Gracias Madre has two locations one in Los Angeles and one in San Francisco. They both have different vibes but both serve amazing vegan Mexican food. Their menus have some similarities in regards to some of the items served, for instance, I noticed the numerical bowls. I had the tres bowl back in LA which was amazing. Their menu is vegetarian and vegan friendly; some items are also gluten free.I arrived for lunch on a weekday and had no reservation. I was seated right away, thankfully--seating at the bar or communal tables. I wasn't super hungry but I wanted to make sure I was able to visit before I departed San Francisco. I'm looking at the menu and the chorizo Nachos stood out to me as I hadn't had nachos in ages. When my waiter came back around that is what I ordered with water as my beverage of choice. I'm thrilled to report that the tempeh chorizo nachos that were nothing short of delicious. I ate what I could as I was not super hungry. The nachos had black beans, guacamole, and cashew cheese which was wonderful. The menu comes from their organic farm in Pleasants Valley, CA and many of the items are seasonal. Next time, I have my eyes on the tamale dinner, the asparagus taco, and or the mango salad."Let's respond with grace even when others don't!" More...

As a must do Mexican vegan place I was dying to try it. It's a fairly large place in the mission surrounded by the traditional joints but the world has moved on from killing animals for pleasure - which has been my journey this year. I wanted to see how these guys blended the textures to an otherwise thoughtless process of meat on tacos etc. The quesadilla was excellent given the cashew crema and additions. Ok the taco side we got the jackfruit and mushroom with mole, I would say they are both different and can't be compared. I liked the fresh hot sauces with the chips. We had a new server so she didn't know much about the menu so one of the more familiar guys had to help out. More...

I am not vegan, but I love the food here and I never long for meat or dairy, even on hard to imitate dishes like nachos or carnitas . .. or carnitas nachos. It has inspired me to try new recipes at home, like cashew cheese (so easy). But at Gracias Madre, they have perfected vegan Mexican so it keeps me coming back. Try their sodas, too. The tamarind soda was amazing and worth the price. More...

Being from Miami, there are very few vegan restaurants, and good vegan cuisine is virtually non-existent. We chose gracias Madre as the meal for the final night of our vacation, and it was probably the best culinary experience we had in San Francisco. The food was fresh, flavorful, and allowed us to enjoy a variety of our favorite dishes. We were happy with the service, quality, and price. More...

I just love Gracias Madre! The best vegan Mexican food ever! Every time I'm back in SF I have to make a trip here. The happy hour is great - get here between 3-6pm (M-F) for $5 glasses of wine and a tasty menu :) now they have a full bar and have super tasty cocktails as well. Every time I come I have to get the fried cauliflower appetizer - the spicy sauce really makes it. Another must are the sweet potato flautas - who knew creamy sweet potato and creamy cashew cheese could go so well together! This time we also tried the special, a jackfruit torta. The sandwich was layered with guac, black beans, and so much yum.Portions are always huge, wine pours are heavy - you'll leave full and happy. The ambiance inside (and outside on the heated patio too) will leave you relaxed as well. Inside it's community seating but I love that about this place. More...

I can describe this place in two words: vegan deliciousness. It was heaven! The drinks are amazing - I recommend the Mexican hot chocolate with cayenne. The margaritas are excellent, and you can get a spicy version with jalapeños. The food is mouth wateringly good. Everything is good about this restaurant. The service is amazing. Our waiter, Allison, was so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. It is a staple in our family, and should be in everyone's. Do not leave without getting dessert! It is to die for! The flan is absolutely divine, as is the lime cheesecake. It is the epitome of vegan Mexican food. You have to go! More...

Wow. I was really blown away by how delicious this restaurant is. My best friend is vegan but doesn't really have any plant-based restaurants in her area so when I visited the Bay Area for thanksgiving I knew it would be cool to take her to a plant-based lunch in SF! We were in the Mission district already so this sounded like we could give this place a shot. She was really excited about the menu options and it was hard to choose an item since everything looked and sounded so yummy! Our server was good at explaining the menu and recommending her favorite dishes since I wanted to get everything. We ended up settling on Bowl Dos and the Tempeh Chorizo Torta (all their lunch tortas are made with Acme Bakery bread so I could not resist). Bowl Dos was hearty and the peanut sauce was something I didn't know I needed in a burrito bowl. The torta was probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in my entire life. The bread was flavorful and the combination of the chorizo, avocado, salsa, black beans, and cashew cream was out of this world. More...

This is the best VEGAN Mexican food in San Francisco. Here is what you should and shouldn't get at Gracias Madre.- Chimichanga / $15 / 10 out of 10: The Chimichanga is F****** FIRE! !! This is the only thing I ever order here. I heard the other dishes are ok, but if you want a fantastic meal this is what you need to order. I wouldn't order anything else here because this is the best wet burrito I've ever had.Overall: It can be a little pricy but you're not going to find any other vegan Mexican food like this place. It's definitely worth the money if you order the Chimichanga. You can thank me later.P.S. I only review establishments if they are vegan or have vegan options. More...

Mexican Food? The only slight resemblance of Mexico is the language of the sign above the bathroom that says "Baños." Even the font is American. There will be a wait to be seated at a table, however, they allow you to leave your cell phone number with them, and they text you when your table is ready--after which you have 10 minutes to meander back to claim your table. The wait staff is nice, though busy. The food is, obviously, vegan. And delicious. Large portions. Not too pricey for what you get. Mexican? Not at all. Thank you, Madre, for the delicous vegan food that is slightly picante, but not at all Mexican. I have been to this restaurant 4 times over the past 5 years, and each time it just gets better. I will be back! More...

Such a fun, vibrant place! We were seated quite quickly however the service to take our order was quite slow but the food arrived quickly once our order was placed. The grilled tofu was yummy!! The nachos and bowl dos was great. The enchilada were slightly less flavourful however still tasty. Overall, a great place for excellent vegan food, great casual ambience and we would definitely return :) More...

Visited Gracias Madre for brunch. Excellent service! Really enjoyed La Dama cocktails and the plantain French toast with maple 'butter'--the butter was fabulous. I practically ate it plain. As a non-vegan, the only thing I missed here was cream for my coffee. The only negative was that the music was really loud, making it difficult to talk if you're in a group. More...

The food here is always tasty and on point. It's vegan based and even with that, my wife still says it's some of the best Mexican she's ever had; which is saying a lot because she loves Mexican food. The seating arrangements can be communal style, so a party of 2 might get sat at a table for 6, which means other people may eventually get sat with you. Totally a good experience though! More...

My family was in town for a visit and some of us being newly vegan were so excited because the vegan restaurant options are so much larger than where we are from. I was surfing through Yelp, YouTube and google for recommendations for Vegan restaurants. I saw Gracias Madre come up a few times and we don't really have Mexican food vegan options as far as restaurants go so we had to try it. Let me tell you something. We have some good critiques in my family, especially of vegan food. We ordered two starters and an entree for everyone. When I tell that we practically licked our plates clean, you know it's real. I'm honestly happy everyone shared because it was all so good. Fresh local ingredients which is why the menu is seasonal but all this food really tastes like someone's grandma cooked it.I really would love a fully Mexican vegan restaurant in Sacramento so if Gracias Madre is ever looking fo expand, they could definitely come our way :).
