Healthtrax are corporate clowns. Avoid this gym.
My story: I was a good member of Heathtrax for many years. Healthtrax corporate ran a special renewal offer that gave me free months of membership if I paid for a year in advance.
This was when gyms were struggling, so as a good member/show of support I renewed. Soon afterwards, Healthtrax announced they were closing my North Haven, CT gym. I was saddened by the closing, and since no other Healthtrax locations were convenient I asked for a refund of my prepaid membership. The fun began and they hit me with two good shots. The first was that, "Healthtrax does not issue refunds. Petition the state of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection for a refund." Ouch!! Healthtrax forced me to prove to the state of CT that they owed me money, which jammed forms and red tape into my life. The second sleazy shot (really below the belt) was that the free months they used as a renewal incentive are tacked onto the end of my membership. They said, "Your paid months are the first months we use. The free months are at the end. So sorry, no refund for free months." This is like a bank giving me a free toaster if I open a savings account, then stealing it back when they move the bank branch location. This "take back" is very, very shady.
If you must go to this gym, then never pay these crooks in advance.

Only used for Aquatic Therapy, but the locker room was very clean and same with showers. Staff constantly cleaning with bleach, which put my mind at ease when I forgot to bring shower shoes to walk from locker room to the pool deck.

Most of the gym goers here are older; everyone is nice and open to conversations. The gym is very clean and well maintained. The gym is outfitted with a machine section for cardio (treadmill-types), a machine section for strength building, a stretching section with mats, and a free weights section with dumbbells bench weights and barbells.There is a salt water lap pool with 2 lanes, a warmer pool for aqua exercises and new swimmers, a hot tub, and a sauna. This Newington facility, is designed for all ages. They even have a room for your children to stay, under supervision, while you work out. There are specific areas for stretching, weight lifting, aerobics, handball, swimming, basketball and group workouts.All the trainers are certified, extremely helpful , and very friendly. Healthtrax also participates in the Silver Sneaker program. Healthtrax also provides individual training which is outstanding. They will tailor your workouts according to your physical abilities. Have been going for over two years now. I go to the group classes 2-4 days a week, depending on my schedule, and love the variety of what's available and the enthusiasm of the instructors. I have attended Zumba, Power, Kickboxing, Fight, and Active. I never felt judged or uncomfortable when I was new to any of these classes, the other gym members are very nice and supportive of "newbees", and the instructors help explain what to do along the way without showing things down too much for the rest of the class. At times I've also used the elliptical machines.There are regularly people using the pool, sauna and cardio equipment, as well as the weights, which are spread out thought the gym. I love going to Healthtrax fitness for the group classes. I tried the pool aqua fitness last year and it was great except I could not take the chlorine in the water. I had intense itching on my skin and it ruined my swimsuit. The white fabric in my swimsuit turned yellow and one 40 minute session in the water. More...

I basically just used this gym for the cardio and weight equipment, but it was nice! Everything was kept clean, and I had no complaints. I wish the prices were a little cheaper, but I think they're fair for all of the other amenities and classes they offer. Friendly staff and tons of options make this gym a good option for those in the area. I mostly used the cardio equipment along with weights, but they also have a pool, a track, tons of classes you can partake in, daycare on site, racket balls courts, a basket ball court, ect. . The locker rooms are also well layed out. It was easy to sign up and to leave too which is a plus.
