heater thermostat on an old Williams I have had other heating "experts" bs me about for a few years. He just installed the factory thermostat I could only found online. I also told him about my difficulty finding a good  AC unit servicing company and when I told him what I paid $600 to clean compressor and coils, he shook his head and said that should not be more than about $150. So he sent Elia to check and he said this other company also overfilled the Refrigerant and can tax the compressor and he rebalance the pressure. Given their honesty and genuine help, I will use them in the future to  service and eventaully replace my unit, but they are on track to keeping it working right. But I also will one of the first I will ask to bid on my next tenant unit renovation of a small kitchen/bathroom . They are also experts in mini splits which I hope to put in at that time. I hired Home Upgrade Specialist to perform pre-purchase home HVAC system inspection. While I did not meet any employees in person as I was at work when our heater was fixed, I spoke with a customer rep via yelp message named Stevie. She responded quickly and assured me that they could assist us even though we didn't really know what was going on. We got an appointment within 5 days (when the next socalgas availability was a month away, in a 55° condo ). Is this just another review raving about Home Upgrade Specialist? YUP! This is going to sound familiar if you're looking at other reviews, but as it happens I needed A/C repair ASAP and sought someone, anyone to help! I made an appointment with another company, their technician showed up and made it seem like I needed an overhaul without doing any detailed examination. Then the up-sell came and the whole thing just felt off. I said thanks but no thanks, used yelp's quote system and H.U.S. got back to me super quick. The next thing I know I was talking with Itai who was very friendly, flexible, and knowledgeable. A day later, their local technician Greg shows up to the appointment and efficiently gets to work replacing the fan motor, refilling the coolant, and testing/re-testing the whole system. It was a little more expensive than the estimate but all in all I was happy with their work, ethic, and efficiency. Highly recommend and will definitely contact this team again for their help! They are the real deal!! Â We decided to install a mini split system in our apartment. I met with several installers and got estimates, but this company stood out from the beginning. From my very first interaction with Tom and Noam, I was impressed by their knowledge, thoroughness, courtesy, and professionalism. After our initial meeting and getting the estimate, Tom took the time to make a video, specifically for me, demonstrating a new installation of a mini split system so that I would have a clear idea of what they would be doing in my apartment, should they get the job. (None of the other installers I met with followed up, by the way). Â Their estimate was competitive, so I decided to use them. The installation process was handled professionally and all questions and concerns that I had post installation were addressed immediately. Leor was great! Â Installed a mini split air conditioner in my guesthouse and I am so happy with the whole process. Â I had several estimates and decided to go with Leor for many reasons. Â Response was great, price was fair and Leor did everything that I asked of him. Â Immediately emailed me detailed estimate, answered all my questions (and I had many), and was very flexible with scheduling. Â He went the extra mile to find me a unit that had a wifi remote controller when I decided that I needed one at the last minute. I CAN NOT Recommend them more highly! Our air conditioning went out on a weekend. We have awful home repair insurance that estimated 2 weeks to fix our 20 year old home Central air system. Â We live in a home that is all windows with a Baby and its 93! Â I called Home Upgrade Specialists at 3 pm after the warranty company left. The owner was on with me by 3:30 and at my house by 4:30pm. He had a bid to me asap and a crew was at my house by 10 the next day. Very nice experience with this company, and also with their technicians.I got a phone call advertising their insulation service while I was looking for people to fix my AC, which blows but doesn't cool. We then made an appointment about my AC and they came in checking verything and left me a fuse to replace the one I accidentally blown while I was repalceing the thermastat myslef. They give me a few solutions about some improvement I can do by using the LADWP promotions. We made another appointment to check on the AC first. Then they came in and refilled the floron after a leak check. The wiring between the AC and the thermastat was messed up 10 years ago before I moved in, but specialist Sam came in and magically fixed it, then they installed the nest for me. I recently had an issue with my central air unit not cooling my condo. I found their profile on Yelp, while doing a search. Karen was quick to respond to my request for a quote, and was able to get me an appointment with a technician the next day. Greg was our technician, he was so friendly and professional, and arrived on time. Greg was wonderful. He was so knowledgeable and helpful. He took the time to explain everything to me, and I must say that I learned a lot in such a short time. It turned out to be an issue with Freon, my unit was empty. He made an appt with me to return the next day, to make sure that it wasn't leaking Freon. No leak, and the A/C is running very well. I will be contacting the company in a couple of months regarding the LADWP Optimization program that he suggested to me. The price was really reasonable. Our tenant unit central AC has not been cooling to the desired temperature and seemed to be blowing weak. Â We called Home Upgrade Specialist after seeing good reviews on Yelp. Â The technician came out quickly and diagnosed the problem as not having enough coolant with possible leak in the system. Â After adding six pounds of coolant, the system is back to normal and working. Â He was knowledgeable and we are happy that the problem is not more than this. I used this company last year as a part of LADWP AC Optimization program. I didn't end up using my AC that much this year and only realized recently that the AC is no longer cool. I called the technician who came last time and he had the main office call me to schedule an appointment to assess the problem the next day. Unfortunately due to miscommunication, the company sent a sales person and I quickly realized that he wasn't going to assess the problem with my AC. The company was able to quickly dispatch a technician the same day at $65/visit to assess the situations. Sam the technician was able to identify the problem with my AC; low Freon, possibly leaking. Sam was able to fix everything within an hour of arrival. I spoke with Simon, the owner, about the miscommunication and he was very apologetic. After reading other horror stories online about getting ripped off (and weeding through others that seemed to be filled with fake reviews), this place seemed legit. And wow, these guys were pretty awesome! I called Home Upgrade Specialists yesterday afternoon after my AC stopped blowing cold air, on a 90 degree day. Sam came today to fix the problem. He was awesome. Replaced the old part in my AC unit that was affecting the fan strength which made a huge difference. He also did an "AC optimisation" that LADWP pays for - which includes filling the unit with freon, replacing the air filter, and installed a WiFi based thermostat - all for free!
