Esca what is the site of a recent dinner in advance of a day long board retreat, and we had a really nice meal there. From past experience, it's hard to keep everyone happy at a table of 12, however the servers really stepped up and were very attentive, never feeling us left on her own, or lacking a fresh drink. Starting with the appetizers the food was very tasty. We were all struck by one dish in particular, arguing whether or not it was ribbons of sweet potatoes or some other vegetable when we found out it was the Eggplant Chips! Drizzled in honey with a nice generous portion of shaved cheese, this was the hit of the table. Fried calamari and the cheese board were also very tasty with delicious sauces accompanying the nibbles.Since I'm always a sucker for a good scallop entrée, I wanted to go with the diver sea scallops, however the server informed me the butternut squash risotto with pancetta was actually mixed in, so it couldn't be done without the pancetta. I opted to go with a crispy risotto cake instead. Although the scallops did taste quite good, and they came prepared very nicely, the plate itself was rather plain. It almost felt like they just threw the scallops onto the plate with the risotto cake and some asparagus rather than taking the time to do something a little special. I get it, I changed the dish on the fly, but it felt like a little bit of effort would've gone a long way.All in all I would definitely go back to Esca on a future visit to Middletown, and based on the busyness of the restaurant, it's a very popular place for a nice meal. I Had lunch here yesterday for the first time with my cousin .......the food was amazing.  I try to stay gluten free so they happily customized my chicken francais dish. ...sooooo delicious!  My cousin had a steak that made her stop talking and eat...LOL.  We will definitely be back.  The staff is very accomodating and handsome too! Lovely atmosphere, pleasant waitstaff, food was ah-mazzing, had Arancini balls as app & so yummy! Had Esca Burger n was perfectly medium well done and so pretty! Sorry, didn't have any wine tho they had a bomb selection. It was a Monday and our server mentioned half price either bottles or glasses...Im pretty sure bottles. My friend had Gnocchi& broccoli rabe, gnocchi was delicious broccoli rabe was as bitter n gross as Ive always thought lol(I just cant). No dessert, but next time definitely! Also..if you ask for a booth they are HUGE n accommodate 6-8 people , as it was slow the hostess(very nice) was cool letting us sit wherever. We had our rehearsal dinner here, and we also come to the restaurant on a regular basis just for the food and wine. The food is always amazing and delicious. The wine selection is the best and top notch, if you enjoy wine.For our rehearsal dinner, my husband has a gluten allergy and the whole staff was so accommodating in making sure he had a delicious gluten free dinner. Our guests also were so pleased with the food and could not say enough about how good it was. I highly recommend this restaurant for any day of the week and for any celebration. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner served by a knowledgeable and friendly server. Esca is beautiful inside and the food is delicious! We stopped here for lunch in between lacrosse games with my Daughter. It was a great day so we sat on the patio. Usually, you get forgotten on the patio when you are the only people out there. But not here. The waiter was amazing. Made great suggestions and arrived back at the table just as you needed him. As for the food. Fantastic. My Daughter devoured her mussels.
