We are members of 868, the winery associated with Grandale, so we had to check it out. We went in for "brunch" on a Sunday. Their menu is basically the same for brunch but they had like an egg special or something. I don't recall because we didn't order it. We started with the smashed crab cake. It was very good, lots of crab, not lots of bread. It is quite small though, for the price. The corn milk salsa was sooo good! My husband had the blackened catfish sandwich and said it was very good but spicier than he thought it would be. He said would order it again. I had the hangar steak salad and it was great. The steak was cooked perfectly and the salad had just the right amount of blue cheese for the extra tang. Our daughter ha the sesame crusted salmon salad and ate every bite. We had a bottle of wine for the table as well. Our server was nice but not very attentive. She didn't ask if we wanted to try dessert and she never asked if we wanted more wine. But she was pleasant. We had made a reservation because you never know around here, especially when it comes to brunch, but I don't think we would have needed it at that time. There were a few other parties in the restaurant but it wasn't crowded. The food was good, as was the wine. It is a small menu but worth it. I think the ambiance will be even better in the winter with the fireplace going. More...

Below you will find the email I sent to Chef Author after my experience working with the catering staff at Grandale. As a wedding planner, I couldn't have asked for a better staff and service for the event I coordinated on Sunday. They were wonderful!_____________________________________Hello, Chef Author!I had to take a moment to share some feedback with you about your team. Grandale is the first, true full-service caterer I've worked with during my time as a professional planner. So many caterers claim to be "full-service". Your team not only defined the term, but they went above and beyond. From the moment your staff arrived on site, I recognized how thorough they were with every single task, large or small. As I watched them set up the ceremony chairs efficiently and meticulously, I was thrilled that I didn't have to even check in on the setup. They ensured everything was set up as discussed and it looked amazing. This work ethic continued throughout the night. No matter what popped up, it was handled graciously and precisely. I couldn't have asked for a smoother night in regards to the catering team. At the end of the night, they even broke down the event space in record time! I couldn't believe it. They were fantastic! And now, I'd like like to speak specifically about Sarah Thompson. As I noted, she is amazing. I told her last night that when I work with Grandale in the future, I only want to work with her on the day of! She was the epitome of professionalism at the wedding. She was phenomenal to work with prior to the wedding as well. Although I know I drove her crazy with the constant updates, changes, and challenges, she was incredibly supportive and helpful through it all. I wish every caterer I worked with had a "Sarah Thompson" on their team. You're lucky to have such a great person working for you. Thanks for everything. The staff was great. The food was phenomenal. I appreciate everything you and your team did for the couple! I can't wait to refer your services to others! More...

Lovely setting at 868 Vineyard. Five-star cuisine at four-star prices. Lamb meatball appetizer, crabcake entree, lamb loin entree, and chocolate truffle desserts were the best we've had anywhere and beautifully presented. I'll post photos if Yelp allows. Try the flight of four wines of your choice for $13, then order a glass (or bottle) of your favorite. We especially liked the Meritage and brought home a bottle. Worth the drive from Alexandria. Enjoyed a lovely lunch at Grandale. Enjoyed the most perfect Maryland blue crab crab cakes. The crispy crust with the best balanced flavored crab cakes. Pro tip: no fillers used and real crabmeat!! 3i had the 5 flight and glass of 2016 canvas white. The brunch special was delicious. Strawberry crepes with bacon and eggs. Extremely shocked and delighted to see the scrambled eggs used real eggs versus boxed eggs. The wine is well paired and delicious overall. We finished our meal with the creme brûlée (key lime) and truffles. The two were BOTH exquisite. Particularly the truffles. Omgggg talk about drool worthy. More...

Grandale catered our daughter's wedding weekend this past weekend. I am not over stating in using the word perfect. Misty, our event coordinator handled all of the many moving parts of a weekend of festivities at Tranquility Farm with humor, grace, and precision. Chef Author and his staff created beautiful, delicious and unique meals as well as being very careful with some serious food allergies we had among our guests. The staff were all very helpful, yet unobtrusive during the whole set of events. We loved the ease of working with Grandale, their flexibility in dealing with some of our ideas and their helpfulness with our many questions throughout the planning process. First of all, the beef rib poutine is on point. I have never in my life had a dish in which every single thing in the plate was perfectly done. The yams were soft and warm but crispy on the outside, the ribs were tender and flavorful, and the sauce and cheese crumbles brought it all together. The BLT was amazing too, from the bread to the pesto and the generous amount of bacon. The charcuterie board was great, and the cuts were high quality. If you're out in rural Purceville, I'd say this place is worth a visit!  The dining room was a little chilly, but I enjoyed the crackling fireplace and the views of the mountains through the window were breath-taking.  We saw the owner switching out the menu in the window at the end of our meal for the winter menu.  I appreciated their use of seasonal ingredients. We started our meal with the cheese plate, which included two cheddars, goat cheese, bleu goat cheese, and a Spanish farmer's cheese.  It came with a variety of crackers and bread.  I also started with a cup of the seasonal soup, which was a veggie, white bean, and chicken stew.  We all enjoyed the starters! For the main course, I had the baked polenta topped with duck and stewed cherries- fantastic!  I practically licked the plate clean!  The DH had the hanger steak with wild rice and spaghetti squash, which he enjoyed.  His parents had the pork with cous cous.  They ordered the wine flight, which interestingly came in test tubes.  I had the beer flight- my favorite of which was actually a sparkling pumpkin cider- sweet and spicy (YUM!), but it also included 2 IPAs, and a lager for those who like things more hoppy. All in all, a great meal with a beautiful backdrop! We decided to go to Grandale at 868 Estate Winery for Sunday brunch, while trying catch the last of the colorful foliage before the leaves fall. Reservations are recommended due to the small seating area.  There were a lot of people seated when we arrived and I was a little concerned that our food would be delayed. Not the case!  Appetizer and meals came out right on time. The fresh bread was delicious. We ordered the pumpkin gnudi for an appetizer, filet mignon benedict and crab cake benedict.  The pumpkin appetizer was fabulous, steak and crab cakes were prepared wonderfully.  The poached eggs were a bit inconsistent, one being a bit undercooked. The two appetizers, the duck and the pumpkin dish, were phenomenal - really delicious, nice presentation, interesting flavors, (5/5).
