A big shoutout to Jordan, our server! He made the night. Started out with detailed suggestions and explanations of the menu--which were all on point. Cornbread, peanuts, gumbo, and berry cobbler were unforgettable. Jordan then hit another home run by saving my Invisalign from getting thrown away. Will be back and sure hope to served by Jordan!!! This place exceeded all expectations. Everything, cocktails, food, ambiance, and service was on point. We especially liked the smoked trout with mini pancakes. We also tried the chopped steak and fried oyster dish which was almost as good. The only disappointment of the evening was that we planned our meal a little to early to align its finish with the 8:00 opening of the homey Old Man Bar. We did pop in to check it out and will plan appropriately next time. More...

My niece was celebrating her 40th birthday, and chose Hatchet Hall.  She had been following HH on Instagram for awhile and was looking forward to sharing this experience with us.  We arrived at 8pm and were greeted warmly and seated immediately.  We waited and reviewed the paper menu - dated for today as it changes often.  We discussed options.  No waiter, no water, no acknowledgement.  We talked a bit more, but when others were getting seated and having their order taken after us, and the wait hit nearly 20 mins, I went to find the man who greeted and seated us.  He asked how it was going and I told him: we have not been approached at all and it was bringing down the celebratory mood of our special occasion.   He said he would take care of it.  And he did!We were immediately approached for our drink order and given a tall bottle of water for the table and then our server Susie came and told us she was new and apologized for the delay.    We ordered our dishes and she explained they may come out in stages.  Susie was very attentive for the next hour and a half, returning often to check on us and refilling table water bottles just as they came empty.  She was friendly and smiled and took good care of usThe food was very flavorful, fresh, and amazing!  We had a variety of dishes to share: warm salted rolls and butter, warm dates (amazing!), roasted peanuts and smoked trout with mini griddle cakes.  We ordered roasted game hen, crusted pork chop and squid.  The finishers were the key lime pie and the peach and berry cobbler with lemon ice cream (this was soooo delicious).I asked for the man's name (Jonathan) and thanked him for taking good care of us and turning around our evening so it was a really enjoyable occasion.Highly recommend! Hosted an 11 person dinner and we were well taken care of. The private room is a great size for a large group and the staff was very attentive. The food was incredible, with standout items being the roasted sea bass, tomato peach salad and creamed corn. We asked beforehand for some items to be made vegan to accommodate dietary restrictions and the chef team did a great job accommodating our group. The cocktails and wine selection were also great and we ended the night with a drink at the old man bar. Overall a fantastic experience and we look forward to hosting another large dinner there! To call our Sunday dinner a spectacular, sensational Southern feast would be a severe understatement. It was probably one of the most amazing food experiences our friends and I have shared together in our history of dining all over Los Angeles. My husband and I each ordered the fried chicken dinner as there was a minimum of 2 orders per table. The fried chicken plate came with piping hot fluffy dinner rolls, super creamy mashed potatoes with gooey gravy and braised greens which had a slightly bitter taste but also had a bit of a salty aftertaste from the bits of possibly bacon or ham which provided a nice contrast. Additionally, it came with a side of cole slaw lightly dressed, not overpowering or over saturating the finely chopped vegetables. The star though, not surprisingly, was the plate of fried chicken which was perfectly fried and seasoned. The skin was super crispy and lightly seasoned. The meat of the chicken was piping hot and unbelievably tender. Unlike other fried chicken establishments, Hatchet Hall's chicken was not oily or greasy. These are fighting words, but I am going to have to declare their chicken as the best fried chicken I have ever had and I have eaten quite a few in my lifetime. Not to be outdone, we also ordered a few items outside of the Sunday through Wednesday 6-7 p.m. fried chicken special. There was a side dish that looked interesting on the menu called spoonbread with wood roasted mushrooms, herbs including dill and Parmesan. We were enamored, enthralled and salivating over this dish, because of the incredibly unique flavor combinations. It was savory, herbaceous all combined in what seemed to be a very moist cornbread concoction. In addition, we also ordered a side of the smoky and charred grilled blue lake beans with mushroom vinaigrette and fried shallots which were fine but sadly, paled in comparison to the spoonbread. Last to arrive of our main entrees was the whole fried sea bass. We were told that we got the last sea bass of the night which was confusing since our reservation was at 6 p.m. and they had just opened. What arrived was a pescatarian's dream. It was perfectly fried on the outside, with a crispy but not oily exterior, leaving the meat of the fish moist, flaky and easy to pry off the bones. The parsley, chili and lemon sauce added a layer of dimension to each bite. We finished off our meal with a piping hot peach cobbler topped with ice cream as well as a slice of chocolate cheesecake. The cobbler was perfect, not too sweet, hot but not scolding with a slightly burnt and crispy bottom, cooled off with a scoop of vanilla, melting into the crevices of the cobbler. The cheesecake had an Oreo base with chocolate cake, a creamy custardy layer and a chocolate mouse. It was deliciously light and ended our experience on a decadent note.Sunday dinner at Hatchet Hall should not be missed and is an experience that is without a doubt life altering. Get there early as the fried chicken dinner olasts an hour and also to order the fish while it's available as it's apparently in short supply but in great demand. Thank you, Hatchet Hall, for giving us a 5 star dining experience! More...

