As someone with thick, unmanageable curly hair, it's really hard to find a good salon, let alone a good stylist. That's why I was so happy when I found Lauren at HairTheory! I came in last May looking for a change from longer curly hair, but wasn't quite ready for a short cut. Lauren somehow understood exactly what I was looking for, even though I didn't, and gave me a cut that comfortably lasted me until last December. I got many compliments that it was the best cut I'd ever gotten.This January I went back ready for my first pixie cut. Again, I came with a few ideas of what I wanted but no exact plan, other than short!, and Lauren had the ability to execute exactly the kind of cut I was envisioning. Not only that, but each time Lauren was able to give a cut that spoke to my personality as well. LAUREN IS STILL THE BEST!Since I got my first haircut at HairTheory (formerly A. Quinn) in October 2015, I lost my job, my boyfriend left me, my teeth fell out, and I joined a collegiate a capella group. Even so, after several years of scrimping, saving, and begging for scraps outside the Fly Club for Gentlemen, there was no doubt as to where I'd be spending my precious, hard-earned $70 (+ tip): Lauren, you're an absolute wizard and you've done it again! I went here based off of a few recommendations for salons specializing in curly hair, not expecting much. My free consultation was quick and easy, and Lauren Tocci was more than receptive, welcoming, and helpful to my ideas. She even did a test run on my hair before I came in for my actual appointment. I am only here for a few days but I needed my hair done badly. I took a chance and went to this salon. I had seen the reviews on yelp (which were really great)  and it was close to my hotel (which is in Harvard Square), so I decided to give it a go. The reviews were right because Jacqui did a superb job! She matched my color perfectly and the highlights she put in were beautiful! Arthur is absolutely wonderful. I have long, thick, curly/wavy hair that never seems to do anything other than puff and frizz, and he gave me a terrific cut that reduced the puffiness  better defined my curls. Just had a perfect experience getting my hair cut by Arthur.  He was very patient and kind with me while I worried over the look I was going for but couldn't describe well, and then he just did it, beyond my expectations, kind of magically.  I have very curly hair and I've gotten a bunch of Deva cuts--dry cuts-- and now I actually don't think EVERY curly girl needs that.  He wet my hair before cutting it, then spent minimal time styling it, without all the Deva fussiness and time and that greasy wet look they send you out of the salon with.  Will always come back to Arthur.  Such a find! I was getting tired of making the trip to Newbury St and leaving 2 hours later and $100 poorer with a fancy blowout I didn't even want, so I tried A. Quinn and loved it! I came in for a cut with Arthur, and it was the easiest, most stress-free haircut I've ever had. Arthur is funny, soft spoken, and no-nonsense. He washed and cut my hair, then dried it the way I do, with some product and a diffuser, and I left looking like myself. If you're lucky, you'll hang out with the owner, who's a witty gentleman who takes pride in a perfect haircut. I asked him for some advice after stating how I like a slight fade to my length. He trimmed the top, started primping other details and asked about the length. I said "a little shorter." He proceeded to buzz much shorter on the sides and said "this will look better on you." Holy hell: I nearly lost it not knowing what to expect from that moment. Add another 25 minutes and he had given me the most stylish haircut I've had that also fits my look. It's 3 weeks later and it's grown in a great way, like he said it would, and is now my go-to barber. For background: I'm a nearly-30 y/o guy that aims for tech professional meets slightly hipster charm style at times and I refuse to go to Supercuts. Ipso facto, I try out new places like this. This spot is perfect. Fair prices, thoughtful staff and consistent quality. I've worked with a few different stylists as my calendar allows and they've all done wonderfully. NOTE: This is only a review of products availability. I have never gotten my hair done here. I went here a few days ago to buy Ouidad products, since the Ouidad website said that they would be available at A Quinn. I was expecting to have a more extensive selection of products, and also more than just the 2.5 oz size creams and conditioners that exist on their wall. I actually was not able to get either one of the products that I had initially come in for because they either only carried them in sample sizes or didn't carry them at all. I wouldn't come here for hair products again -- will probably just stock up when I'm back in New York, which is such a shame. FYI: I would have rated this less than four stars if they only sold hair products, but because this is a salon first and a retailer second, I couldn't do that. More...

4 years. It's taken me 4 years to finally find my salon. I really encourage anyone to come here. I went there today and told Arthur (cuz I'm that type of annoying client) "I'm not really sure what I want, but maybe this, or that. ..". The most quick and efficient hair cut ever. This place specialists in curly hair and they understand my curl troubles . I had Lauren who is amazing! It's the first time I felt like a hairstylist knew my hair and when she styled it curly she taught me some great techniques. It's a little on the pricey side- this isn't super cuts people. We took our 16 month old for her first haircut. It was with Jessica. I was hesitant at first because my stylist is Paula who I love btw, but she doesn't cut children's hair. Jessica was an absolute delight. She was warm and kind, and gave us great advice on what to do with our little girl's hair. My daughter was as cool as a cucumber throughout the haircut, no screaming, crying or even squirming. At the end, we were so happy with her hair, and even more thrilled because Jessica offered the haircut for no charge. She said it was so simple and easy that she'd like to give it on the house. I've been going to this salon for 5 years and have always had excellent experiences - I have really curly hair and used to get Ouidad cuts regularly.  I've gotten highlights and ombre here.  I now do Keratin, so I get straight haired person cuts.  I've been to several different stylists as well.  They are excellent listeners and actually do what you ask for.  Everyone is always friendly and professional.  Extra bonus, you can get Berry Line afterwards (it's right next door)! I've been coming to A. Quinn for almost a year now and I see Lauren each time I go. I have wavy hair but prefer to wear it straight, and Lauren does a great job every time I go. I don't think I've ever walked out of a hairdresser and thought "this is exactly how I wanted my hair to look." but here, it's perfect every time. I moved to Boston a few months ago, away from a wonderful stylist I adored. I was very fearful to try someone new. But my short, curly hair was getting scraggly. So, on the advise of a friend, I called up A. Quinn and made an appointment with Dorrit.Disclosure - I went for the straight-up (no pun intended) hair cut, not the specialty curly cut, and there was never any pressure to upgrade.I am thrilled with my haircut. Dorrit was easy to communicate with and delivered precisely what I asked for - an angled bob that's soft and curly in the front, severely short in the back. The shape of the bob is such perfection that I keep picking up my hand mirror to admire it at home. Can't say enough good things here. I had Cara/Kara, and I will definitely be back to see her. My request is always simple: get rid of the dead ends without making it drastically shorter. Every time I ask this, though, you'd think I was asking to move mountains--it was always to short and not styled enough! At A. Quinn, she did a great job on my hair, not only getting rid of the dead stuff, but styling it in a way that fit my hair type perfectly. It's certainly no bargain, but worth every single penny. It took me two years to find a good stylist after moving to Boston, but here I would trust anyone on staff to do a stellar job.  I've seen at least 3 different stylists here and their work was always impecable, I've been seeing Jessica most often and usually ask if she's available first just because she's also super nice.I've got very thick wavy hair, so it's essential to find a stylist that knows how to lighten it up while bringing out the waves.Prices are pretty good considering the quality of the work, the salon isn't fancy, but perhaps that's how they are able to keep the prices as they are. I have a wavy hair and  was looking for a short haircut. Kara started with an evaluation of my hair type and growth direction, head shape and styling habits. She gave me a great cut following very closely the pictures of what I was expecting. She takes her time to finish the cut introducing final correction after blowdrying my hair.