Cute restaurant to get some delicious food! Its a family style place with a southern flare. My favorite dishes were: -spoonbread with mushrooms The spoonbread is like a salty egg pudding, seasoned with chives. It was super tasty with the addition of mushrooms tossed in different herbs. -octopus with beansThe octopus was very chewy and nicely cooked. The beans, onions, and fennel were caramelized and the subtle salsa brought each ingredient together!-summer squash gratinDifferent squash pieces were baked with bread crumbs and pistachios. It's a little oily but the veggies were great with the crunchiness of the nuts.-cream cornIt was a little more runny than your traditional cream corn but it had an interesting lemon zest taste that gave this a twist! I also tried other dishes such as their famous milk rolls and pork ribs. While the milk aroma was really strong, the milk rolls didn't really stand out to me. The pork ribs looked really good but were a little dry when I tried them. The peach cobbler was also really good because the crispy parts of the pie complemented the ice cream really well, but the peach was a little too sour for me. The decor was also really cute: a nice, well-lighted outdoor seating area with lots of plants around. Table on the inside had little candle lights and cute wooden chairs. The subtly colorful decoration of the plates matched the overall vibes. Overall it was a great dining experience! I loved being able to try a bit of everything. With that said though, I can see how going with a small party can limit their yummy menu. More...

Honestly the classiest and coolest restaurant I've been to in a while. Designed with Southern-style farmhouse accents, this spot is so cute and romantic. I tried the fried squash flowers, the octopus, and the quail. As someone who doesn't typically go for quail, I have to say this is the dish that stole the show. So succulent and flavorful without being overly fried as well. The octopus was also super tender but I almost wish it was slightly more crispy on the outside. The squash flowers were good but I probably would skip them next time as the salmon confit inside made the overall taste a bit fishy. If you're going to go for a cocktail, definitely try the bird of paradise. It comes in a huge cocktail glass with a garnish that makes you feel like you're poolside somewhere tropical. And it tastes delicious. For dessert, you simply have to try the peach cobbler. Tying in that Southern theme, this restaurant clearly prides themselves on this peach based desert and it does not disappoint. So so delicious. More...

My friend and I spent almost three hours eating and talking. The service was very attentive without being annoying. I felt as if I were in Europe, where waiters allow you to stay over a glass of wine and are not removing  your plate as soon as you you are done. ....Although I'm not a huge fan of meat, and have Celiac, there were several truly delicious items on the menu. The suggested wine was exactly what I had imagined it to be, the service was very good, and the food was delicious. We sat at the edge of the indoor- outdoor seating, and at peak time it was a bit loud. Maybe not the best place for a cozy dinner, but nevertheless, I would highly recommend it if you like hearty meat dishes. My friend and I spent a very enjoyable time over drinks and dinner. More...

I really like Hatchet Hall overall. It's one of the best restaurants in the Culver area. Food is solid and rich with flavor. PROS: The corn bread, octopus, and steak are always SUPER delicious and consistent. Never bad. Always get those 3 items if you can! CONS: SO loud inside. It's hard to have a conversation with someone who is directly next to you, but there is a patio section which is much quieter if you need it. Also, I've had the pork chop here a few times, and when it's done right, it's amazing. BUT sometimes, they overcook it though :( and that's when it's sad.NOTES: There is a valet ($8 cash, $9 if you use a credit card. I think that's even after validation....).
